I think my vote goes to #SIMPSON because his scoring ability looks like the real deal and I think we're gonna want people who can put the ball in the basket with high efficiency in coming years.

[esidery] The Warriors are expected to actively shop Andrew Wiggins in trade talks this offseason. Wiggins has $84.7 million remaining on his contract over the next three years. With the emergence of Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State will attempt to offload Wiggins for a better fit.

Post was deleted on Reddit… looks like completely unsourced opinion presented in official language… it wouldn’t surprise me if they do shop him, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t, either.

It's not like trading Wiggins hasn't been talked about in the media and on fan sites for most of the past year. This is just more of the same idle speculation, it's just worded as if it means something.

Expand full comment

Sheer, malicious,....blasphemy.

Expand full comment

I hope so but who's going to pant that contract?

Expand full comment

To be fair thats exactly what people said before we traded for him and got All-Star Wiggs and a championship.

Expand full comment

But they had to trade a first to offload him (JK). I don’t see us being willing to do that.

Expand full comment

Yeah but my point is that their value analysis of Wiggs and that pick were wrong. They (and most of the league) viewed Wiggs as a negative asset. In reality a change if scenery and role led to an all-star campaign. While I doubt the Warriors expected an all-star campaign out of him, they saw a lot more potential than the rest of the league did.

I think the assumption that Wiggs is a negative asset that we need to pay to be rid of is hasty and likely wrong, in a similar vein. And now that Wiggs has shown the All-Star potential I think many teams (Warriors included) see that value.

Expand full comment

And Wiggins was comparatively more highly paid back then.

Expand full comment

Just rewatched the play-in game and Jesus Christ, Wiggins missed 100 layups and got torched, kuminga defended fox and Barnes much better.

Expand full comment

Why would you do such a thing man

Expand full comment

If I was the Wolves, I'd look to resign Naz Reid and trade KAT. Naz with more minutes is only a slight downgrade compared to KAT and KAT's contract will allow for them to secure a wing/guard that's a better fit.

Expand full comment

I'll take a 3 way trade for Kat.

Expand full comment

I agree with the others that KAT won't be coming here but I see him fitting in with our group very well. A stretch 5 and a rim protector. But KAT seems slow. I wouldn't call him athletic and I'd rather see a younger pogo stick with quick hands and legs.

Expand full comment

KAT has a really huge contract, though....

Expand full comment

And he's under contract for four more seasons at that huge (and increasing) salary. I can't see Lacob taking that on.

Expand full comment

Kat for wiggins - not giving up anyone else for that dude - he is at best a #3 option on a championship team

Expand full comment

Kat next to Curry and Green is a title

He is not a winning player - not clutch and not reliable to boot

It takes a lot more than a big 3. Ask the Suns.

Incredible basketball player. Saw him play a couple of times with UCLA and as a Trailblazer.

Possibly the finest college career and one of the best NCAA championship games ever.

Injuries hampered his abilities but was still able to maximize his talents.

Did well in the NBA bringing Portland a championship as an MVP and then win a 2nd with Boston as 6th man of the year.

Brought true "color" commentary to broadcasts as an announcer. Made tuning in fun with knowledgable insights that fans and non-fans could appreciate.

Advocate of West Coast athletics, both men and women, and of course the PAC- 8/10/12 Conference of Champions... very sad to see its demise.

Shocked and even sadder to hear of his death.

That’s sad news. And just back from a memorial service at Golden Gate National Cemetery where I saw a 98 year old vet who was part of the Okinawa battle. Sad and proud at the same time 🙏🏾

I didn’t know it at the time, but I lived really close to the Walton’s place in San Diego in the 2000’s. One day I was on a run in Balboa Park and heard the most instantly recognizable voice for basketball fan ring out behind me “on your left!”. I knew it was Bill Walton before I turned my head. Sure enough this huge dude cruises by on an an impossibly large framed bike. I said “right on, Bill!” And he gave me a wave.

That '77 Blazers championship team reminded me a lot of the 2015 Warriors - one star player but a great supporting cast - Lionel Hollins, Maurice Lucas, Dave Twardzik, Bobby Gross. Too bad Walton couldn't stay healthy.

I agree with the comments below that he likely won't fall to us, but that's not a reason to not vote for the best player and fit. KJ Simpson would be my second choice. He would bring a dimension to the second unit that is currently missing.

The dream is over. Ill-fated Destiny.

((

Warriors' C Usman Garuba who is an RFA this summer with a $2.4M qualifying offer appears to be returning to Spain.

Warriors could retain his NBA rights by submitting his QO, even if Garuba signs with Madrid. Something they've done with Nico Mannion the past few offseasons.

Garuba, still only 22, averaged a double-double for the Santa Cruz Warriors this past season (13.6ppg, 11.1rpg, 1.2spg, 1.2bpg on 57% FG).

