KD won 2 championships with us but my favorite Steph/KD moment is him passing it back to Steph for the ultimate Night Night against France instead of swinging it to Lebron

Kudos to KD for having a sense of the moment. He knew Steph was making history and, even as great as KD is, he was comfortable letting Steph shine.

I loved the intensity of all the old guard (KD, LeBron, and Steph) giving everything they had for the Gold.

I'm trying to understand who has to blink first. Kuminga or MDJ.

If Kuminga drags it long enough, would MDJ have to sign Horford and Melton and may be a few others? Thereby limiting how much they can match. And then some other team can swoop in with a large enough offer that MDJ cannot match, because of the apron hard limit.

Is it plausible that there is some team capable of creating that cap space so late in the game?

Brooklyn conceivably could renounce Thomas and Beckmann and offer JK a contract starting at $22m in 25/26 season, and they have a bunch of little contracts they could try to send off to create a little more space. But if they sign Thomas, there’s basically nobody who can create cap space. So Thomas is kinda the pressure point for all these guys, in a way.

Don't want Giddey on the team, but mathematically, it could (sort of, maybe) work if Giddey was willing to take a discount and sign for $22.5 mil with a 15% trade kicker (which would push the AAV over $25 mil) and JK got $24-25 mil. The Warriors would have to give up Gui or TJD, though. 2 possible (but unlikely), similar trades

Trade 1 (JK to Sac):

Sac: JK ($24 mil), Julian Phillips

GSW: Giddey (22.5)

Bulls: Anfernee Simons, TDJ, Monk

Celtics: Vuc, Dalen Terry

Trade 2 (JK to Bulls):

Bulls: JK (25 mil), Monk

GSW: Giddey (22.5)

Sac: Vuc, TJD, Julian Phillips

Both would hard-cap us at the 1st apron, but if we made the trade, it would mean that MDJ probably valued Giddey over a buy-out

If we trade TJD, even with Horford coming in, we could be short on bigs who can play the 5 effectively. We'd have QP but he's still got to prove he can play heavy minutes, including in a playoffs. Horford is at an age where we can assume he will need nights off and not play too many minutes, at least during the regular season. Part of Kerr's plan is to not play Dray at the 5 this season, although I assume he will in a pinch, and all bets are off in the playoffs. So I think TJD stays unless we get another 5 somewhere.

We’ve all watched it on loop countless times (or is that just me?) but my favorite part of the Olympics run was getting to see all of the people who didn’t get Steph before suddenly “getting it” and sharing in the unparalleled joy that is Steph Curry. Lots of that in the comments section here:

So how would we rank the four UFA — Grimey, Giddey, Cam Thomas, and Kuminga — in terms of whom we would most want on the Warriors?

They’re so close that I’m honestly not sure how I’d rank ‘em. Can I get Cam’s or Grimes’s perimeter game with Giddey’s playmaking/passing and head height and Kuminga’s athleticism, wingspan, and finishing?

OK this one is going to haunt a few of you:

4 active players have a “career quadruple double”, i.e. career highs >= 10 in at least 4/5 major stat categories.

I will release 1 correct answer every hour that there has not been correct guess.

1) Draymond - 32/20/19/10 steals = 10pts to Abaddon

2) Wemby - 50/23/11/10 blocks = 10pts to vignette17

3) Anthony Davis - 59/26/11/10 blocks

4) T.J. McConnell - 30/10/17/10 steals

Expand full comment
fzwinter's avatar

Of course, there are four players who have achieved a quadruple double in a single game (David Robinson, Alvin Robertson, Nate Thurmond, and Hakeen Olajuwon). The last time it happened was 1994. I'd expect Wemby to join that list sometime in the next couple of years.

If you add turnovers as a category, there have been 16 quadruple-hobbles, with more than half coming from Westbrook (6) and Harden (3). Westbrook had one four years ago with this stat line: 20 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists, 10 turnovers, and 2 technical fouls. The true Westbrook Experience!

Expand full comment
Chasing Ring5 💍's avatar

Special Mention: On February 18th, 1985, Larry Bird recorded a statline of 30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 9 steals in only three quarters - a single steal away from a quadruple double! When asked if he wanted to re-enter in the fourth quarter, Bird said "I already did enough damage" and sat out.

How many active players have career highs of at least 20 in the three major categories? Dray is so close but one assist short. I'm too lazy to check anyone other than Jokic, but he's sporting a 61/27/22 line.

Edit: I also checked LeBron, but he's one assist short as well.

Edit: I had forgotten than Jokic did the 20+/20+/20+ in a single game. As did Russ. And Wilt.
