That's a serious question? We get Steph, Klay, Dray, and CP3 at their best? With the best of Loon, Saric, and the others thrown in for good measure? That's a title winner.
Loon posts about Deki. Fitting that they are both laughing in all the pictures he posted. Gotta be rough on Loon, not only dealing with the loss like the rest of the team, but then his daily routine is upended, and every time he warms up with whomever the replacement position coach is will be a reminder. But, Loon seems like he is built to handle it.
Honestly, if we hadn't traded the draft pick, I wouldn't've been opposed to tanking out of their current position for draft position and tradeable assets. There's a lot of rotation players on this team that could bring in worthwhile assets via trade.
Where was it that posted an article that teams with draft picks traded with protections are actually dis-incentivised from tanking this year because everyone values next year’s draft so much more?
There’s a whole long form article about it.
To go for a tank to keep this year’s pick would be to cut against the grain really hard.
It would have to be one helluva tank to get a good chance at top 4. The Hornets, Wiz, Spurs, and Pistons have that pretty locked up without even trying to tank. And neither Steph nor Lacob would accept a hard tank like that.
Nah you lose ur top 1 protected in the 2025 draft (a much much deeper draft). If anything i may be looking to get a late 1st back in this draft from Philly or Miami but I wouldn’t outright tank
What a heck of a trade though. We basically traded this year’s pick for 2022 Wiggins, Kuminga, and Kelly Oubre Jr. i have been critical of Myers drafting but he absolutely got the better end of that deal with the TWolves (with of course the Twolves exacting revenge during the draft a few months later)
I don't remember how that worked. We sent the Wolves DLo plus we dumped filler (Spellman and Evans) for Wiggs, the 7th pick (JK), and a 2021 2nd rounder in the deal too. We sent that 2nd rounder and another one to OKC for Oubre. But I don't remember this year's pick being in either deal. What was that part of the deal?
- Philadelphia looking for a backup veteran PG (possible destination for CP3)
- Dallas might have interest in Wiggs
- Herb Jones said to be available for the right price from NO
- Not mentioned in the link, but some top contender might be interested in GPII or Saric as missing piece off the bench and be willing to return a cheaper role player or other tradable assets.
While I don't have a concrete proposal, plugging in one of JK / Moody (more likely the former) into a multi-team deal with the assets above that nets us Herb Jones or newly-minted backup Jaylin Williams (Arkansas flavor) from OKC would be an intriguing scenario.
Moody v Herb Jones is close to a push for me. Moody better on O, Jones better on D. Might as well stick with the one who’s four years younger (= more upside) and whom we’ve developed over the last 2.5 seasons.
Arkansas Jaylin Wlliams is barely an NBA player, imo. I’m not sure he’s better than Usman Garuba, let alone Moody.
I really, really like Herb Jones, but I have some doubts about how much use this team can make of pure 3&D wings—that is, guys whose only real offensive skill is shooting stand-still corner threes. Just doesn't feel like our offense is set up to accommodate that (which might be one reason we have less shooting than most other teams these days).
Seems like Kerr might have to adjust his offense. Guys who have been here years still struggle with it. A mid-season acquisition would be really have to have that vaunted bbiq to be great at it from the start.
Philadelphia or Miami would be logical choices for both Saric and Paul (Saric in case MDJ decides to not try and reload trade deadline). I think they got matching expiring and a draft pick to make it enticing enough. Lakers would want Paul but they dont have expiring contracts to offer.
I'm not one for trade rosterbation, I really don't feel expert enough to evaluate players like this, and I watch very little NBA other than the Dubs.
But it is sooooo crazy that all the players' salaries are public info. As someone who has done a lot of hiring and management in the business world, the privacy and secrecy of employee salary data makes things so much less drama-filled and complicated. Every compensation conversation is still hard, but it would be vastly worse if all this info were public.
I disagree, but probably because I've always worked in the nonprofit sector. Pay transparency is a vital recruitment tool when everyone is making so much less than private sector counterparts, and questions about benefit/impact vs. indirect costs are at the core of the work.
The NBA is such a weird business though-- does sharing player pay help its antitrust protection somehow? Is it an artifact of the Players' Association and the push for more player control?
Hidden salaries is one of the tools someone can hide unfair pay practices/ as a way to suppress labor unity. There are certainly other reasons to do it, but it's not something I particularly like.
This season is lost. CP3's contract should be allowed to expire for cap relief. The only trade I would even consider would dump Wiggins for expiring/shorter contracts. The Capella trade is intriguing since he fills a need and has only 1 more season on his contract, but Achilles issues make him an injury risk that could leave the Dubs with a $20M training room resident who wouldn't be ready to play at all before that contract expires. Probably better to wait till the off season to make any moves.
