The Lakers are waiving wing shooter Matt Ryan, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Ryan impressed in stint with L.A., shooting 38.2 percent from 3, including a clutch shot in win over Pelicans in November. The move opens up a roster spot for Lakers ahead of Dec. 15 trade date.

Alex Caruso and Andre Drummond for Wiseman and DDV. I would love to see a Caruso-Poole back court and Drummond would be 2 years of insurance as an emergency big. I can't count the reasons why the Warriors wouldn't do this. But the list of bad trades in the media is very underwhelming at this point and I like having something to get frothy about.

I thought the Phoenix game was an exciting one. Seeing the Warriors come back from a large double digit deficit has to give the team some confidence. We've seen this video endless times. Yes, we can come back.

OTOH, we've also seen another video endless times. That's the one where the starters forgot how to shoot and can't hit the side of a barn. When one of our shooters has this problem, it's not so bad because we usually have the fire power to make up for it. But when all 3 shooters stumble out of the gate especially after a game that we'd won mightily the day or two before, it makes me think 'why is this happening?' Our consistency from our 'core' is really being tested this year. Curry we can give a pass to as it is rare that he is not helping in some other area while he waits for his touch to be restored. With Klay and Wiggs, a slow start is something I've seen way too much of. It's been Klay's MO this season and it had been something that lingered in Wiggins from the past as well but has been more or less remedied while being on the Warriors. What is it with Klay? If this team is going to go deep into the playoffs, Klay must get through these times. lt almost feels like he is insecure and wants to be seen as someone as heroic as Steph.

Poole, I have no feelings of insecurity from. He just needs to focus and execute no matter what rotation he is playing in as it looks like Kerr will not start him as long as Klay can play.

Phoenix looks to be as consistent as possible. That team just continues to win, with or without Paul. DLee is doing quite well there contributing off the bench. Comparing him with DDV, we lost a better player, I feel. That team deserves to be where they are. I'm impressed with them. Ayton is exactly the kind of player that we would love to have but we won't pursue talented big guys with an offensive game.

Watched video on LTM: congrats to the officials for flash, quick, correct call in an enormously emotional challenging situation. Wow.

Just watched Steph's "travel" again in super slow mo... counted 3 frames between when one foot came down and the other. Giving the refs the benefit of the doubt and saying it's 30fps that's ~100ms, which is about the time it takes to double click a mouse, also, google's threshold for user interactions that "feel instantaneous" (https://twitter.com/karanganesan/status/1185479988759293953), and a hair slower than the latency on a phone call from SF to NY.

This makes me wonder if there's ever been a jump stop in the history of basketball where both feet actually landed at exactly the same time, and what the NBA's position is on the smallest number of acceptable milliseconds between feet landing for a legal jump stop.

The Warriors preach verticality like a Viagra sales rep. But there are two stages to verticality. The first is what we see Moody and Wiseman doing. Put your hands straight up and backpedal from the free throw line. They go all in on being vertical just to show they can stay vertical without fouling. The downside is that they come out on the losing end of a lot of these defensive plays. On multiple occasions I have seen Moody track a player from the free throw line with his hands straight up. By the time the driver reaches the restricted area, he has a very good idea how to get the ball in the basket because Moody has been holding his arms up like a pair of goal posts to a field goal kicker. As for Wiseman, two hands up is his way of saying, "Great shot, buddy. Can't believe you scored over me." Moody and Wiseman are still in the first grade phase of this process. They are spelling out letters, not making words. On the other hand, JK seems to have progressed. You don't go vertical until you have to. Wait, then unleash it at the point of contact with the opponent. And I am seeing this with JK. Now its time for Moody and Wiseman. You don't go vertical until you have to, boys. In other words, don't take Viagra unless you have a date. Otherwise, its gonna be a long hard night on the bench. (Damn, I'm gonna get murdered for this. Oh well, won't be the last time I go vertical for a laugh.)

