Do you record yourself unscripted? Or several times and then edit? Do you write out a script or even notes? It sounds very natural and unscripted, like youve watched the clips a few times and then have an idea what you want to say. I think thats one of the many things I like about your vids. Bravo as usual!
- I never pre-script. I find it’s more fun for me and sounds better if I just hit record, improvise, and edit out all the boring parts.
- Unless it’s a “live reaction video” then I’ve usually watched the plays a couple of times because I try to pick plays that have a theme, so I usually know what I want to talk about.
- I take a small number of brief notes during the game. Figuring out what to talk about is honestly the hardest part for me, because there’s usually quite a few interesting things to discuss. Part of the challenge is to select something that can be addressed in a <10 min video that I make within 12 hours of the game.
- I’ve had a dream that I could have a focus group of fans that could help point out plays they wanted analyzed. I have half-heartedly tried that with the #E1P hashtag but I’ve never pushed that hard. Still needing ideas around that…
Why was TJD benched all season until now? Why was JK who was playing great vs. Brooklyn iced in the 4th qtr? Why was Loon brought in late last night vs the young Portland team?
Alc identifies CP as the odd man out - wants to slide BP to the backup PG position, and trade CP for more help, getting more athletic and bigger all around.
They'll need to gel and learn how to adjust together, and stop passing the ball out of bounds, stop faking back cuts, stop playing indecisively against pressure, etc. They need to learn to trust each other and find/accept their roles within the team. Then they'll be able to compete with those "veteran playoff defense" teams.
Yes - and the vets do have the template for this already imprinted in their experience and muscle memory - they have to teach the young'uns this in time to gel for the postseason - Hard to do, but also possible. And if they do, the rest of the league better watch out!
It's interesting, and he makes some good points. But I think he's off base about some things.
Podz does not look like a backup PG right now. He could get there, maybe even this season, but he's not ready to take over now. And he is being successful as a 2, so it makes sense to let him continue to succeed there for now. CP3 has been key to unlocking our bench mob. So I don't agree with Alc there.
As for TJD, I am delighted to see him get minutes and agree he should get a lot more. I also didn't like him being iced vs the Nets in the 4th quarter. But as to why was he benched until now, I think it's mainly because he's a rookie, a 2nd round pick at that, and although we can cite exceptions, few guys like that on a contending or wanna-be contending team get a lot of playing time early in their rookie season. It was reasonable to let veterans Looney and Saric get those minutes unless and until they showed they weren't getting the job done.
But that situation is now changing. We've seen more of what TJD can do, what Loon isn't doing well this season, and Saric's limitations (especially on defense). That hopefully will lead to a lot more TJD. Plus as was said elsewhere in this thread, maybe TJD and Saric could play together at times. With Draymond out, it's a good time to try it.
Yeah.. as good as Podz has been, we can all agree he's better off as "the connector" right now. His handles are not tight enough yet to consistently take pressure off of Steph
I see this too... but I'm not 100% sure what I will need to see to believe he's ready for backup PG role.
My list:
1. Able to bring the ball up court comfortably
2. Call out the play
3. Able to get free of defender in the half court and start a play
4. Be ball handler in P&R and create some advantage
5. Be able to beat switches onto bigs
I think he struggles with #1 & #3, doesn't yet get opportunities to do #2 & #4, and hasn't had enough touches to establish whether he can do #5. What to add? I'd add "don't make stupid passes", but... Steph does that all the time.
I think these 5 items are a pretty good "point guard" list without adding any other conditions. Everyone has other strengths and weaknesses to their game, and in some cases an unusual strength might even allow you to take one or two things from a list like this one and have another guy handle it.
You could make #5 more generic, as "be able to beat favorable switches 1-on-1" to allow for "point forward" / bigger point guards to exploit size mismatches the other way. But compared with other certain parts of the "point guard" role really are pretty distinct and not negotiable, especially #1 but also #3.
He is actively practicing #1 and #3. We see it in the games and he's doing it more and more with the starting and closing units. I don't know if he does #2. I've seen him yelling a play or two, but I figured it probably came from Kerr. Don't remember him doing #4 much. #5: He did beat Ayton just the other night. But that's lolDominAyton!
