My thoughts on PBJ: it’s likely that the mismatch between his shoot mechanics and his %, and between his physique and his D effectiveness, are due to his emotional state in being coached by his dad. I feel that his qualities will unlock, as usual, when dipping into Dubs Reforge Method.

Has anyone actually seen PBJ play? I haven't. I've read all the negative commentary on the kid from people who maybe played some high school ball (maybe not) but I'm not sure how much faith to put into that. Is the worst case a 6'10" Looney with a jump shot? That's not a bad result for #28 in my opinion.

Steph-Klay-Wiggs-Dray-Wiseman

Poole-Moody-GP2-JFK-Looney

Rollins-DLee-PBJ-JTA-(15th Spot open)

two-way 1 Lester Q

two-way 2 I would like Trevion Williams from Purdue. Would really like a big on a two way.

Andre as a "Special Assignment" coach. Not all the rigors of an assistant coach, but around enough to have an impact, especially on the influx of youth. D Lee & JTA need to stay for continuity to balance out the youth.

Warriors save a few bucks by leaving 15th spot open, which could come in handy later in year in buyout market.

Major load management this year and push the minutes of the young guns. What you have to believe is the overall contributions of Wiseman-JFK-Moody giving you more by the end of the year than this year's Andre-OPJ-Beli (and minutes availability counts). There remains an open roster spot for one cagey veteran, but you don't need it to start the year. And maybe Andre comes out of retirement at the deadline for being able to play in the Offs.

That's how I am playing it.

It's crazy how quick the rationalization kicks in, I'm starting to hype myself up for Baldwin lol. I was really pretty low on him after all of our draft research. I think this really is a swing for the fences pick, hopefully predicated on some insider knowledge about his health. I think the biggest concern is how he'll end up as a defender, so if the Warriors know that his ankle is to blame for pretty much all his issues (athleticism, quickness, ...shooting?) then maybe there's a chance he'll end up a Kyle Anderson or at least a Cam Johnson level defender. If he ends up a Markkanen level defender he'll really have to shoot it to provide value.

That said, I love his length; 9'2" standing reach means he can play some center, I think that (if the shot comes around) with his handle, there will be some center matchups he'll be able to just completely play off the floor. The handle really is pretty impressive for a big guy, and of course his shot is what made people think he'd be a lotto pick.

One concern that isn't immediately wiped away by my ankle conspiracy is that his 74% FT% is pretty mediocre for a guy whose carrying skill is shooting.

Oh well! In Bob we trust! I'll keep repeating this mantra until we find out who this kid really is.

Do I have to be the guy that points out the fact that the PBJ pick was a little 'nutty'?

Is PBJ going to be OPJ with better feet?

The 21 and under Warriors and their wingspans:

Rollins: 6'10"

Kuminga: 6'11"

Baldwin: 6'11"

Moody: 7'1"

Santos: 7'1"

Wiseman: 7'5"

I realize that someone like Santos is not guaranteed to play a minute in the NBA but overall these guys are indicative of the organizational approach of #lengthinnumbers as far as what physical attributes are prized by the FO, the same way that Memphis likes strong-bodied physical types and OKC has that slenderman thing going on.

So far the win of the offseason seems to me Christian Wood to Dallas. Baller move by Dallas FO. Scares me.

Well, that was an interesting draft, to be sure. I liked each guy more the later the pick came. Santa Cruz Warriors gonna ball this year. Have to hand it to the FO, coming off a Chip and record payroll, the buy up in the second round then immediately add an undrafted player as a two-way. Whether or not anyone pans out, give credit for not sitting on their hands. It's the Warriors way, finding a way to turn a bunch of leftovers into a dinner party meal. Let Free Agency begin!

EXCELLENT draft pick by the Warriors!! I believe I'm seeing future greatness!!

(Note: I'm late posting this, laptop problems, meant to do it in 2009.)

Not sure how I feel about our draft picks - but I’m going to cali Classic so hopefully will get to see real time.

My real comment though is kind of considering the whole AAU/NCAA/NBA pipeline. My daughter is starting to play reasonably competitive soccer, and in the US soccer community, there is a lot of talk about how the club -> high school -> NCAA -> pro pipeline is inferior to the European soccer pipeline (which is dominated by clubs all the way through) because the focus is too much on winning and not enough on player development. Watching the NBA draft, I really worry about the same thing. It feels like 60 kids get a wager placed on them, some which will bust and some which will pay out. But I wonder if we had a stronger semi pro environment where each NBA team had a pretty big funnel with great coaching if we would end up with many more elite basketball players and really elevate the game. G league is a good start, but I wonder if it should go deeper and younger. I was watching some YouTube of U9 boys soccer, including Barcelona’s U9 team (LaLiga Promises), those kids were incredible, and in particular their fundamentals were so sound. I wonder what would happen to American basketball if most players got really sound fundamentals coaching from an early age.

Either way I will go cheer for our three new rooks in 2 weeks and hope our FO found us at least one keeper. If we can run it back with Steph, Klay, Dray, Wiggs, Looney, Poole, GP2, OPJ, Moody, Kuminga, Wise, and 1 rook I’m thrilled. Go dubs.

For the life of me, I honestly don't know what to think of PBJ. There's his potential, and there's his limitations. Sort of reminds me how I felt about Kuminga. Hope it turns out like that.
