Alc thinks QP starts today. I’ll take it a step further and say he’s our starting center going forward. With his strides (stout defense, rebounding and screen-setting) Kerr is having Zaza/Bogut flashbacks.
Of all the teams in these playoffs, if you told me the Warriors had to trade rosters with one, I think I might choose Indiana. Of course OKC, Boston, and Cleveland would be the obvious choices, and would give you the best chance at a title, but the Pacers just sort of feel like a Golden State roster.
One thing I love about the W’s dynasty is how it sort of retains some DNA from the Don Nelson era—playing fast, playing small, etc. I like the idea that the franchise itself has a certain identity and style of play that persists even as the players turn over.
Always appreciate the nerdiness in your E1P's @eric. There's a certain something in the warp and woof of this community and it's geekdom that goes beyond just another fansite. I never thought there would ever be such a place for an introverted sports nerd like me to hangout in. You are my tribe :)
In this series, the Warriors are 1-0 when Jonathan Kuminga starts, but only 1-1 when Jimmy Butler does. I hope coach Kerr will take a good long look at these analytics when making his rotation decisions. 100% is much better than 50%,
Approximately 25% better, by my calculations. That’s just facts, and I’m tired of coaches who just go with their “gut” or “instinct” or “common sense” Do we want to play a guy in Jimmy Butler who, admittedly, has scored more than Kuminga, more efficiently, outrebounded him, gotten more assists and played better defense, but lost? Thats so shortsighted. The. Goal. Is. To. Win.
I hope we can retain him, because at 22, he still has all star potential. (Yes, why has that not been realised in 4 years? That's not my point, in this post)
I have a question though:
Is the lack of improvement in FT percentage, indicative of a lack of effort? (Or at least not focussing on the right things?)
In other words, have there been many players in history, who started FT% in the 60s and reached 80+? How common is this improvement?
(Shaq, Giannis are superstars, so not much incentive to improve), but what about others?
I feel like the "FT% doesn't improve, not trying!" trope is always brought up, but I'm not sure if it is true. Didn't Shaq famously put in extreme effort to improve it without any positive results? 60 to 80+ I'm sure is rare, the question did make me randomly think of Malone as someone I should look up and see -- he did go .50, .60, .70 first three years and then got to high .70s eventually. Malone of course was a HOF-level scorer/shooter though, so I don't think we can assume because he did it anyone came with enough effort.
I hope Orlando or another East up and coming team gets Giannis because we’re not getting him and I don’t want him to turn another West team into a contender.
If the Timberwolves beat the Lakers in the series, Anthony Edwards will finally start to build a little confidence. Poor guy always doubts himself so. It's OK, Anthony, you're good at basketball. Don't you hide your light under a bushel. In fact, if you want to, ask your teammates to pass the ball to you. You might turn out to be a good scorer, who knows. You're just way too modest, is the problem.
How are people feeling about playing the Wolves or Lakers assuming we can get past the rockets. I have a really hard time rooting for the lakers but they seem like the more flawed/less complete roster and Edwards is pretty scary...
I'd have liked to play the Lakers because of the shorter travel and their worse perimeter defense, but the Warriors have played the Wolves pretty well the last couple of years. The Wolves offense is easier to scheme against even though they have better shooters, they don't have shot creation outside of Ant and Conley whereas Luka and LeBron are terrifying as playmakers. And since I want Steph to get to 5 ahead of LeBron, it will only help if LAL is knocked out in R1.
I can’t quite agree with “don’t have shot creators outside of Ant and Conley.” For one thing, Ant alone is a lot of shot creation. But Randle is out there and creates a lot of his own shot. He has flaws but he also has a ton of moves and the ability to score
Would much rather play Wolves, even though they seem like a tougher matchup. Great atmosphere in their building. DDV is family. Ant is awesome and fun. Steph hunting Gobert. Lakers watching from Cancun. Wolves might find a way to beat us. They might not. Either way it will be epic. Sign me up. (But gotta dispatch Rox first. Long way to go.)
Completely rather play the Lakers. Steph is our key and when he's guarded by Reaves and Luka he has a whole level of possibilities that being guarded by McDaniels and NAW. Obviously we are getting ahead of ourselves and obviously people have feeling reasons for which team they want to play, but I would say this: If you're a neutral bettor, and I put the Warrior-LAL matchup in front of you or the Warrior-Minnesota matchup, and you're smart, I think you put money on the Warriors only in the former matchup.
Wolves have a way scarier offense since they have seven guys who can reliably hit three pointers: Ant, Conley, McDaniels, Randle, NAW, DDV, and Reid. Lakers have only four: Reaves, Luka, Lebron, and Rui.
I'd prefer to play the Wolves so I don't have to watch Luka complaining on every play and Reaves flopping. And I'm guessing Draymond would be pretty fired up to help his squad run (four-time) DPOY Rudy Gobert off the floor. No need for a chokehold when your opponent is on the bench.
It doesn’t matter to me, of course you wanna play the more flawed team, but those teams don’t usually make it past the first round, and that team is now down 1-3
That's how I feel. Lakers may have a better offense than the Rockets, but their defense is way worse. Plus, the Wolves have depth while the Lakers don't.
Another great E1P. Just *love* that "switch-places" dance to make the lane wider. Run that again L'll Bro Podz! And LOL when Amen hits the brakes and Moody overshoots so much he winds up in the crowd. But *ahem* I'm not sure League of Legends is a good enough game for any dub to be associated with. After some consideration, it seems clear to me that GPII is, in fact, Link. Give him a Korok leaf and a Lynel Crusher and enjoy his Back-Flip Flurry-Rush. He eats Demon Kings for breakfast. I know I'm right coz I just confirmed this with a 16-year old.
(And if you don't know what I'm talking about then you have missed out. Set aside 100+ of your most precious hours during the off-season...)

