Iggy was joking about nigeria, that he was trying to steal like those on line bandits from nigeria

About rookie initiation (https://youtu.be/6kSY4wcYdm8):

- I didn’t get clearly who’s the blonde girl. Apart from being the only decent singer, is she a psychologist trainer?

- it’s funny how you US people always show the same legendary repulsion for basic geography (so that JFK now appears to come from Nigeria.). After all, the Pope lives in Madrid, doesn’t he?

Expand full comment

I'm pretty sure Andre said something about Nigeria and in the same sentence said "this guy is from the Congo, though." Did you guys not hear that... did I imagine it?

Also, the blonde girl got introduced as "manager of PT," so I'm guessing Physical Therapy, but actually I have no idea.

I think you mean “ignorance” rather than “repulsion”. And yes, American geographical knowledge is generally poor; to be fair, most people don’t even know most states, let alone countries on other continents.

Go, teen! Sporcle is probably how, am I right? I've binge-geographied with that site, it's great. I can do the countries but I always thought capitals were extra-pointless. Still, impressive teen.

I just want to point out that if Poole can sustain anything close to this level, we’re going to be ok for any games Steph misses. If Steph misses 10 games, I can easily see it only hurting 2 games in the loss column with Poole playing like this instead of 5.

Expand full comment

JP3 at “this level” is a 30+ ppg player with +50 fg% & +40% 3fg%. So, he’s an All-NBA. He’s not going to continue at “this level” obviously. But its not at all far-fetched to see him as a 20 ppg guy at this point. It’s also not far-fetched to see him as a 25 ppg guy in a few years given his combination of hard work and talent. Which is why there’s no way I’m trading him.

Which is why I wrote “anything close to this level”… if he sustains “this level” we gonna be 1 seed and prohibitive championship favorite.

Best realistic Poole comp is Jamal Murray. 3 level scorer, really really good shooter, can self-crate and is also a pretty pretty good off-ball scorer. Murray's self-creation abilities and tough shot-making skills are much more advanced but I reckon Poole's a better passer and might be better off-ball.

Yes, Daniel, disturbing trends in terms of big man defense. This is what I've been saying this off season. What are the Warriors going to do about it? Hoping that JW is our answer seems like a pipe dream right now. Are they really more concerned about a backup PG than another big guy who can help protect the basket? We've got a ton of guards who can go combo off the bench. Thinking that Kuminga can play in the paint is really asking for a lot. This is our achilles heel and they have to heal it or teams will be focusing on this big time. What do you think?

With Galloway gone, Avery Bradley hanging on by a hair, GP2, even in a wheelchair, should get the job. Let them focus on a big guy. They must have some players they are looking at. Bjelica is not the answer for Defense. He's a cunning shooter and passer whose body is not built for banging. No muscle. Momma's boy.

I agree Warriors need a big guy who can defend but I don't know who's available out there that would be worth it more than Looney and Wiseman, with all their flaws. I'm willing to trade Mulder for Giannis if Bucks are open to it.

I'm from eastern europe and I know many Serbs. They are some of the toughest, hardest people in the world, which is not at all surprising if you know anything about modern history in the former Yugoslav states and the balkans.

I've met plenty of Serbs and Bosniaks. My quip of soft serb was a play on soft serve ice cream and has nothing to do with ethnicity or race. Bjelica is a soft player. Maybe you can tone down your rhetoric and stop being an asshole.

With AD in the mix, the Lakers aren't going to be an easy out for us this season. That's quite a few very big bodies who can take turns cleaning the glass and catching lobs from Rondo and James. Feels like our best bet may be to fight 2's with 3's, but that's also a strategy that can go the wrong way in a hurry with some unlucky bounces. I don't see how Westbrook fits in though, since his main skills are rebounding (a bit redundant with Howard or DAJ on the floor) and "runaway train → layup or kickout" (a bit redundant with LBJ's traditional skillset), and the Lakers are kind of hurting for good catch-and-shoot guys (moreso with Ariza & AD injured). I foresee a lot of missed assist opportunities there.

Overall, that puts us in a bit of a weird position. I think we match up better with most of the other teams in the West, and I can also see any number of other Western-conference threats like Utah or Portland beating LA in a playoff series. So maybe the path is easier for us if someone else knocks the Lakers out before we get to them.

But I guess first thing's first, gotta make the playoffs. And I like our chances of that very much.

-GP2 didn’t really shoot the 3 ball that much

-porter missed like two shots the whole scrimmage

-looney looked like he just got out of bed

-chase center has a really cool exterior but doesn’t feel like the home of the warriors

to me

-moody looked like he belonged

I'm sad that JFK isn't getting his chance this week. He coulda been on the court during that second half with Moody instead of Galloway or Bell. He coulda been bangin' with Howard, and driving past him, then kicking out to #4. We could be talking about how both the rooks need more playing time in the rotation. But alas, the injury bug struck again.

In search of a Poole comp? Well, we're looking for a guy who is a great shot, keeps the ball moving in the Warriors offense, willing passer, can catch and shoot, create off the dribble or finish at the rim, but pretty short and not that athletic, so defense will be a challenge.

Ladies and gswdawgs: Stephen Effin' Curry.

HOLD ON A SEC. I didn't say he was *as good* as Steph. No one ever is. This is a comp. A particular type. He's not a Steph clone, he's just in that lane. But if you're thinking he'll be due max money it'll be because he's become elite. And what elite player would you compare him to? He's not junior Giannis, he's not junior Kawhi, he's not junior Durant, LeBron, Tatum. He's not junior Klay because Klay's much more catch and shoot and much better on defense. Steph, or maybe Lillard.

