LJ Cryer went for 26 vs Duke in Final Four with 6-9 from 3 as they beat Duke with all their stars.

Probably already mentioned 5 x.

Richard went for 18 in the final vs Houston.

Just sayin you gotta be a player to do that on the biggest stage under the greatest pressure.

We will find out soon.

After seeing the success of APRIBOT and considering that none of us have ever seen Eric in person, I decided to ask Gemini if it was sure that "Eric Apricot" was not an advanced AI programmed for sardonic and arcane references.

Here is Gemini's reply:

Yes, I am sure that Eric Apricot is a real person. The search results clearly indicate:

He is listed as a co-founder of DubNationHQ.com, a real website with a team of contributors.

He is described as the "Cult-favorite creator of long-running Explain One Play series."

He has established presences on platforms like YouTube, Substack, BlueSky, and Threads, where he posts content, interacts, and is referenced by other human creators (e.g., in podcasts and collaborations).

His content often includes in-depth analysis and original thought, which is characteristic of human expertise rather than generative AI (which typically synthesizes existing information).

There's no credible information anywhere suggesting he is an AI. In fact, his bio on Dub Nation HQ explicitly lists him as one of the "People" on their team.

The fact that he doesn't show his face is a personal choice or a stylistic decision for his content, not an indicator that he is an AI. Many real people maintain online anonymity for various reasons.

Combine heights in bare feet:

Alex Toohey 6’-7.75” (+3 wingspan)

Cooper Flagg 6’-7.75” (+4.25 wingspan)

Ace Bailey 6’-7.5” (+4.75 wingspan)

That’s solid jumbo wing / PF size. They used to call guys Toohey’s size 6’-9”.

Alex Toohey (Age: 21.1) report by Sam Vecenie (Prospect Ranking 38):

TL;DR: Questionable scoring ability, very good defensive player, great fit with what Warriors player asked to do on offense (get the ball to shooters).

Strength:

● Measures at 6 feet 7.75 with a 6-foot-10.75 wingspan. Has an 8-foot-8.5 standing reach. Strong measurements for a combo wing. His frame has also filled out substantially over the last year.

● His feel for the game and understanding of how to move within flow is what stands out most. As a young player on a veteran Sydney team, he became indispensable by making the right decisions at the right times on both ends of the court. Plays hard consistently. Has a high-level motor. Active and engaged on both ends of the court.

● Sharp team defender. Knows exactly where he needs to be at all times. Rotates very well across the back line. Constantly tagging the roll man when he has to do so. Can recover out to the corner and wings using his length. Also knows how to stay big and defend weak-side one-on-two situations. Disruptive with his timeliness to get to the right spots. Very aware and engaged on defense. Consistently points and talks to his teammates to let them know where to be and where he is. Gets around screens off the ball and stays tight to his man.

● Good hands. Seems to have sharp hand-eye coordination to get deflections and steals. Great timing. Uses his length well and is always engaged. Gets his hands into passing lanes well. Also does a good job of getting his hands up and contesting shots for potential blocks. Has a sense of anticipation on the defensive end overall.

● Showed switchability in the NBL. Had to guard perimeter players often this year because of Sydney’s starting lineup construction. Defended well at the point of attack at times. Shows some early ability to get over screens, but that will continue to be a point of emphasis. Stays active with his feet. Can cut off drives and uses angles well. Excellent at sliding and directing players into help. Would also slide down and guard fours fairly regularly. Even dealt well with a number of post fives in the NBL, forcing them off of their spot on the block then staying tall with his hands high to contest. I think he has a chance to be impactful defensively.

● I buy Toohey becoming a shooter off the catch in time. The jumper isn’t there yet, and that’s the main offensive skill he will bring to the table eventually. I buy the mechanics in spot-up situations. Very simple and repeatable. Always has great shot prep when spotting up. Feet are aligned. Shows some potential with no-dip 3s with very quick releases.

● Makes decisions quickly on offense in way that will help him being a fourth or fifth option on the court. If he has the open 3, he quickly takes it. If he doesn’t, he’ll move it back out with a quick reversal or attack the defender’s closeout. Had some positive moments getting downhill toward the basket and shows some flashes of creative finishes on the interior using his length to extend. Good at attacking the top foot and playing in straight lines by using his stride length to cover ground. Got better with his deceleration step around the rim to separate and also had a few impressive moments showcasing bend for his size. Had some positive grab-and-go moments transitioning defense to offense. Wasn’t a great finisher this year but has some room for growth if he can add strength.

● That ability to make quick decisions extends to his passing. Really good at throwing the quick reversals and making extra passes along the perimeter chain to get more open shots. Diagnoses where defenders are in his head quickly and then makes good choices. He averaged only 1.3 assists per game because he’s not a drive-and-kick player, but he reads the court well and f inds his teammates when they’re available.

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT:

● Not a very good athlete by NBA standards, and it shows up in multiple ways. Scouts have significant questions about his speed and whether it will be up to NBA level. Also doesn’t have a ton of vertical explosiveness. Typically has to load up off two feet to access it, meaning that even when he does go and dunk, it’s not very functional in half-court settings. Not all that fast-twitch.

