Thanks DubNation and all of those who partake in Dubs fandom for adding so much fun content to the long 82 game regular season schedule. Y'all make the ride so much better. Group hug everyone. Take a deep breath. Tell all your loved ones that you love them. Lace up your shoes and tighten your belt. Shit is about to get real. Wahoo.

Lakers beat the Nuggets 146-141

Expand full comment

So we are going against Jazz

Expand full comment

Nope. Jazz has the tiebreaker over the Nuggets, so they need to win tonight to earn the #5 spot of the West, which they did.

But other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?

Expand full comment

3 way tie for 2nd place in East, 2 way tie for 7/8, 2 way tie for 9/10 is pretty whack.

BB-Ref hasn't updated yet, but I think Celtics beat out the Suns for #1 in the league in adjusted net rating.

Big question tonight is what time did Doncic get injured? Was he still playing when Warriors had a giant lead? Was anyone in Dallas watching the GSW game and deciding when to throw in the white flag and pull Doncic?

Expand full comment

I mean, we were playing Klay, Dray, and Poole in an essentially meaningless game. Totally sucks for Dallas, but I don't think it's fair to play woulda-coulda.

Austin Reaves has a triple-double

Hate to rain on everyone's parade, but we are back to picking 28 in the Draft. Waa-Waa-Waaaah

Expand full comment

You remember the last player the warriors picked 28th?

Expand full comment

Nedovic…. Euro Derrick Rose

Expand full comment

Some Michigan guy, I think. ;-)

Expand full comment

Then again there was the guy we picked 28th the year before that. We tried to dump him on MN and he came back (albeit to Santa Cruz) like a bad penny.

Expand full comment

If every other 28th pick ends up a future HOFer then you're doing pretty well!

Lakers are looking very decent without any of the their big names on the floor. It's a shame Lebron didn't sit more and allow the support players to develop. Trade him!

Expand full comment

Almost like putting effort on both ends of the floor makes a difference in this league, huh?

Not saying Lebron was the main reason they failed. Or that he couldn’t have helped at all. But seeing him, the leader of that Laker team, loaf around and not give a crap on defense the whole season inevitably sets a tone for the rest of the players in that locker room. If Lebron can’t be arsed to defend or give effort, why would anyone else?

The Lakers had huge fit questions that even a blind man could see coming from a mile away before the season even started. But Lebron’s “leadership” exacerbated all their issues to the n-th degree, and killed whatever chance they had to even try to make it work.

(Then there’s the fact that Lebron basically LeGM’d the Lakers to get every player on that roster. Which makes it all even funnier.)

Expand full comment

It sure doesn't cast the present version of Lebron in a good light. He must be intimadating to some of the younger guys learning how to step up and play 'their' game instead of his game. Hopefully, the Laker brass goes in a different direction and allows their younger players to develop a completely different approach. I'm not sure if Davis or Lebron have no trade clauses, but I would try to move them and rebuild. They already have some good pieces.

Helluva contrast to our Unanimous, who after all these years as an offense superstar keeps working to improve on defense — and it has paid off.

Nuggets aren't playing Jokic and a few other starters tonight. So it looks like they aren't taking this game seriously.

I just love that lebron has decimated the Lakers future, they seem f’d for so many years, beautiful

Okay question to the void, Klay has been definitely trending back into form offensively but what have you guys seen about his performance defensively?

Expand full comment

He told Ernie Shaq and Chuck that he’s 100% offensively but he still has work to do on his defense. As expected, his reactive lateral movement is going to be the last thing to make it back.

Expand full comment

Still finding his feet physically. He was never the most athletic defender, but his size, instincts, and timing always compensated for it. He’s still not at top form on that, but he’s getting there.

Expand full comment

Nothing notable. Klay is primarily a scorer and that's just fine for what this team needs. His size will always make him defensively solid guarding other guards. I'm not worried.

Expand full comment

Slower than he used to be, less springy than he used to be, but each game better.

Expand full comment

He moved faster on D than I expected at times tonight. I thought he did a solid job.

With Poole doing his thing, he's also gonna be playing a lot more small forward — his more natural defensive position as he gets older, slower, and stronger.

Sounds like several Warriors not named Jon.
