I bet DLee woke up pissed this morning. He’s got a nice floater too. Even if Avidja was 7 ft tall (which he is not) Lee could have just kissed a teardrop off the glass and jumped on the scorers table or something. Instead he’s at brunch at Stephs house with Curry kids asking, “uncle Damion, why didn’t you just make the layup to win the game? that’s what daddy would have done”.

Will Payton II play against Houston? Anyone got any thing on this? He's got the DNA, does he have the goods, though?

Taking a look at the gameflow.

Poole-DLee-Bazemore-Oubre-Wiseman played ~3 minutes in the 2nd quarter and went +6 and Poole-DLee-Bazemore-Wiggins-Wiseman played 6 minutes in the 4th and went +10.

Did we finally find a bench combination that works? I've been wanting to see that 4th quarter one for some time; it actually has shooters to spread the floor and Wiseman to take advantage of it.

Though, would be better if Poole's scoring hadn't cratered the past couple weeks, still Poole was +7, he couldn't buy a bucket but seemed to run the PnR alright, and got help with the playmaking with a couple assists each from Oubre and Wiggins in their bench stints.

Expand full comment

Poole wasn't forcing anything which I like but he was being super passive after missing his first jumper, I think the spacing is just not there for him with looney playing, I'd much rather have poole n wiseman working PnRs against second units or poole and EP

I missed the game. Can someone explain what happened? I personally had a hunch we'd lose to Houston. Didn't think it'd be the wizards.

you’re lucky that you missed the game, i still pissed

but tonight’s game i will not see it, whatever happened

Just saw the beal shot. Lol @us losing by fouling a shooter. Very fitting

Any team but the worst rebounding team in the league would've won this one after Westbrook bricked the open three. It's as simple as that.

Expand full comment

In fairness, that was the stupidest rebound ever. Such a brick that it laser-beamed straight downward to Beal on the perimeter. Plenty of good rebounding teams fail to corral that board.

Ws did a zillion stupid things last night, but failing to box out on that brick was not one of them, imo.

Yep saddle up, here we come Housten

I thought wiseman actually had one of his best games and didnt try to do too much, still some sloppy play but overall decently solid. This loss is bc of a multitude of reasons but if I have to blame one person it's Kerr. How do you not foul there?!?!

Expand full comment

I'm not even sure Kerr could foul an NBA player at this point, they'd probably just drag him around the court behind them for a while without noticing him.

On the bright side, Wolves lose in OT in a game they were up 17 points, the Spurs and Grizzlies both lost (actually that just makes this L hurt more), and Jessup was a flamethrower in Australia last night.

Expand full comment

Yep, Jessup tying his professional career high and putting together a run of about four high scoring, high efficiency games in a row again. He's also been adding a lot of other stats lately, I think.

Inexcusable loss, we need someone other then draymond to be able to light a fire under this team. Jta seems to be that type of leader who is consistent with communication and accountability, but it kind of throws him under the rug when kerr doesnt even play him (I know he was injured tonight)

Kerr is very liberal when it comes to players but very conservative with X n Os it's kind of weird

Expand full comment

What does it mean, exactly, when one of us calls a loss inexcusable?

Expand full comment

It means the team needs to be held accountable, something needs to change, a firm action needs to be taken

Expand full comment

And yet, if things had gone just a tiny bit differently in the last few minutes, you would be saying something completely different. I don't understand your criteria.

Expand full comment

Wiseman making rookie mistakes is excusable

Warriors losing to a tanking wizards team in which lopez n len combine for 35 on 14-23 while beal is held to 20 on 7-16 is inexcusable.

We need a bigman asap. There's no excuse for this front office to have not added another big to our team yet.

What happens If wiseman or looney goes down with an injury? Well have 1 player on the roster that's over 6'7

Expand full comment

It sounds like you are saying your expectations are not being met and that is not okay. I suggest you consider adjusting your expectations, as you personally have no control over this situation.

Expand full comment

Now, what are we going to do if looney or wiseman gets Injured?

I suggest you either respond to my comments with basketball input or leave me personally out of it. You waited two comments to say that? Talk basketball or leave it alone, just a suggestion

How in the cosmos can we be seeing Wiggins slumping on 3s and FTs while Oubre is shooting well again, with them switching AT THE EXACT SAME TIME AGAIN in the same season? How is it possible? It's not even about the Warriors' season at this point, I just want to understand the science of it!*

* or magic/ancient curse, etc.

