I can't figure out what statement the Thunder were trying to make with the exact imitation Warriors throwback uniforms. Plus, against the background of that garish floor, it was real hard to see those guys on the TV. Somebody ought to let them know.
I was initially watching the game on my phone and was confused until I realized we were in road whites. Is it just me or did that graphic look like a backgammon board?
I'm not sure. It's been 40+ years since I've played backgammon; does anyone these days? Anyway, I thought the Thunder wearing the Warriors throwback jerseys from the days of the Warriors mascot Thunder was, well, way too oblique for most of us.
I've been a fan a long time and only vaguely remember thunder, jumping off a trampoline, I think. I forgot the birth of the OKC Thunder was his demise!
Yeah, MB will always have a good nose for whatever the old guard cooks up. Plus, I bet the Kings players are especially motivated during the GSW matchup.
According to the scoreboard, Kings bench did a lot better than the Rockets bench. Their starters, however, were awful. Rockets starters outscored the Kings starters 93-42. For the Kings, Barnes was their leading scorer, and Sabonis had 5 TOs despite having a double-double. Dillon Brooks was the leading scorer in the game!
Story has it that Daryl Morey turned down a proposed Simmons for Fox and Halliburton trade a couple of years back because the Sixers weren't getting enough value in return.
To be fair he did make one of the best teams to not make a finals, and idk who would predict Fox would blossom like he has over the past couple years. I'm very biased about Tyrese
Really happy that Podz and even more so TJD have been recalled. But why jack them around like that, sending them to the G-League training camp on a Friday for some "great drill work, scrimmage time" and recalling them the very next day? They had probably just unpacked in Santa Cruz and had to pack up again and hop on the next fight. Maybe that's the drill work Kerr was thinking of.
It's not like Santa Cruz is a long journey away. Inconvenient to have to turn back around, but I bet neither guy was at all bothered by getting back up to the big club so quickly.
I'd agree with Podz I think. He's young enough that having some reps might help him, and getting real data on his shot to calibrate it for the NBA makes a lot of sense given his hesitancy I think?
If something unspeakable happens, we have CoJo for a game and could bring him up. TJD probably needs the reps a little less given how he's looked. I also wouldn't have sent him down in the first place tbh
Agree. Podz could use some reps... TJD looks ready. Must be a bit disheartening too to put up a near-double-double against Zion and Valancunias and then get shipped to the G-League (a 0.2 second cameo against the Kings notwithstanding)
A bit of a surprise they made this kind of mistake, but they probably felt there was something in the SCW camp that would really help both TJD and Podz.
They certainly should have checked with Dray and Steph that they were OK with just Garuba and Robinson for deep bench help, though.
Makes sense to recall Podz because of Klay. TJD was recalled a few hours earlier than Podz with no one else seemingly injured. Maybe Dray's comments had something to do with it.
I guess they're a bit short-handed with Vanderbilt and Hachimura out. They're playing an 8-man rotation with LeBron supposedly on a minutes restriction...
It seems that Kerr wanted to take time off from the NBA but decided against it because of the veteran players. I guess he and Meyers must be burnt out. Don’t blame them.
You see how much greyer Steve is now compared to when he started? We've also had a lot of unnecessary drama that I'm sure added to the fatigue and burning out - just like in our own lives
Thinking like this is sane. The solution is straightforward. Give Kenny Atkinson and some of the other coaches a chance to coach a few games. Then, let the players do the game prep/coaching for a few more - just pretend that Kerr is coaching so they don't create the kind of fuss they got the last time they did it.
So, what do we think ... they sign Gay on Tuesday, waive him on Wednesday, and go back to 13 active?
Do the cost savings thing another couple of weeks, then sign him again? Seems like it's better to get all that cost savings crap out of the way now, and let Gay (or whoever it is) be active for the remainder of the season. We're doing fine right now, and we're healthy.
As I understand it from Slater when they announced they were starting with 13, you only get 28 days total with 13 active. If they use that all up early, then they may be stuck if they want to do a trade that sends out more than they are taking back, because they can't drop to 13 again and then sort it out. Also, kinda bad player relations to do that to Player 13, unless they are told very clearly up front what the deal is.
Nuggets are currently playing their 5th game in 7 nights. During that span, they've crushed the Thunder on the road, beat the Jazz at home, lost to the T-Wolves by a lot in Minnesota, and beat the Mavericks. They have a game against the Bulls at home tonight.
TJD has been recalled. Good. I wanted to see him play at least one of the games in the B2B on Sunday and Monday. TJD could be useful against the Cavs and the Pistons bigs.
Watching highlights from the last game, Saric got clobbered on his back when he stepped through for a layup. No foul call. Is there something in the refs playbook that just encourages them to not call fouls on the Warriors' opposition?
Having watched Curry being knocked to the floor on several three-point plays with no foul called, I was curious to know why there were no fouls called. Does he splay his legs more than he used to? Does he lean into the defender? Does the defender not step into his landing zone? It was hard to understand.
So I went back to watch the 2017 finals game five to compare with his current shooting form. It has definitely changed. Back then his form was much tighter. He didn’t land, most of the time, with his legs outstretched to the side or the front the way he does now, but his body was more compactly vertical.
Curry once commented that we have no idea how much energy it takes to shoot a three-point shot. Does it take less energy to shoot the way he does now? Does he get a better shooting percentage now from using his body differently?
Maybe somebody who knows about basketball shooting can explain this to me?
From Chapter 7, Section 4 of the official NBA Officials’ Handook:
When officiating a Golden State Warriors game and a Warrior is observed being obviously fouled, quickly pull out your Official NBA Dice. If you roll snake eyes, call the foul. Otherwise, it should be considered a “no call” unless you’d prefer to arbitrarily call it on the Warriors player, in which case you’re encouraged to do so.
With the parent club and allowed to be integrated to the lineup matchup dependent while Santa Cruz frees up the starting Center spot for Garuba. Everyone will be the better for it. Also bring along quinones to fill the bench mob celebration role. Another year middling in the G League not gonna do much for him. At end of 50 games either sign him with that 15th spot or release him.
@MontePooleNBCS
Warriors recall rookie big man Trayce Jackson-Davis from G-League Santa Cruz. Adds size/presence to the NBA bench
It's a little strange, TBH. Garuba actually *needs* to be at the SCW camp, since it's clear that's where he's going to start out. Instead, TJD was in SC, and Garuba was in OKC.
Getting him some additional training camp run would probably be nice… but the upcoming tough road stretch coupled with the need for backup size behind Loon makes him needed with the parent club indeed
Something that might have gone a bit under the radar is I think Curry is on a minutes restriction coming off the bench... As a cheerleader. He used to be the playful pranking rebel rouser, often slipping or pumping the crowd up, but I think the training staff have said "you NEED to conserve your energy when you're on the bench". Maybe it happened last year and no one really took the reigns (especially on the road games) but this year they are pointing back at the bench and there's a real playful vibe effort especially from the end of the bench warmers. EA's analytical Celebration Audits clearly being taken more seriously.

