OT: Bracket busted so bad on day one of the NCAA Tournament that I can switch from rooting for the teams I picked to routing against them - going for the worst bracket possible. Sometimes you just want to see the world burn.

Don't know if there are any Raiders/football fans in here but what a crazy offseason so far!

Expand full comment

Not a Raiders fan but Adams is the real deal and a terrific pick up.

Expand full comment

If Poole will be taking over much of Steph’s role, will he also get all the grabbing/double teaming that Steph usually sees? Can he handle it, I wonder?

Expand full comment

If guys like Klay, Wiggins, OPJ and the kids make their shots. defenses will more straight up.

Expand full comment

That's what I think. They'll start straight up, but if someone gets hot, then they may double.

Just watching the highlights of Wiseman in Santa Cruz. I know it's the gleague but he is looking pretty good. Is it time to have him playing with us considering Steph's injury? Can it really hurt if we try? He looks physically ready and if he has a 15-20 minute restriction, doesn't sound so unreasonable to me. Without Steph, we are going to struggle and Draymond certainly knows how to get the most out of JW.

Expand full comment

Put him into the starting lineup, he’s ready! Maybe he can even get some minutes in at point, imagine how well he can see over the D!

one step at a time.................

Seems like an excellent time to give the Poole/Wiseman PnR a go and see how it does.

Expand full comment

Yea idk it doesn't make sense why he wouldn't play against the spurs tbh

Expand full comment

Probably trying to get him a little more confidence before getting back on the big stage. From what I've seen, he's still pretty lost out there.

Expand full comment

Dray would help direct him

It's just, what is one more g league game gonna do

Expand full comment

Possibly help get him get his wind back so he can free up brain space for execution

Ot: something I’ve always liked about the atmosphere here (as it’s traveled from site to site) is that there’s a general concern for players/people and how sucky it is to see someone get hurt. Over at sbnation Celtics site, there’s just zero concern of “hate to see a player go down”, just shitty tone. Saying a little toast to the humanity and non toxicity of dnhq

Just bought Derek Jeter jersey after Marcus Smart dive to show some hate to Beantown :-)

The tone here is different than in a LOT of sports conversations. On FB, I'll occasionally comment on an article or something and so-called Warrior fans are just ripping everyone and everything. I've had people take me on when I /agreed/ with them...

Maybe we can make a deal with Putin to go after Boston in exchange for Ukraine?

Expand full comment

Hey now... let's not wish Putin on Boston. Besides, if you think Beantown has crazy mean sports fans, try Philadelphia fans sometime.

Maybe we can get a two for one deal.

Well a lot of FB is like that, regardless of the topic. Key Question: what is the age of most of those FB respondents? On BR many in Warriors community are between 12 and 24 years old.😀

Expand full comment

In their BR community they are advocating for more fighting in the NBA. I thought that version of the Celtics went out awhile ago.

Expand full comment

Note to Celtic BR community: Boxing and basketball both start with "b" but one is about fighting and the other is not. If you want fighting, watch boxing (or MMA or some such thing).

Nirav Pandya analyzing Steph’s injury with Grant Liffman on DubsTalk https://youtu.be/V6cfnjhuBpY

This brief discussion made me feel a lot less worried about the situation

Expand full comment

I'm just hoping since it is his foot, it won't be a lingering issue when he returns. Especially with going right into the playoffs. Was looking forward to a late season run for him to lock up 1st team and finally get everyone on the court together, but Smart happened. : Sighs :

That’s not Dr. Pandya, that’s someone in an Adam Silver mask.

I mean all ankle sprains involve sprained ligaments. The fact that he had to get an MRI for this and is now seeing a specialist is concerning. Though given the warriors history with divulging accurate, not vague info about injuries who knows

Expand full comment

I believe it's significant that it's a "foot sprain", rather than "ankle sprain". There is a difference.

Expand full comment

Let's look on the bright side. This essentially eliminates the change of Steph suffering a major (basketball related) injury prior to the playoffs!

Expand full comment

Another upside, tickets may become cheaper so some of us can actually afford to go to a game and not sit in the rafters. The games of the 2019/2020 season were actually affordable/enjoyable because one had such low expectations.

I'm not a Fitz and Buike fan, and I'm a huge Barnett fan. But JB and BD? And the author's solution to having no play-by-play person is "no worries" or "bring in Igoudala"? Please. And no women get mentioned as possibilities. Remind me, what century is this?

I like Breen, Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy. No complaints, really. This makes me public enemy number one around here but what's even worse is I like Fitz and Buike.

Expand full comment

My guilty pleasure is that I enjoy listening to Fitz and Kelenna broadcast the Warriors. I don't care that they're homers; I am too. I find Fitz boorish and Azubuike a bit thin compared to Jim Barnett, but I tend to like them better than the announcers of other teams or national broadcasters who know NOTHING about the Ws.

Expand full comment

Knowing about the Warriors is definitely good.

Expand full comment

Agreed except even though Barnett is knowledgeable, he's got a boring manner. That's not what I'm looking for in a broadcaster.

Expand full comment

Okay, that's crossing a line. Barnett was/is great and a lot of what I like in a broadcaster -- knowledgeable, good humored, not full of himself.

Expand full comment

I'm sorry but if you prefer Fitz over Barnett... he literally says the same 5 things on repeat. His "manner" might be less boring but there is ZERO substance just clichés and terrible 9999th time jokes non-stop. It's so bad, like so so so bad

Expand full comment

Oh no, you have way too much competition to be public enemy number 1🦠🦠🦠

Roye and Barnett are fantastic. I don't know who would make a good TV play-by-play person though. Maybe steal Kate Scott.

I think it’s hard listening to the same folks 82 games a year, and for the vast majority you get sick of their schtick. This would include most of the people mentioned below were we listening to them every game. (They also have the benefit of not announcing the same team every game which naturally breaks things up).

There are a few exceptions that break the rule, a la Jim Barnett.

In general, I think most suck (eg. tangents, too much opinion) but I don't really care much. I feel like I end up tuning them all out. Except the guy doing the Agua Caliente games... definitely don't hire him. Mr. Downtown Ontario... Slamma Jamma...

Expand full comment

The tangents and Fitzgerald’s obnoxious personality are why I have to turn the sound off most of the games they called. Otherwise I use TNT, ESPN, ABC, NBA TV or whoever. Sometimes it’s possible/fun to watch replays on NBA full HD and hear announcers from other cities. Often refreshing.

The tangents is why I watch a lot of games nearly muted.

If Poole can continue playing well while Curry is out for the rest of the regular season, I can see the Warriors going at least .500 or better for the final 12 games of the season.

Expand full comment

All very nice... but Kyrie does get way more attention. I do really hope and expect that Jordan can learn to deal with the level of attention he's about to see. He has had some success when Steph's rested.

Expand full comment

The upcoming Spurs game is a good test to see what he is capable of. The last time the Warriors faced the Spurs, they didn't have their big 3, Wiggins, and other players and managed to make a 4th quarter comeback to win the game. Poole scored 31 points but was inefficient (9/24 FGs, 4/13 threes, 9/9 FTs). It was Looney (5/8 FGs, 2/2 FTs), Lee (7/15 FGs, 5/10 threes, 2/2 FTs), Moody (6/12 FGs, 6/10 threes), and Kuminga (8/15 FGs, 2/6 threes, 1/1 FT) who shot more efficiently than Poole in that game.

Yeah, and it was in the middle of Poole's weird funk slump. I fully expect him to perform better.

Kyrie gets to only play half the games (and still get paid his entire salary). That has to be accounted for, he’s always fresh/rested.