However, after the Warriors converted him for the play-in it seemed unlikely they would retain him at his QO ($300k above a 1yr vet min).

Makes sense, really. Unless the Dubs get rid of Looney, the three center spots are nailed down between Loon, Dray and TJD. He might have had a shot at the main roster as the fourth big, but probably not.

As mayor of Garuba rock, I'm sad to see him go, though. So far, I'm batting a thousand on my guys (Poole, LQ, Garuba).

Which probably means that whoever I pick in the draft tourney should be automatically DQd.

We hardly knew him. I would have liked to see him play more and find out if he has an NBA game. I never thought he was a Kerr 'type' but I'm sure he could fit a role somewhere in the NBA.

Tim Hardaway Jr. didn't play any minutes tonight. In fact, Jaden Hardy and Josh Green took Hardaway and Exum's minutes.

Improvements by our age 22 combo of JK/Moody and improvements by our excellent as rookies going into their sophomore seasons Podz/TJD and we're fuckin golden again. But crucial is Wiggs coming back to '22 form, which I have faith can/will happen

Expand full comment

I think it’s time we stop counting on Wiggins to be a reliable player. I think there’s enough sample size now to determine his 22 season was an anomaly

Expand full comment

Totally disagree. He was just as good in 2021, and the first half of 2023. He had established a bar of play across about 200 regular and postseason games in what are traditional basketball prime years.

Then he missed a half season for unexplained reasons. Then he was just bizarrely worse last year. So last year was the anomaly in terms of what he has been as a Warrior.

I guess we'll see

Expand full comment

He was great at the start of the 23 season until he had his ab injury and then personal absence...

I just think we need a legit 7 foot rim protector/lob threat. Tjd is nice but he's 3 inches too short.

I mean, neither Boston nor Dallas have a legit 7 foot rim protecting center

Gafford plays bigger than his listed 6'10. TJD has hopefully shown in his first year that he can develop along similar lines.

Hmm, well admittedly I haven't watched much of the postseason this year m, I just checked he played only 10 minutes last night, but I still don't necessarily think a 7 footer is just gonna magically make us a contender again.

Bruh what? They’re both 7 feet plus and are great shot blockers. Lmao

The victory laps about the Gobert trade because of their regular season success made no sense when a trade of that magnitude is made with a championship in mind. Get a championship (or at least to the Finals) or it's a colossal failure of a trade, sorry.

Expand full comment

Disagree - getting to the conference finals is hard. Minnesota hasn't been there in 20 years. The fan base will remember this and they are fired up. Maybe it's a failure but certainly not a colossal one.

May 27·edited May 27

That was a Finals/championship or bust price they paid imo. Also how it will be remembered by the fanbase is yet to be determined tbh, future seasons will play into that.

Expand full comment
May 27·edited May 27

I mean Dallas drafted Lively as a rookie and traded peanuts for Gafford who both I'd say does 80-90% of what Gobert do already on 10x less salary. There's no reason to give a rim protector/lob threat with no other skills a max and 5 frps, just gotta get lucky to get one on the cheap.

Expand full comment

I think Lively already does 110% of what Gobert does, tbh (much better passer, e.g.) And unlike Gobert, he’s perfectly aligned age-wise with Ant and McDaniels. The reason you hold onto your picks and keep your powder dry when you have an Ant in place is precisely to try to add a stud like Lively to turn a “promising young core” into a championship one.

If you’re totally emptying the cupboard for a LeBron or KD or Giannis in his prime, that’s one thing, but for Gobert? My word.

Expand full comment

That's why the wolves will be stuck. No cap space and no draft picks while Ant is still young. I would unload Kat and Gobert to get some draft picks back but that might me hard to do now.

Expand full comment

Always a market for a 4 time DPOY.

This isn't even close to the first time the stifle tower has been (or should have been) played off the floor when games matter. He needs to be shipped to a non-contender so his regular season "greatness" isn't tainted by inevitable post season WTF-ery when a coach doesn't have enough sense to pull him in crunch time.

Expand full comment

I think they can get a pick or 2 back with Kat because it's hard to find legit stretch bigs that doesn't kill your defense and can score but for sure not Gobert.

Basketball is a great sport. If you just watch because you root for a certain team, then you can't understand the game in full. Other teams play differently and it's exciting to watch them. Indiana lost its series but played every game competitively......We saw Denver collapse and now we are seeing Twolves collapse. No one would have thought that Dallas is going to the Finals, but it sure looks that way now.

Well, I watched them all and I admit I am thoroughly spoiled by the historic Dub Dynasty...maybe my memory is failing, but I recall our first playoffs, we reached the 2d round and almost upended the eventual NBA 'Ship SPURS, with hobbling STEPH playing decoy, Bogut at 60%, D.