SC/BP/JB/DG/QP
I still think in most cases, we should stick to the small ball lineup. But against a huge team like Houston, having that extra size is crucial.
Yeah, small ball only works if you can get stops & the defensive board. Doesn't work well with an offensive-rebounding monster like Houston

Kuminga has had stretches of a month or two when the FT rate is notably higher, maybe 75%? Then went back down with the injury. So who knows

Butler says that he is Robin while Steph is Batman. I think a better comparison would be the Mario Bros.. Curry is Mario while Butler is Luigi.
Or, according to Warriors haters, Wario and Waluigi.
Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing.
DG is Bowser?
Donkey Kong
GP2 diddy kong
Haha i like this one. (head scratches)
I hope Orlando or another East up and coming team gets Giannis because we’re not getting him and I don’t want him to turn another West team into a contender.
Atlanta to run PnR with Trae?
Orlando would be a horrible destination for Giannis.
WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE HIM GO TO THE LAKERS? I DONT CARE ABOUT FIT. STAY IN THE EAST.
HE WILL GO TO THE LAKERS FOR BASICALLY NOTHING, SO WHATEVER!
Im watching that Bucks off season situation like a vulture
Pacers rout the Bucks 129-103 and go up 3-1 in the series.
I am hoping for a Leroy Jenkins reference in a future E1P.
Lmaooo
No, it’s Leeeeerrrooooooooyyyy!

Doesn't matter, Dubs can beat either team. You play who you play
I like watching L.A. teams lose and don’t want LeBron to get another ring before Steph.

Good attitude

Plus, the Wolves are #5 in net rating post-ASB (#3 offense, #12 defense) while the Lakers are #15 (#17 offense, #17 defense).

I don't like the travel but whatever. It is what it is until this dumb Minnesota team goes to the East.
I'd rather play an honorable team than watch Reaves flop his way to thrice as many FTs as Steph
It doesn’t matter to me, of course you wanna play the more flawed team, but those teams don’t usually make it past the first round, and that team is now down 1-3

Curry's defense on the Rockets

I always root for Giannis out east, but Indiana may be too much for them Buckaroos, especially with Dame out now.
If Giannis asks out, where can he possibly go, and would it be a west team?
He should stay in the East, unless he wants to join Steph
Just watching some of yesterday's post-game interviews...FVV seems like a good dude. I'll just have to workaround him as I direct my Rockets loathing.
Yeah, I saw him and Steph laughing together after FVV was called for a foul. I imagined the dialog went something like:
FVV: "WTF, I do that all night and _now_ they call it?"
Steph: "Well, this time it was right in his line of sight to the ball"

The only way Zelda gets mentioned is if any key character names have a bad lipread as a curse word