Also, did anyone notice how the vets just surrounded Podz after he took the charge? Wiggs gets to him first b/c CP is too busy signaling and celebrating the charge call, but heads over soon after, and they both help him up, CP talking at him all the while, Klay and Steph are next with a chest bump and high five, and Klay just follows him, bumping against him.
"[BP] made the play because he was on the court. And he was on the court because Steve Kerr wants him there. And that alone might be proof of ice cubes in Hades.
Podz, as the streets have dubbed him, is enjoying a luxury not granted to rookies during the dynastic era: trust. We’ve never seen Kerr give the keys to a rookie like this, at least not in a season that matters. We’ve never seen the Warriors’ championship core take to and believe in a rookie like this. He doesn’t turn 21 years old until February. Tuesday against Boston will be his 21st career game. Yet, he already seems indispensable.
“He’s got that dog in him,” Jonathan Kuminga said. “He got that one chance, that opportunity I feel like he needed. And look at him now. He’s rolling.”
...
“He showed flashes in training camp,” Kuminga said. “I was afraid for him because I didn’t know if he was going to play as a rookie. You know how it goes over here. You’ve got CP. You’ve got Cory Joseph. You’ve got Steph. So, I really didn’t know if he was going to play. But he showed flashes that he was going to be good.”
...
Yet he fits the Warriors like a pair of Skims. He’s the love child of the basketball philosophies of Kerr and Dunleavy. A melding of skill and toughness, of smarts and fearlessness, of hubris and humility. It’s good enough to get him on the court, even at the end of games.
Agree on Whitmore based on what I've seen, but some other good calls there too - Cason Wallace looks really good, for example, and I didn't see him coming at all.
kind of incredible that we've managed to salvage a mid tier offense while being last in two of the three "easy offense" categories (fast break, points in the paint… bet we aren't top of the charts in points off free throws either)
I'd be interested in the FTA before the last 40 seconds of games. Feels like we've had so many close games that a significant portion of our FTA are those foul-to-extend-the-game free throws. I'd guess our ranking in FTA over the first 47 minutes is probably a few spots lower.
I like him, too. But if we’re gutting the team — say, dumping CP3, Klay, and Wiggs — to clear the actual cap space needed to sign a pricy free agent, I’m not sure why our top target would be a 215 lb. shotblocking specialist who doesn’t shoot, pass, or dribble, is a much worse FT shooter than Kuminga, and would effectively block TJD from ever seeing real rotation minutes.
I don't think we are able to offer our 2025 FRP. Markkanen is a really good fit with our team, but we probably don't have a competitive enough offer to get him.
The Pacers are kind of coming back down to earth after their hot start and they might see Markkanen as a better fit with their core than Turner. he's a bit younger and is a better offensive player.
Jazz would need to cut/waive/buyout a few players off the back of their roster, but they would essentially get 4 young assets and Joseph's expiring. Although we lose Kuminga's potential and a FRP, we upgrade at center in terms of rim protection / floor spacing, open up minutes for Moody, and plug in a higher motor version of Wiggins with less scoring. Pacers put together Don Nelson's wet dream of a starting line-up of Haliburton / Hield / Brown / Toppin / Markkanen. Toronto brings Wiggins back home and snag a mid first round pick.
Our rotation becomes:
Guard: Curry, CP3, Podz
Wing: Thompson, Anunoby, GP2, Moody
PF/C: Green, Turner, Saric, TJD
In the offseason, we get under the luxury tax by CP3 walking/retiring/taking vet min and Klay taking a reasonable extension ($20-25M/year).
I've been mulling something like CP3 + Moody or Kuminga + 2 unprotected or lightly protected picks for Markkanen and Sexton.
Getting off Sexton may be of value for the Jazz who have Clarkson as another combo guard, and Keyonte George as the young guard they want to build around. I've always liked Sexton.
