Though still a few days out, attention is already focused on how much Curry's return can fix for a team in desperate need of help in every aspect of basketball
Aside from the defensive problems, the schedule through the end of the season is pretty tough. The Dubs get the Raptors twice, the Nuggets twice, the Clippers twice, the Lakers twice counting today's game, and the Bucks, Sixers, and Rockets once. The only "easy" games on the schedule are one each against the Cavs, Hawks, Wizards, the Knicks and maybe the Pistons who have pretty much given up on this season. It's going to be a slog to get to 20 wins.
Yeah, the defense is still going to kill them. Wasn't the perimeter defense getting better a few months ago? It's seemed pretty hard to watch since all the trades. Maybe I'm just imagining that there was an improvement for a while, haven't looked at stats.
Just Curry making more 3's than Poole will make the defense better. Instead of a brick and a long rebound, the ball will now splash through the net "Stephortlessly" 18% more of the time, limiting opponents fast break and transition 3 opportunities.
The best defense is offense, well at least in this case.
P.S. SC30 is a much better off ball defender than Poole too.
The main bright spot and entertaining about this season is how earnest and hard working this team has been. It's a kudos to the coaching staff, to Dray's leadership and the young guys how they've kept a focus on improvement while they've been getting their teeth kicked in on the regular.
So I think there's gonna be a lot of energy around Steph returning just to be able to compete and feel like you could win on any given night.
Yea, I could see his potency having a radical effect on the offense, but the defense is a sieve and that needs players who know what they're doing out there. Even when the effort's been there this season, the BBIQ hasn't been. That's what we missed about the dynasty teams, is the way that defense gelled and played together as a unit. We need defensive chops in these lineups almost more than we need shooting, and that's saying something.