Besides CP3's $31M dropping off the books, I think it likely that Klay will not accept that his skills have eroded and will try to get a bag in free agency. I doubt that the Dubs will offer him a whole lot after the way this season has gone. That combination would clear $74M in salary. They'll still be in pretty good shape if Klay accepts reality and signs for a more realistic $15-20M/yr for 2 years which would put him on the same time table as Curry.
Agreed. I think EA is right that Capella is just a slightly taller version of TJD. If we are going to add size, let's get a big that provides spacing. Saric is currently the only one who does this for us, but he really can't defend against true centers without fouling. I wouldn't mind trying someone like Muscala for spot minutes if he became available. We could also use the 15th roster spot to take some flyers on 10-day contracts and see if something can come from them. Better to make little moves now if we must, and then wait to make any trades that sacrifice assets until after our sad season mercifully ends.
I was trying to be generous. $12M seems a bit low. That's not significantly more than the rookie scale for a #1 pick. I agree that he's worth very little if his attitude doesn't change. If he's willing to come off the bench and TRY, he could contribute to a winning team. NOTE: The FO rescinded that $24M offer.
How many firsts do the Warriors have available to trade to make the Nets an offer they can’t refuse? If MDJ pulled that off it’s because he convinced them Warriors picks will be hyper-valuable post Curry and he was willing to trade them unprotected.
Timpf has traded Kuminga and Moody for six solid months. First it was Markkanen, then Siakam, then Jerami Grant, then Siakam some more. I don't even know what works but I begin to wonder if he does.
Really? I think at this point, Kuminga's floor once he reaches his prime will be 3rd/4th starter on a 'chip contendor. Last year, that was Gordon or Porter Jr on the Nuggets. This year, Jrue or Kristapz on the Celtics, or Lopez on the Bucks.
Kuminga's most likely future is 2nd/3rd best player on a 'chip contendor. So like Dray or Wiggs during the 'chip season, KAT for Minny this season. Bridges, if he were on a better team.
And yes, there's a sliver of a chance, JK could develop into the #1 on a 'chip contendor. Doesn't have to be Steph/LeBron/Wemby, but does have to be Tatum/Banchero/Ant/Butler level.
I like Kuminga, but I can't imagine him being a #1 on any team. Too many holes in his toolbox. The Warriors need a # 2 guy to play with Steph as Klay's decline has derailed the Splash Bros. We are on the weak side of any trades being offered. Logic tells me the best moves the Dubs can make is to get off expiring contracts as quickly as possible. CP3 and Klay are the major ones. Wiggs can still be a useful bench player once the team stops thinking that he is a starter. Reformulation is the way to go. Not sure that can be done with any speed.
The season rides on the health of Ste… checks notes. GP2 and Chris Paul? Oh dear.
Weird hypothetical: which would you rather have?
A. Warriors pull off a heist of a trade on a par with Wiggins for D'Angelo Russell, or
B. Warriors players play to their potential, meaning each player on the team simply plays at or near the best we've seen from him?
Option B, but time is running out for that to happen.
Either works.
Which is more likely after the team went through a major trauma?
Since people respond in different ways it’s likely some will elevate in honor but likely not all.
B. Getting 2022 Wiggins would be a game changer, and I'm always attached to the players we already have.
First post in this forum. 30 year warrior fan. Reading this forum since its launch.
I'd alter option B to say ..each player plays to expectations at the beginning of the year...
Otherwise it is a no brainer.
Welcome!
My advice: Take Option B as is. You get unanimous MVP Steph, vintage CP3, 60-pt-game Klay... yeah, take that.
Agree. My suggestion to Asher was to modify option B to make the poll more interesting
That's a serious question? We get Steph, Klay, Dray, and CP3 at their best? With the best of Loon, Saric, and the others thrown in for good measure? That's a title winner.
I just looked back on the 3 top storylines I had coming into the season not named Chris Paul that I shared with @Backpack23
- Saric playing the stretch 5 like Bjeli (👌🏽)
- Kerr's minutes to Moody/Kumi (🤞🏽)
- NBA All-star Andrew Jeffrey Wiggins!! (😳)
I guess Andrew kind of turned into a story line. Like, whatever happened to NBA All-star Andrew Jeffrey Wiggins?? 🤷🏽♂️
"Go Niners! Thank you." ~ Brock Purdy
Yeah turned out well in the end. Champions have to pull out gams like this where you largely get outplayed!
Would acquiring Capella make TJD expendable?
If so, all those on TJD Atoll vote NO.
Also, the two people on Garuba Rock (me being one of them).
PBJ now at 50% (8/16) on threes for the year. Starting to get a little run for the Wizards.
Not looking good for the niners.
This post did not age well
Glad to be wrong lol
And they pull it out in the last minute! Wow
My goodness- this is what happens when a coach thinks he can turn any player into a winner

