Random Raptors fan with <200 tweets says this (just to get your blood flowing - I don't believe it):

https://twitter.com/LOWRYTIME7/status/1675665577929523200

Edit: Since many people can't see twitter (stupid choice) here's the tweet: "Sources are saying that Pascal Siakam has been traded to the Warriors"

Expand full comment

Won't open for me since Elon got cheap. What was said?

Expand full comment

Can you quote it, since Twitter is currently, well, tricky to access?

Expand full comment

“Sources are saying that Pascal Siakam has been traded to the Warriors“

Expand full comment

I know that Sources guy. I see him in the bar down the street, drunk as a skunk, every time I walk past the place. He'll say anything to get attention. 🙄

Expand full comment

OK. How would such a thing work?

Expand full comment

I’m sure the tweet is BS, but one deal that might make vague sense for both teams is CP3 + Kuminga.

Expand full comment

I agree. Just curious what it would involve.

Expand full comment

Both Joseph and Paul are very good AST/TOV. There won't be too many dumb turnovers from the bench. But they will need someone to score eventually. I guess that's going to be JK?

Expand full comment

JK, Moody, and an offense-first backup big?

Expand full comment

Saric is an offense-first backup big, isn't he?

Expand full comment

I like how you think

Expand full comment

I think the team still needs defense... either point of attack or interior, and preferably both!

Expand full comment

Well at least its not Lamb or Jamychael. Thats all i can ask for at this point and with everyone flying off the board

Free agent guard Cory Joseph has agreed on a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, @KlutchSports CEO Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh tell ESPN. Joseph averaged seven points and 3.5 assists for the Pistons a season ago.

Expand full comment

Makes sense. TJ played a little better, is getting paid a little more. Cory's not the worst 3rd pg the Dubs have had.

Expand full comment

Joseph was a favorite of Dwayne Casey in Toronto & followed him to the Pistons a couple of years ago, from what I recall.

Expand full comment

Is Dwayne Casey available as an assistant coach?

I think he might be a help to GSW.

Expand full comment

I think he got bumped upstairs to the FO in Detroit. He's probably done as a coach (he's 66).

Expand full comment

Noice. Now let’s just get a good center.

Don’t really care too much about the last roster spot, since we’ll be hard pressed to give a 2/3/4 significant minutes

Expand full comment

Yep.

Backup big next biggest priority, and then a wing for the 14th spot. Wonder if they will do a training camp competition for that spot.

Expand full comment

Good quick pivot by MDJ after Ty got stolen away.

Great news 👏🏻

Expand full comment

I will be taking credit for this, as clearly MDJ read my post from 3 hours ago. 🤣

Good work AJ, Cory Joseph will do nicely.

Expand full comment

Dfib instructed them to do something, so I think they heard him also.

Nice depth move given CP’s fragility — just hope his uptick in three point shooting the last two season is real. Super steady, rarely turns it over, Canadian, former Spur, etc. Would marginally have preferred Jerome, but I like that they’re leaning into hoops IQ and experience.

Now … get Saric!

Expand full comment

Even with his improved 3 point shooting, he's still pretty dreadful from two - 47.8% career and even lower last year.

Jul 3, 2023·edited Jul 3, 2023

Nice! We got our 3rd string PG! He was on my list of FAs the Warriors should probably get.

Expand full comment

Solid TBH. Now get Saric please.

Expand full comment

Let's say we do get Saric (whom I like). What about defending the paint and rim? Loon should not play huge minutes if we want to keep him healthy. We probably need to lighten Draymond's load a bit. We had problems much of last season with teams that had size and could attack the rim. I remember Cleveland and Detroit (not even a good team) giving us a hard time, not to mention Denver and LAL (esp. AD). We can deal with it to a point but those teams make it hard on us.

Like maple syrup? Or thanking each other excessively?

Let me see if I understand. The Phoenix Suns, finding themselves with an offense-heavy lineup featuring KD and Booker, decided: 1 That they needed Bradley Beal to add shooting at the expense of defense and depth , and 1. That they needed Eric Gordon

Who's gonna play defense? These guys should acquire Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford. Don't tell me they're retired. They can still go out there and get a bucket.

They have KD, Book, and Beal. Any of those guys can beat their man in 1:1. They don't really need another "creator."

Expand full comment

KD is much more creating good shots for himself though, not really a “creator” for others

Expand full comment

I think the Phoenix system at this point is following a philosophy of, "create for yourself" with passing out only in case of an obvious double-team.

Expand full comment

This is exactly it. Basically, one out of KD,Book,Beal will have a mis-match and be able to create something 1:1.

Expand full comment

So pretty much the same as last year but without CP3 as the middleman mucking things up with passes.