I don't think this is by accident. Poole gets drafted by GS as a hybrid G with handles and 3 pt shooting. Who is he gonna model his game after? Who is he gonna watch tape of and study? Who is he gonna ask for advice from?

Thank you for saying what I was thinking.

Expand full comment

Someone yesterday said a hybrid of Steph and Jamal Murray. I like that one a lot.

Expand full comment

Murray is a great player but his style is a bit different. Heavy emphasis on creativity, off balance shooting, unexpected angles. Also the Denver offense relies more on pick and roll, esp. w/ Jokic.

(By the way I hate the nickname "Joker." He's not much of a joker, and the "J" in Jokic is pronounced like a "Y." The whole thing feels a tad ignorant, like "We saw some letters in your last name that look to our Amurrican eyes like the word 'Joker' so we're going with that.")

Pointless Digression TM

Expand full comment

I guess we should rename him Yoker... He yokes the team along with him to excellence.

Expand full comment

That works better, thanks.

Expand full comment

But can we spell it Joker?

Expand full comment

“Heavy emphasis on creativity, off balance shooting, unexpected angles.” I think that, along with the speed changes and hesitations, are the exact things that draws the comparison. Like Murray, Poole has a weird way of moving that seems to make him like an awkward guy to cover. His using screens, moving without the ball and floater is clearly modeled after Curry.

Expand full comment

Murray has a lot of Curry to his game also, love watching him play. Feel like he's a bit bulkier than Curry/Poole though.

Expand full comment

He actually might be the best comparison, which is wild. Poole's passing separates him from a lot of microwave scorers and his development as an off ball threat and movement shooter separate him even more.

Somehow, somewhere minutes must be found for Moses Moody with the starters

Expand full comment

If the regular rotation guard/wing minutes are going to Steph, Klay, Poole, Wiggins and OPJ, who are you going to reduce to find Moody minutes?

Expand full comment

We don't really have to drive off this bridge until we come to it (Klay's return). Meanwhile play Moody in garbage time and if he plays his way into more minutes, give him what he earns. If others (Lee for instance) sit more, fine, it's because Moody is helping us win. He can play with OPJ or Wiggs, I don't think that's a conflict.

Expand full comment

Lee is getting minutes, opj will be at the 4

Expand full comment

That still leaves Steph, Poole, Klay and Wiggins, with Lee’s minutes likely fewer and more sporadic. This is not to mention Iggy’s minutes.

I’m still not sure who Moody is going to supplant at this point in his development.

Expand full comment

Klay is going to be on limited minutes for a while, moody will get garbage time and g league minutes until he can surpass iggy

Expand full comment

Until Klay gets back, I can see Moody getting more than garbage time. And it's not that he needs to beat out Iguodala, but more like Bradley/GP2.

Basically, with Poole looking the way he does, do the Warriors really need a defensive guard like Bradley or GP2?

Why not just run a true wing next to Poole? They already got a wing with some handles that can't shoot in Iguodala.

Like when they sub out Poole in the 1st quarter, they can run some Moody next to Steph/Dray a little bit.

Then for the 2ndf quarter non-Curry lineup, run like a Poole-Lee-Andre-OPJ-Bjelica lineup.

Or with Wiseman, like a Poole-Lee-OPJ-JTA-Wiseman lineup.

Expand full comment

This is also a good argument for leaving that 15th roster spot open or using it for a true big. Just saying.

Moody knocking down 3’s is great, but he looked real confident and smooth with his ball handling and passing too

Expand full comment

He had some really solid defensive possessions in what passes for crunch time in preseason as well, including a pretty clutch (and clearly correct) charge drawn. As long as he can continue to do that while knocking down shots at an efficient rate, he'll be playing real minutes sooner rather than later. (At this rate he'll be "ready" long before Wiseman.)

Expand full comment

That pass to Bell was one of the best moments of the game.

Expand full comment

Gonna give Bell a shoutout for that play for finding Moody in the corner from the top of the arc as well (and generally doing a lot of Warrior Big Man things). He may not make the roster and that pass may seem simple but have we seen anything resembling that from AB yet?

Expand full comment

AB has kept the ball moving to my eye. Not a great shooter, tries hard on defense more that actually starting in front of people… and has Steph support. He’s prob getting the spot.

Expand full comment

Since we’re future-fretting salaries, one thing I’m not sure I’ve seen discussed is OPJ and Bjelly and would love to hear from someone with more cap knowledge than my micro-brain.

Assuming they contribute like they have been and are keepers after their vet mins are up this season, are the only options for keep one/both more vet mins or TPMLE, or are there any “rights” to go bigger to keep them?

Expand full comment

OPJ is gone if he stays healthy and plays like he has in preseason, he came here to rehab his value. I could see Bjelica staying though, he's at the age where it starts to make sense.

Expand full comment

Both guys would be in the same financial situation as Bazemore. Could do non-Bird rights or offer the TPMLE.

Expand full comment

Either of following:

- Non-bird : 120% of current salary

- TPMLE or part of it

- Another year of Vet min: Lacob would prefer this since part of salary (upto two year vet-min salary) is paid by league and more importantly, luxury tax applies only to the remaining amount (that team pays). That may end up saving Lacob total up to $9m+ (or probably more). But who is counting. And that is the dilemma of 15 spot too for Lacob.

Correction: $5M+
