At the risk of stating the obvious: The starting lineup, which famously had the best +/- over the last two years, was, with Draymond and Looney, also famously testing the limits of how many non-shooters/non-scorers you can get away with. Now, with Wiggins slumping severely, and Klay on reduced volume, they've hit a tipping point and suddenly there's nowhere near enough shooting. It looks like the skeleton crew that was slogging its way through the 2019 Finals.

Not sure what, if anything, they can do about it for now, other than hope Wiggins and Paul come around. I'd certainly like to see Moses Moody get more run. The options are limited because, while the team is really deep overall, it's not that deep in shooters. Shooting is at such a premium league-wide, but it's even harder to find for the W's because the kinds of stand-in-the-corner 3pt specialists other teams rely on just don't tend to work in our system.

If it's correct, then more Moody and Kuminga and Saric may have to be the answer.

With 9 games in and Wemby averaging 24 ppg/10 rpg/3 bpg on a 56 TS% per 36, I'm starting to think my prediction that he'd be a borderline MVP player by the end of his rookie year is not so much of a hot take.

Expand full comment

Any individual person's take on Wembanayma, no matter how ambitious, cannot possibly be hot. I speak as someone who has tried. Even if I say he will win the next ten MVPs, I'm not sure there's that much hot to the take. Sigh. I love being original.

Yeah, I'm talking about an MVP level player (aka Superstar). Not whether Wemby will actually win MVP.

Is there a way for me to view the technical foul sequences? You can see the second one briefly in the game highlights, but there's not enough to give me a sense of what actually happened.

At the risk of making a Twitter comment, between last night's ejection and the one of Giannis the other day, it is time to revoke the 2 technicals=automatic ejection rule. Bad officiating has cost us two games in a row.

We played so bad that even CP caught the TO bug

CoJo too, he comes in and immediately jumps in the air with no plan, TO. Glad to see the Warriors team culture is so strong that the new guys pick it up right away.

Came home very late last night to watch. I ff thru FTs and TOs and still felt like I wasted my time. What an awful game. I was sure the first game back would be a beauty - but what a stinker.

Steals: 13-5

Turnovers: 10-20

Points in paint: 50-34

Except the third quarter, just hard to watch. But, it never seemed like the Warrior’s best isn’t better than the Cav’s best. Continuing now to head scratch why we’re not seeing the best from our starting five. Tonight’s game seems important.

It was one of the least enjoyable games I’ve watched in quite a while.

As soon as Wiggins gets back to being Wiggins, this team is going to be really difficult to beat. It's a bizarre problem to have because Wiggins was probably the player that should have had the fewest question marks going into this season, but they don't have a fallback plan for Wiggins playing like this so I don't really think there are any moves to make except trust he'll get back to being good. Once he's good, everything will click and they'll start piling up wins. It's a sign of how good the team is that they are 6-4 with him playing like this tbh.

Also though, having someone else who could score the ball like an Eric Gordon could have helped them out quite a bit in these first ten games. That's the one area I'd still look to improve the roster on, whether with the 15th spot, Cory Joseph's spot, or through trade.

So, what point in the schedule would you say that this team's identity is set, and we can understand what their ceiling is?

We're 10 games in now.

Personally, if we're still scuffling with good teams in another 10 to (at most) 15 games, I think I'll be ready to lower expectations. We have a (very) favorable schedule, Draymond's conditioning level should be up now, or soon. Wiggins issues should either be resolved, or Kerr should have made a decision to tweak the lineups by then.

If we aren't making a push now, then I would begin to have doubts that we are more than a middling team (say second/third tier contender). And, that's not to say we won't improve the rest of the season ... I know we will. But, so will other teams.

General statistical consensus is 20 games or so…

In this case, I think that kind of works. Last year, because we were expecting such a huge growth curve from the young players (that did not materialize), I was expecting it to take a little longer (1/2 a season, maybe).

This year, because we have a veteran group, I think it probably will gel soon, or possibly just be less than we had hoped.

Expand full comment

The youngsters had only 10 games and then panic set in. This year looks better but the starters are inconsistent at best. Key top players (read: Klay & Poole) were inconsistent at the start last year and Kerr responded by benching the young guns after 10 games. So if it keeps up like this, will Kerr again bench the young guns and their younger sibs? Or will he bench the top players who are being outplayed by their understudies?

Annoying loss but we’ll be feeling better when the Dubs figure things out.

Just be glad you’re not a Portland fan, with half your rotation (Simons, Brogdon, Williams and Scoot Henderson) out with injuries. A bad team just became a non-team.

I came here to have some morning ref hate with you all. This is beyond WTF, that was a preposterous sequence of terrible decisions. Bleccchhh.

That's the one.

Or maybe: pa gem ski (not really different)

Or if we're being strictly phonetic about it: /pəˈdʒem.ski:/ — with the first vowel sound just the standard "schwa" ("ə") we use in English for most unstressed vowels.

I believe that's correct. Which in nonphenetic pronounciation comes out to "puhjemski"

Agree, that high lay up off the board over Allen (Mobley? Someone tall) was a shot people were saying he wouldn't be able to make in the NBA because defenders are too quick and tall.

Are we back to Draymond being Draymond? He needs more attention than a tired 5 year old. And missing the Denver game for "personal" reasons? Only ten games in but tonight against MN kinda important (old and small against young and tall). Back to Back ugly? Let us pray.