A lot fewer updates than yesterday. I don’t think the Chris Paul trade was holding things up, since those details were known, but the uncertainty of the Lillard move could be. Depending on who gets moved, that could change the landscape of who has free agent $ to spend, so it’s natural for free agents to wait…

On the one hand, it’s annoyingly hard to get free agents to come here for the minimum for the chance to fight with two rookies for the right to be 10th man, and also probably not get playoff minutes unless there’s a big injury.

On the other hand, the 10th man is not going to make or break this season. It’s going to be Steph’s health, then everybody else’s collective health, then rookie/free agent development.

Expand full comment

Draymond's anger management classes ...

Expand full comment

I'd argue that the third-year player development (MM, JK) is a lot more important than rookie/free agent development

Expand full comment

The thing I care most about is a big who can eat minutes and give Looney and Draymond more rest.

Expand full comment

Yes.

Expand full comment

Hello!!!!! Or what? Like no one on the staff thought of that last year? Sheesh.

Expand full comment

We had this 7 footer last year who was supposed to develop enough to play some of those minutes. It didn't work. I can't remember his name just now but he went to Detroit.

Expand full comment

Whatever his name was, we traded him for a guy 6'3". I love me some GP2, but size is size. And they made a conscious decision to head into the playoffs with a front court rotation of Dray, Looney, and 'you'll find me on the bench' JMG. That was wishful thinking.

Expand full comment

are you saying Wiseman would have helped us in the playoffs?

Expand full comment

No question we needed more size but if you recall, the FA options at the point when we gave up on Whatsisname were grim. MDJ said in his first presser as GM that we needed more size so let's see if he actually gets it done.

Now about GP2... when you think of him as 6'3", you're not including his pogo stick. 😉

Expand full comment

Yeah, my only expectation for these guys are to not cough up a 20pt lead in 2 minutes when they’re on the floor in the 9 games they play

How many minimum 1 yr contracts been handed out already is the question

Anyone know how someone who lives in southern Oregon can watch the summer league game. Asking for a friend.

Anyone else feel like Cory Joseph is the best PG option available? I'm upset about Ty, but Joseph would fill that role nicely.

Expand full comment

Yeah, he's sort of similar to Ty, isn't he? But without any real upside (bc he's 31). Arguably better than Neto, who seems to be another possible candidate.

Expand full comment

For a 3rd string PG it's not about upside. It's all about filling in gaps this coming season. After that, if they do a good job, they go the Ty/DDV route and get priced out of our reach.

Expand full comment

When I say 'upside' I'm not really thinking long term. I just mean that if I had to bet on one of them to far exceed his established level of play in '23-'24, it'd be Ty.

Expand full comment

Based on stats, it appears Cory Joseph has been pretty good the past two seasons. His 3 pt shooting has been the best of his career. I can't speak to his defense because I didn't see a lot of Detroit games. But if he gave us this season what he gave Detroit last season, as a 3rd stringer, that's probably good enough.

Love how national pundits are like “Do good by Lillard and trade him to Miami”. No one wants that Herro contract. Not Portland nor a third team without throwing a whole sleuth of additional compensation which Miami doesn’t have. If Im Portland i hold on to Dame and sit him. Let some desperate team give. up some decent assets midseason. At this point not even expecting Portland to get equal value but absorbing that Herro contract is quite the opposite of that.

Expand full comment

I know it’s an old fashioned notion, but I thought when you sign a contract, you should be expected to play it out.

I’m pro labor. but this is one area where I think the players are wrong.

Expand full comment

It’s an imperfect system, for sure… situations change and they can’t reasonably punish players that just refuse to play

Expand full comment

Oh but they can. If Dame just refused to play without a legit injury (with medical exam), he could be suspended without pay. It's rare that happens but it happened (fairly or not, because he had emotional issues) to Ben Simmons. Or trade Dame to a team that believes they can make him happy once he's there, even if they're not Miami. Dame should still bring a nice return, even if Portland offers a bit of a discount because of the situation.

Expand full comment

Yeah, guys like Dame or Simmons who have made over a hundred million dollars aren’t heavily punished by suspension without pay… and the fans/customers ultimately will mostly side with the players and rejoice their return to the court when it happens. The only penalty to the player is money lost while sitting. The team is much more heavily harmed…

Expand full comment

Sure, and Dame is probably more popular than Simmons with the fans as well. However, that's $45.6M if Dame sat for the whole season — not chump change. You think he'd blow that off? But I cannot see Dame just sitting it out anyway; he doesn't seem the type.

If I'm Portland's GM, I'd trade him ASAP but only in a deal that helps the Blazers. First I would try to swing a multi-team deal that sends Dame to Miami and gets back some players/assets POR really wants, probably via a third team. If that doesn't work, I'd trade him wherever the Blazers can get the most value.

Expand full comment

What would be in it for the third team? Herro? XD