I think the Jazz would prefer Moody as he's an easier piece to build around. If Markkanen is on the Warriors roster it really turns the Warriors shooting into a major strength, and Kuminga's slashing ability would be great in those lineups.
Sure, there maybe more. Another pick and a pick swap. But I do think that depending on protections the Warriors future picks will have a lot more value than most other teams in the mix. If one pick has even the potential to be a top 3-5 pick that could be worth 2-3+ picks from another team.
The Warriors are a 12-14 team and the best player is almost 36.
When Ainge traded with the T-Wolves they were coming off a 46 win season and their best player was 20.
The Cavs were 44-38 the previous year and their two best players were 20 and 22.
We shall see at the end of the season... word on the streetz is that the Dubs offered Klay $48M/2 years, while Klay was asking for $250M/4 years (or whatever was the max he could get)... My educated guess is that it'll be somewhere between those #s... unless Klay tears another ACL before negotiations. I know, I know... it's a hot take, but I'm comfortable going out on this limb.
I'm not sure. A future Warriors unprotected or lightly protected first round pick is starting to look pretty good. The Thunder have a million picks, but very few if any project as top 10 picks. They have the next four Clippers picks in their control.
Last year Ainge traded Conley, Vanderbilt, Beasley and a couple 2nd round picks just to get a top 4 Lakers protected pick in 2027. It was a very strong bet against their future
Markkanen on OKC would be a crazy front court with Chet though. They can easily offer Giddey + Bertans+ 3 1st round picks and that'd probably be enough
I don't think anyone will trade for Giddy unless he is cleared of those accusations. It's not just PR, although there is that; but who wants to trade for a guy who could end up in the slammer?
This team already has a deep rotation and not enough minutes for guys, think they need to go the other way and shorten the rotation. Do we think Kuminga would be happy with his playing time if they traded for Markkanen? Saric if they traded for Olynyk?
TJD is the only rookie since this run began that I would be opposed to trading. (Yes reluctantly even Ryan Rollins). Just gives us a unique skillset that doesn’t seem to be easily duplicated. I would still like to see a trade package around Corporal Paul and anyone of Podz, Kuminga, Moody with the obvious caveat that we better be getting some decent vet pieces in return
CP3+Kuminga+picks would be my preference for a trade package, and personally I'd prefer that over doing nothing. Warrior roster definitely looks like it could use a consolidation trade.
Kuminga is in an awkward contract area where it really feels like the team should trade him mid season if they don’t plan to pay him. He’s offering good minutes but he’s never been shy about wanting to be a star. Having control of the next contract has value, and they could probably get more out of a trade now than by doing the Jordan Poole.
I think if you trade CP3, you might try to get another guard who can handle. Like maybe try to swap Olynyk to Detroit and get Alec Burks or something (I haven't looked at the finances or why such a trade would be accepted by Detroit or anything).
I do think though that if you get Markkanen, you can probably just play Podz at the backup 1 and run the bench offense through Markkanen and let Podz do his "connecting" shit.
It's hard to know what a FO will actually do but based on what Monty Williams says, they appear to want to hold onto Bogdanovic. Of course a coach is gonna say that to keep the player happy.
Thats never deviated by how I feel about rookies and Stephs window. You give something of value to get simething of value. I don’t think we are getting CP3 for lets say Siakkam straight up
Just my $0.02, but I don't trade Podz under almost any scenario this year. He's already better than DDV was and on the 1st year of his rookie contract. His value likely will only increase.
I'd prioritize keeping Podz over anyone else. He's potentially a guy that can shoot, defend his position, run the offense, rebound, and play hard the entire game. Still not sure how I feel about a consolidation trade with CP3 and one or two of the young guys getting send out. If it moves the needle this season, great. But if it doesn't, the future is all the more bleak.
https://dubnationhq.com/p/dub-nation-hq-takes-first-place-in DNHQ wins first place!
Cp3 probably out with illness again tomorrow.
boo...
Well, it wasn't exactly a likely win, anyway.
Let's see what Cojo can do. It's going to be weird to see Cojo and Podz getting big minutes (both will get 20+, I would think).
Plus it probably means more Kuminga/Moody to close the game, which I'm all for.