It’s too 4 protected… so main advantage of tanking is still 100% in play

Interesting summary piece here (via Reddit): https://www.actionnetwork.com/nba/nba-trade-rumors-deadline-agendas-for-all-30-teams

What’s happening in Detroit? Up one in the fourth against the BUCKS?
Bucks pulling away in the end
Poor Pistons…

So you better don’t go to Sweden. There, all salaries are open for everyone to see. And they seem fine with this.
In tanti anni che seguo il basket non avevo mai sentito nessuno lamentarsi che i compensi dei giocatori NBA sono pubblici
Incredibile.

Timpf suggests Kuminga, Moidy and Wiggins for Mikael Bridges and Dorian Finney Smith and I’m intrigued https://youtu.be/R6rxTZoDoew?si=pQ8KleYhbeym8uQQ
How many firsts do the Warriors have available to trade to make the Nets an offer they can’t refuse? If MDJ pulled that off it’s because he convinced them Warriors picks will be hyper-valuable post Curry and he was willing to trade them unprotected.
by the fanspo trade machine, that statistically adds 1 win. Why bother?
Best current player in the deal (Bridges) and Sshorter remaining contracts than Wiggins
Why on earth would the Nets do this?
Mikal Bridges is what ... a top 30-40 player?
At this point, Kuminga and even Moody are unproven quantities. Bridges is already a star.
< woot! I pulled that top 30-40 out of my rear end, and then thought to check ESPN ... he's ranked 33 in their preseason player ranking >
His argument in the vid is that Bridges is not a #1 guy and Kuminga might be.
Ah, OK. The thing is, Bridges is good enough that they could probably use him to swing a trade for a sure #1 guy. It's already happened once (for KD).
Timpf has traded Kuminga and Moody for six solid months. First it was Markkanen, then Siakam, then Jerami Grant, then Siakam some more. I don't even know what works but I begin to wonder if he does.
He seems like he'd be a great coach, poor GM.
I wish I was as high on Kuminga as Jason Timpf is. I think Jason is higher on Kuminga than even our resident Kuminga Stan, Asher.

And yet, he can't wait to get him traded to another team for some reason.
He dislikes the fit with Steph, and Timpf is a huge Steph-stan.
Steph-stan is a declining nation.
