I always felt confident about beating PHX in a WCF matchup, based on regular season results against them. And to see how DAL guards DOMINATED PHX in Game 7, it's difficult to change that opinion.

Clearly we need a mock up skit of hardee wearing his championship belt into the owners meeting… i apricot plays lacob, daniel plays himself (but maybe some outrageous , greased up, 80’s wwf outfit and jerrycurls) and duby plays some lawyery stats and graphs nerd who has just convinced the room that no luxury tax on your own drafted players will make everyone loads of money… and just then Daniel busts in, fog machine n all!

Before the season started I placed a small bet on us to win it all. Bear in mind this was the first bet I ever made in life! Why now? Remember when Tiger fell so low in the golf rankings no one thought he would ever win another Major, and then he did? I had an irrational/rational belief he would figure it out some way somehow (he had the blueprint down, the championship DNA, and just needed to get/stay healthy) and remember seeing the astronomical +odds he was getting at the time! I vowed if that situation ever happened again (A proven multi-winning GOAT Champion being doubted after a decline) I would put my money where my belief was. It's nice to have the receipts this time.

And Joe V gettin (good naturedly) punked by dbhq (again) is perfect (for some reason)

Comparing Klay to his contemporaries looks less good. He was pretty meh this year and even for a lot of the playoffs.

I have hope we will see further Klaybot activations this coming season though.

On team payroll and team friendly deals … Lacob/Myers are Silicon Valley guys. They come from a business culture that is very open. Given that NBA contracts are public, that only increases openness way beyond what is typical even for Silicon Valley tech companies.

So one way for them to approach this and try to get the guys to ‘play ball’ on team friendly contracts is to be even more open. Sit down with the whole team and open the books for all the Dubs’ revenue streams. Show them how much money comes in and make the case that it has to balance with how much goes out. Then ask them if they want to stay together, or tell them that the coaching staff believes that a particular set of players gives them the best chance to keep winning. Then lay out a salary structure (based on NBA comps) that keeps all the needed players and stays under budget.

This gives the players a shitload of power, control, and knowledge. It also sets them up to negotiate with each other which could get ugly. E.g. Dray saying to Klay something like ‘hey bro let’s each take $10mm less so these kids can make some bank’ or whatever. Admittedly it just takes one or two stubborn greedy people to blow the whole thing up. I know it’s hard to imagine how people who have made literally hundreds of millions of dollars could go to the mat for ten million more but greed and pride know no bounds.

In real SV businesses management gets people to take less cash by giving them a cut of ownership but I think that’s not allowed in the NBA.

Random aside: I'll be shocked if Steph ever shoots below 40% from 3 for a season again.

Wow, I didn't realize how close Dray and Bjelica were... sounded genuinely hurt he didn't come back

He also goes on to talk about Loon... major injuries at age 19 to almost derail his career and the mental toll that it can take on you. I never thought to draw the parallel to Wiseman.

“You gotta figure out different ways to get [the ball], so let me try and get my feet wet, go in there and rebound the ball,” Wiggins said of his playoff mindset. “And especially when we played small in the Memphis series and I had to rebound, I’m in there rebounding and I’m like, ‘This ain’t that hard! I can rebound!’ And from there I just kept with it. It helps us win, gives us more possessions, and I’m like, ‘I can do this.’ I’ll never average four rebounds again. I look back now like, ‘How?’ I wasn’t really thinking straight. I look back now, I don’t know how that was possible.” 4 hours ago – via Jack Winter @ Clutch Points. Is this for real?

Man Banchero's a beast. He is in another class in this SL game from the other players, including Smith. Can pass, has great shooting touch, tough defender. Eason is also fun.