For a fan who’s been waiting Curry’s entire career for officiating to finally acknowledge and enshrine his freedom to relocate without the ball anywhere in the front court he chooses without being mugged this new focus on his footwork rather than a defender’s scratch and grab has me just a touch bemused.

Wolves-Grizzlies is a close game. Both teams aren't shooting well, probably due to defense, but wow. Grizzlies are getting a lot of FTs.

Grizzlies: 18/30 FTs

Wolves: 11/15 FTs

Moody-Poole Splits. By splits I don't mean anything about time on the floor. I'm talking about the distance between their feet, specifically Poole on offense and Moody on defense. Poole slips a lot, kind of like he hanging out at a public swimming pool. That's what happens when the angle of your leg to the floor becomes more acute. You lesson the contact of the sole of your shoe to the court as you ride the inside edge of your sneaker, and there is more force exerted on a smaller area in contact with said court. Ergo, slippage. Also, Poole loses lateral force when he gets into these deep wide stances. Hard to move left or right when you are in a stretch pose. Poole's advantage is quickness and misdirection. His most potent move is a 'stall' followed by a quick burst downhill angle with a throw-ahead dribble and this isn't achieved from a downward cat yoga pose.

Conversely, Moody, when defending top of the key, will extend his arms and legs as if to say, "None shall pass! My arms and legs are so long, you cannot get by me." Again, the wide stance limits his lateral quickness. The further your feet are apart, the harder it is to swivel your hips, and this will slow your reaction time to players driving downhill. I heard an quote from Draymond once, he was talking about his defensive stance, and he said he likes to keep one foot in front of the other, something I had never heard before. It didn't make sense at first, but his reasoning was that it allowed him to react to the ball handler faster. Say a ball handler is right handed and you want to deter him from going right. If I am the defender and my right foot is in front of my left, my hips are pre-loaded to the opponents strong side. If the ball handler goes left, my first reaction is one long backup step with my right foot and I am in line with the drive. Anyway, I can't recall where or when I heard that from Dray, but I thought it was fascinating.

So, kids. Stretch BEFORE the game, not during it. It will do you better.

Gulliver's Traveling Calls.

I am okay with the league making adjustments to rules and officiating. But you don't unleash it 10 games into a season. You start in Summer league games and pre-season. You give every team and player foreknowledge and time to make adjustments BEFORE THE F-ing SEASON STARTS!!!! I 100% understand and agree with the changes the NBA wants to make. The offensive player cannot be free to do anything. I get it. But the way they did it is wrong. One season. One set of rules from beginning to end. I understand that they may stress certain calls and we may see periods throughout the year with an emphasis on certain calls. But that is not the same as what is happening now with carries and traveling.

On the plus side, these changes, though killing him now, should make Poole a better player. He will have to refine his handle and this should make him more decisive and explosive. This will limit his wide side to side movements that are generally empty and force him into quicker downhill angles where he is lethal. Sucks now. Don't like the way they did it. But there is a payoff.

Best loss of the year. If you don't think so, look at the game through Doncic's eyes. (btw, try to say that 3 times fast!) I record a 40 pt triple double. I actually made multiple good defensive plays throughout the game. Curry, Klay and Wiggs sucked. We had a 17 pt lead and won by 3 at home. My team sucks.

Having watched the rest of the game, I have to say the Warriors got a ton of calls down the stretch in the fourth quarter, and were allowed to play physical defense too. The Mavs had just as much to be frustrated by that game (I did think Luca got some weird FTs in the first half, but then not much at all in the second half.)

It was just one of those weirdly officiated games imo. Warriors seem to have sat through several of those early this year. I do question the general take "that was clear traveling" on that last play, when any take worth its salt should be analyzing what is normally counted as a jump stop in the NBA, and not "is it traveling if you don't count that hop as a jump stop," which is a clear case of begging the question.

Kuminga played monster defense.

Bol Bol: legit NBA player coming into his own or has fatal flaws and will never be a rotational player on a good team. After being buried on the bench by Malone on the Nuggets he’s getting PT for some shitty East team (i can’t distinguish one from the next) and is starting to show some signs. Thoughts?