Expand full comment

It's all choreographed, like professional wrestling. In reality, everyone can shoot like Steph - the marketing guys just decided he was the one they would choose to be the face of the 3-point revolution.

Expand full comment

Checks out

Expand full comment

It's actually seems unsurprising. I don't feel like a 35% 3PA shooter is going to shoot a consistent 35%. I'd expect it to be 25% and then 45%, and everything between, each for sizeable swaths of time. It's just as unlikely that they'd overlap much.

Expand full comment

It's not that they're merely not overlapping their good shooting, it's that they're perfectly coordinating their bad shooting AND their good shooting.

It's that Wiggins has had a stretch of more than 10 hot shooting games MULTIPLE TIMES THIS SEASON and both times when those stretches ended, Oubre started shooting lights out at the same time. And we're not talking about 45% to 25%, we're talking about 55% to 10%, we're talking about Oubre breaking all time records for a shooting slump in NBA HISTORY and then coming out of it right when Wiggins entered a slump, and then the two of them somehow repeating the same pattern in the second half of the season.

There's... no way that's normal.

Expand full comment

That was tough. 3:00 in we played pretty strong, steals, dunks, well played. Until the Wiggins foul and D.Lee I don’t know what. And usually Wiggins doesn’t make boneheaded fouls and usually D.Lee makes the right decision. Total bummer.

Expand full comment

Not trying to keep harping on draymond but if anything this season has shown his leadership skills aren't nearly where he thinks they are in his head, curry and draymond have both not done a good job leading by example.

How can draymond tell wiseman not to shoot fadeaway midranges when he shot two 1 FOOTED midranges tonight?

Expand full comment

He also looked pretty visibly disgusted when Wiggins missed that wide open three down the stretch, I felt like he probably shouldn't be that open about it

Expand full comment

I would love for our team too add some defense so we can play draymond situationally or atleast less minutes

Expand full comment

It’s not like Draymond is automatic from 3 or something

Expand full comment

But that's not his job. It *is* Wiggins' job.

Though probably it shouldn't be. Kerr has him sitting around the arc way too much imo.

2-9 with 3 turnovers Tonight, did play great defense but so did wiggins

Some low iq ball. Sloppy play

Expand full comment

That ending was destined to be in Random Ending territory and it lived up to it.

Expand full comment

A very true take

Expand full comment

Also that Draymond midrange shot near the end of the game was just undisciplined. If there are over 10 seconds on the shot clock, reset the offense and give the ball back to Curry to attack Bertans or Lopez. Horrible shot by Draymond that ended up really mattering.

Did anyone play a good game besides Oubre?

Expand full comment

Oubre wasn't that good. Hit some threes and his FTs but also was a -13 and had his usual tunnel vision. I thought Wiggins was better, outside of clanging those big FTs and fouling Beal at the end (on an incredibly unlucky bounce right to him in the corner).

Wiseman was good. Net +11, where Steph was a net -29. :-(

Expand full comment

I dunno, thought Oubre played an excellent game personally.

The 0-5 from three hurt, including some wide open ones, but I agree Wiggs was good.

Wiggins 7 REB and 6 AST

Was that the really flat Dray shot? That was bad. He also clanked a free throw off the front of the rim. He's a smart dude, why can't he remember to put some arc on his shots?

I noticed that about that shot as well.

You mean other than JW and Steph (who was solid)? Sure! Mulder, Nico, Payton II, and Smiley had no fouls and no turnovers.

Expand full comment

I can't give Wiseman or Looney credit given how much Len and Lopez were dominating a first half where the Wizards were 1 for 7 from three. I liked how Wiseman played in the fourth but overall I'd only call it a good game if I were grading on a rookie curve.

I suppose Curry was good though, yeah.

Expand full comment

I think you're too hard on Wiseman. He played well overall. Lopez is a savvy vet who has 12 years of NBA experience on JW, and he is something like 35 lbs heavier and very strong. Right now we have no answer for Lopez.

Expand full comment

I mean, I don't think Wiseman was great on D, but I also don't think you can pin Lopez and Len on him.

Seemed like a lot of lopez buckets were on dray as well when they switched
