So Boston Denver it is I guess?

OKC can't stop Jokić and Dallas with a wobbly Dončić is not a match.

Wolves could still take G6, but no way Boston gets stopped before the Finals

Lets hope the Knicks can at least make it hard . If it’s the pacers it’s going to be smooth sailing for Boston

And so begins Anthony Edwards and the rest of the T-Wolves education on what it means to be truly treated like a superstar in the playoffs. The media & league at large are soooo thirsty for #thenext... he's been great, I'm sure he'll continue to be great, but there are levels to this. I wonder whether he'll still be scoring efficiently after the entire league spends 10+ years studying his every subtle move and figuring out how to throw triple teams at him.

Lets go Golden State Valkyries!!!

"Originating from Norse mythology, Valkyries are a host of warrior women who are fearless and unwavering – flying through air and sea alike."

Colors are purple and black? Not sure how that fits with Golden State. More like Sacramento Monarchs.

I watched Knicks - Pacers tonight. Weird how much Halliburton was out of the flow, not shooting, timid even. The Pacers offense can fly so high, or just go nowhere. Young team issues I guess.

I unironically think the Wolves need to try benching Gobert, putting KAT at the 5, try to spread the Nuggets out, and rely on their perimeter defense. Not sure they have any answers if Conley is out but their current approach is DOA.

That trade package could have got them damn near anyone in the league and they chose a fraud. Tough.

Feels like there are a number of these 'catch-22 players' in the NBA: guys whose talents are sufficient almost to ensure high-level contention, but whose weaknesses are likewise sufficient to preclude actually *winning* the title. Often these are extreme high-usage offensive players (a la James Harden), who ultimately run out of gas/ counters to coaching adjustments/ both. Gobert appears to be the defensive version of that.

I can see why it’s tempting for a team like Minnesota to acquire this kind of player (or Sac, when they traded for Sabonis), because just making the playoffs is a big deal for them. On the other hand, they may have put a ceiling on their team before it even had a chance to develop.

Nuggets beat the Wolves 112-97 and go up 3-2 in the series. Denver's won their first home game of the series before the Wolves did. Now they just need to take care of the business in Minnesota to close out the series.

Rudy Gobert has 4x the DPoYs of AD and Dray combined. Just outlandish how inept these voters are

Expand full comment

Well, who should have been DPOY?

Expand full comment

Jrue, Bam, and dare I say...maybe even Wemby?

Expand full comment

Wemby

Expand full comment

I think they've already etched Wemby's name onto the next several DPOY trophies.

Expand full comment

Wemby was the runner-up, right? But their team's D wasn't so great, and the team wasn't so great, and he's a rookie, so maybe that's why he didn't get DPOY. I think he should have.

I don't like Gobert and I think he's overrated, but it's worth noting that Jokic demolished AD, too.

Gobert gets exposed every single postseason. AD has been a defensive god in the playoffs for years

Enjoy that DPOY you fraud

Don't lose track of the fact that Jokic is very very fit. He has a reputation as pudgy or unathletic and then he gives you 40 minute nights where he's constantly running. That guy....

And, his movements/mechanics before whatever shot/toss he throws at the rim are pure, so smooth, natural....

Expand full comment

They'd have a better chance of getting him tired if Gobert could do more than camp around the rim offensively

Incredible hands... strong yet can use them for soft finishes... they must be huge and well conditioned.

Look how better coached Denver is compared to the wolves. I feel like we could dog both teams, dray defends jokic way better then gobert

Wolves are done. And not just in this game.

I agree. Not a big market team and no draft capital to trade + new cap rules. Edwards is on his own from now on. They will be too good to have top draft picks (those every second year they own the pick).

Maybe they can find some dumb team to give them back some draft capital for Towns but I doubt it. Teams are less stupid nowadays with all the advanced stats at their disposal.

They need Conley

Expand full comment

tough to count on him very far into the future tho, and what's their path to a replacement point guard?

Ant and Daniels are gonna be such a steal in the final year of their contracts at $47M & $30M respectively in the 28/29 season when the lux tax doesn't kick in until $261M...

When you put it that's way, it's not even close to the steal of Steph at 11 million last decade

There should be an award above MVP for Jokic. My God that guy's good.

Expand full comment

Masterful. I don't recall ever watching a single player so elite at so many skills as Jokic, as well as the mental side of the game, knowing when to take over, when to take the dagger. He seldom seems bothered or rushed, always in total command of his game, two steps ahead of his defender. I had the same feeling about Larry Bird when I was a Boston resident/fan, but honestly Jokic is on another level.

Expand full comment

After writing that it occurred to me that Jokic can do everything that Bird, Parish, and McHale could do in their prime, and arguably does all of it better than they did.

Expand full comment

Agreed. I am ready to consider him the best player ever. Not declare him that, just consider it. Much higher level than anyone in the game.