We’re winning this game
Question for the Maestro Apricot:
Whats your e1p process?
How do you decide what to focus on?

DubnationHQ is falling down on the job. I had to find this on ESPN.
"Four-time NBA All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins has signed a deal with the Taiwan Beer Leopards."
I think we need to change the name of the SC Warriors to 'Beer Leopards', immediately. Or maybe "Wine Pandas."
Somebody called that out earlier. You’re falling down, DNHQ is #winning
< hangs head in shame, trademarks 'Wine Pandas' >
That's a compulsory name changer to Wine Pandas indefinitely until/If Dray comes back.
All about the follow through.
I'm considering going back for another taste of Warriors Live while I'm State side. Any advice on scalping tickets at Chase?
try the game time app
Ticketmaster resale seats are variable , you have to keep clicking to see prices..sometimes very close to game time the prices are almost reasonable..
Apparently nothing to do to avoid the sky high prices
Alc makes some really good points about Dub rotations. He's concerned about the decision making and also feels like the roster is unbalanced.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUvbqSsZXkI

all the answers to the "why" question has always been Kerr!
I do see this team struggling with playoff defense against vet teams and not these random games against younger teams
They'll need to gel and learn how to adjust together, and stop passing the ball out of bounds, stop faking back cuts, stop playing indecisively against pressure, etc. They need to learn to trust each other and find/accept their roles within the team. Agreed. Kerr wants Steph off the ball as much as possible. Not sure Podz is ready to handle that level of PG duties.
I think they’d both be 1/2 combos.

Damn. MT2 really spins a yarn:
He has an article out on Podz talking about his ball-handling, maturity, hard work, confidence, and intangibles: https://theathletic.com/5143032/2023/12/18/brandin-podziemski-warriors-rookies-thompson/

Loved the article. Also, the comments under it led me to this pre-draft scouting report on Podzilla (scroll down to draftee #8 - our guy):

Note to EA: send this Don Yates guy an invitation to be a DNHQ guest writer / interviewee!
I like the Podz scout, but the Cam Whitmore at #3 pick is a little terrifying
Lots of misses there…
Agree on Whitmore based on what I've seen, but some other good calls there too - Cason Wallace looks really good, for example, and I didn't see him coming at all.
That's a good scouting report
Warriors stats so far:
Offense:
12 in points scored (115.9)
30 in points in paint (40.9)
30 in fastbreak points (10.6)
16 in offensive efficiency
25 in shooting % (45.5%)
14 in three point % (37.1%)
24 in two point % (52.3%)
3 in off. rebound % !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (28.8%)
15 in def. rebound % (75.6%)
3 in total rebound % !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (52.0%)
8 in opponent blocks!!!!! (4.6)
22 in opponent steals (8.1)
7 in assists!!!!!!! (27.6)
27 in turnovers (15.6)
Defense:
20 in points allowed (115.7)
15 in opponent points in paint (49.5)
20 in opponent fastbreak points (14.5)
15 in defensive efficiency
13 in opponent shooting % (46.5%)
7 in opponent three point % !!!!!!!! (34.9%)
16 in opponent two point % (54.0%)
28 in blocks (3.4)
19 in steals (7.1)
9 in opponent assists!!! (25.0)
22 in opponent turnovers (13.3)
kind of incredible that we've managed to salvage a mid tier offense while being last in two of the three "easy offense" categories (fast break, points in the paint… bet we aren't top of the charts in points off free throws either)
Steph effect
We're #9 in FTM, #8 in FTA, and #12 in FT%... #8 in PFD as well (make sense, as these would all correlate).
Night and day from last year in the FTM/FTA cats.
Yup... drawing more fouls... now just need to figure out how to consistently stop fouling.
I'd be interested in the FTA before the last 40 seconds of games. Feels like we've had so many close games that a significant portion of our FTA are those foul-to-extend-the-game free throws. I'd guess our ranking in FTA over the first 47 minutes is probably a few spots lower.
Forget about Claxton. If TJD continues to play well, Warriors will have their own version of Claxton.