● Contact balance isn’t awesome yet. Needs to get stronger through his lower half to be able to best access his game on both ends of the court.

● The jumper is going to be Toohey’s main swing skill. Can he consistently make 3s from a standstill in the corners? Can he add to that and become a movement shooter? So far, he hasn’t done either regularly. Made just 25 percent from 3 last season and 30 percent from 3 this season. Has a forward lean on the shot off the catch when he’s shooting from a standstill. The ball is inconsistent coming out of his hand in terms of release point and follow-through. Trajectory on the shot is not always the same. Sometimes hangs onto it too long and ends up shooting a flatter ball. Sometimes will shoot a moonball with a high arc. Feels like the lower-body strength factor sometimes comes in here, as he’ll occasionally have a deeper bend into the shot and other times it’s not as deep.

● Takes the shot off more of a 1-2 step that can lead to him taking longer to get the shot off. Results in him getting closed out on too much and taking more contested opportunities. Made a couple of 3s off movement laterally this year, relocating down to the corners or up to the wings. I don’t feel great about how quickly he gets the shot off in those situations. I don’t think he’ll be a guy who creates open 3s with movement off screens. He might never be a pull-up shooter. That has never been a part of his game.

● So if he doesn’t shoot off the catch, what else can he do on offense? I buy him attacking closeouts, but he’s not going to be a self-creator. Doesn’t have the first step to get by his man one-on-one from a standstill. Has some shake to confuse defenders who are running toward him but not enough to create a shot in isolation. Not tight ballhandler. Can get loose with it on his drives. His lack of lower half strength gets exposed right now; if a defender recovers in front of him and he picks up his dribble, he can sometimes get in trouble and either launch up a low-probability shot or throw an errant pass.

● Was not nearly as good of a finisher as you’d hope this year. Much more finesse than power because he doesn’t have that lower-half strength or elite contact balance. Lack of vertical pop could hinder him unless he becomes elite with his footwork and length extension. Made only 53 percent of his half-court attempts at the rim. Doesn’t explode upward through contact with power. Typically has to maneuver around players which makes things inherently harder. Had a few concerning moments this year where he got blocked in transition in a one-on-one situation by a smaller player. The good news here is that Sydney was not a well-spaced team this year and Toohey actually did have success at times navigating those bodies on the interior. The Kings made only 33.8 percent of their 3s this year, meaning teams were happy to clutter the lane against them and try to load up to stop their star forward Xavier Cooks. It’s possible that getting into a more cohesive offensive situation with a well-spaced court could really help Toohey with his straight-line driving ability that allows him to slice through defenses.

● Evaluators worry about Toohey’s transition to the NBA on defense because of his lack of footspeed. He moves better laterally than he does north-south, but he’s not fast. Occasionally got blown by in a straight line against NBL guards. Can get out-leveraged a bit with his higher hips at 6-foot-8 against smaller players. Will need to work on consistently getting lower and playing with more bend. Also needs to stop hopping into his closeouts. It seems to be a consistent theme with Australian prospects that they jump to the ball in closeouts, and you can’t do that at the professional level and especially not in the NBA. Toohey needs to stride out into them to not lose his momentum. Has the look of a good team defender versus a great overall defender.

Having just watched some video of him, I don’t think I’m particularly worried about his athleticism. He switches hips smoothly, can get into a decently wide stance (although needs to do so more consistently), and isn’t a plodder at all, so I think NBA conditioning and growing into his body more will yield enough improvements in footspeed and athleticism for him to stay in front of smaller guys, given his defensive feel.

I also see him loading off of one foot well enough, I think improving that further is just a matter of strength & conditioning. Unlike, for example, TJD (this drives me crazy about Trayce), he’s willing to jump off of one foot and does it pretty smoothly.

After watching the video I see no reason Toohey can’t improve as a shooter and also get stronger and hopefully a bit more explosive with training.

His shot is pretty good form wise. Not funky at all.

Can he get a little bit quicker and improve his vertical a couple inches? We will see.Possible.

He can refuse to sign the Jazz contract offer, but the Jazz will own his rights for one year. Vecenie had Toohey at 38 and Richard at 78.

Vecenie wrote a full 2 pages on Toohey, but his summary is:

"SUMMARY: I like Toohey’s overall feel for the game, especially on the defensive end of the court. He knows how to play and makes quick decisions on top of being more disruptive than you’d expect. He seems to be in the right spot defensively and showed the ability to guard multiple positions this year. Ultimately, I am worried enough about the offense that I couldn’t give him a high grade. I think he’ll probably make standstill 3s at some point with how the ball comes out of his hand, but I worry that he’ll never be a volume 3-point shooter who finds them from different situations to derive value. If that’s the case, he’s going to have to be elite at attacking closeouts and making rapid decisions on the court, while getting the most out of his defensive game. There is a pathway toward him being an impactful NBA player, for sure. I just worry that it’s a bit narrow in scope and that the upside is more of a pure rotation player off of the bench."