Who was it that was mooning over Claxton, again? 🤔
Me, for one
I like him, too.

We have enough of our future already on the roster. CP3 + 2025/2027/2029 1st round picks + 2026 2nd round via ATL for Markkanen and Olynyk
#PleaseAcceptUtah
I don't think we are able to offer our 2025 FRP. Markkanen is a really good fit with our team, but we probably don't have a competitive enough offer to get him.
The Pacers are kind of coming back down to earth after their hot start and they might see Markkanen as a better fit with their core than Turner. he's a bit younger and is a better offensive player.
Dubs: Turner, Anunoby
Jazz: Kuminga, Jarace Walker, Gradey Dick, Cory Joseph, Pacers or Warriors FRP
Pacers: Markkanen, Looney
Raptors: Wiggins, Pacers or Warriors FRP
Jazz would need to cut/waive/buyout a few players off the back of their roster, but they would essentially get 4 young assets and Joseph's expiring. It's just a different valuation.
you'd for sure need a couple picks in basically any Markkanen deal
Hopefully MDJ knows that if he shakes hands on a deal with Danny Ainge, he had best count his fingers afterward.
You need to offload one of JK or Moody from financial point of view if you think we should re-sign Klay next year.
What do you think we’d need to offer to re-sign Klay?
We shall see at the end of the season... word on the streetz is that the Dubs offered Klay $48M/2 years, while Klay was asking for $250M/4 years (or whatever was the max he could get)... It’s so insane that Klay would even ask for that LOL
I mean... I'm only referencing his team talking about "the max" back in, like, Feb/March of last year. Who knows what his team is expecting now.
if
Ainge is looking for a Gobert- or Mitchell-level haul for Makkanen. We don't have anything comparable to what OKC can offer, as an example.
Does OKC want him? They're loaded with talented young guys at this point.
Wouldn't be surprised if teams like the Kings, Mavericks or Lakers are calling to ask about him
Markkanen on OKC would be a crazy front court with Chet though. They can easily offer Giddey + Bertans+ 3 1st round picks and that'd probably be enough
does Ainge even want Giddey? That looks like a PR debacle waiting to happen.
I don't think anyone will trade for Giddy unless he is cleared of those accusations. It's not just PR, although there is that; but who wants to trade for a guy who could end up in the slammer?
3FRPs from 2024, even. Of course, somebody's putting notes out there that this draft isn't so hot...
This team already has a deep rotation and not enough minutes for guys, think they need to go the other way and shorten the rotation. Do we think Kuminga would be happy with his playing time if they traded for Markkanen? Saric if they traded for Olynyk?
Agree completely.
I want to know who I’m getting if I’m giving up Kuminga + CP3 + picks.
Dwight Howard.
Damn, I was holding out for Amare Stoudemire, but okay, deal.
Amar'e is only a year older than LeBron, something like that. C'mon big fella! 😉
CP3 + JK + 2 1st rounders for Markkanen and Olynyk also works
I think if you trade CP3, you might try to get another guard who can handle. Like maybe try to swap Olynyk to Detroit and get Alec Burks or something (I haven't looked at the finances or why such a trade would be accepted by Detroit or anything).
I do think though that if you get Markkanen, you can probably just play Podz at the backup 1 and run the bench offense through Markkanen and let Podz do his "connecting" shit.
GSW gets: Markkanen + Burks
UTAH gets: Kuminga + Bogdanovic + Joe Harris + picks via DET/GSW
DET gets: CP3 + Olynyk + THT
No idea why Detroit or even Utah does it but it works financially lol
*I'm aware this is a very Lakers fan type of trade proposal*
Detroit gets... CP3 + Olynyk + THT and gives up Bogdanovic, Harris, AND picks? I think they don't participate in this one, lol
It's hard to know what a FO will actually do but based on what Monty Williams says, they appear to want to hold onto Bogdanovic. Of course a coach is gonna say that to keep the player happy.
> anyone of Podz, Kuminga, Moody
I’m just gonna follow the advice from yesterday and assume this is comedy.