Lakers with LeBron on the floor tonight: 35 minutes, +12
Without LeBron: 13 minutes, -31
Oof.
Suns lost, Laker lost, and Kings will lose tonight.
Everyone copies Golden State. The Lakers are starting to look suspiciously like last season's Warriors. Home 3-0; Away 0-3.
Lots of upsets tonight, maybe the Bulls will beat, ... ah ... never mind
Not a Kings hater, but just an observation that it is harder to win when your stars are out with injuries, which they mostly avoided last year.
Kings somehow did pretty well against us despite them missing Fox. Seems like reality hit them.
Mike brown effect - as long he is their coach and Kerr ours those games will be close
Yeah, MB will always have a good nose for whatever the old guard cooks up. Plus, I bet the Kings players are especially motivated during the GSW matchup.
Klay's game winner broke them. :-)
I hear the team psychiatrist is fully booked.

For the Kings, Barnes was their leading scorer, and Sabonis had 5 TOs despite having a double-double. Dillon Brooks was the leading scorer in the game!
Fugly
Underdogs keeping it interesting! Boston up 91-88 after three quarters on Brooklyn. Chicago leads Nuggets 40-37 in 2nd inning. Hm!
Kings down 82-96 to Houston with under 4 mins to go in the 4th
Whoa, Haliburton unleashed tonight: 43 points (and counting) on 21 fga. As well he shoots, I always wonder why he doesn’t launch more.
Story has it that Daryl Morey turned down a proposed Simmons for Fox and Halliburton trade a couple of years back because the Sixers weren't getting enough value in return.
💀💀💀💀💀
...
To be fair he did make one of the best teams to not make a finals, and idk who would predict Fox would blossom like he has over the past couple years. I'm very biased about Tyrese
Yeah, hindsight is 20-20... And Fox and Haliburton to go with Embiid would just be unfair.
Are you tired?
I would be after putting up 43 on 21 (and not having Curry's unyielding stamina)
Really happy that Podz and even more so TJD have been recalled. Likely has to do with guys being banged up and potentially out for upcoming games
I'd agree with Podz I think. He's young enough that having some reps might help him, and getting real data on his shot to calibrate it for the NBA makes a lot of sense given his hesitancy I think?

I understand that. But recalling them the very next day is poor planning.
They screwed up. Draymond called them on it.
A bit of a surprise they made this kind of mistake, but they probably felt there was something in the SCW camp that would really help both TJD and Podz.
They certainly should have checked with Dray and Steph that they were OK with just Garuba and Robinson for deep bench help, though.
Kinda fits with Kerr's "slowly-slowly" approach with rookies. Dray taking a stand on this is pretty cool I think.
I'm sure they would have preferred he do it privately. I thought that was kind of odd.
Klay unexpectedly got tripped is probably part of it.
As I said elsewhere, why not just have them do he drill work on the road - not as easy but leaves flexibility of having them available
And I think they're just lumping the two together otherwise like others have said TJD prob needs less seasoning than Podz (mainly his shot)
Drill work probably means practicing sets with a full squad. Doubt the team would run through drill work on the rest day between road games.
Makes sense to recall Podz because of Klay. TJD was recalled a few hours earlier than Podz with no one else seemingly injured. Maybe Dray's comments had something to do with it.
Yeah, that was interesting... maybe he was just saying out loud what the rest of the team felt.
Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero are beating up on LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Up 16 at halftime. You hate to see it.
Is the Lakers defense really this bad?
I guess they're a bit short-handed with Vanderbilt and Hachimura out. They're playing an 8-man rotation with LeBron supposedly on a minutes restriction...
To what demon will the Lakers FO supplicate this year so that the team is good at the trade deadline?
How? Wasn't it pretty good end of last year? Is it all because Vanderbilt is hurt? Most same guys aside from shroeder(sp)
You hate to see it.. wish it was by 32
Podz has been recalled as well.
https://twitter.com/WarriorsPR/status/1720947116267221490
Makes sense with Klay being questionable and the back-to-back coming up.
It seems that Kerr wanted to take time off from the NBA but decided against it because of the veteran players. I guess he and Meyers must be burnt out. Don’t blame them.

How about Andre ??
Employing a guy as head coach who specifically said last year that he didn't want to be a coach strikes me as a longshot. :)
Plus, you really want him with the keys to the file cabinet that has the coaches' notes on all the players? I don't.
Not employed by the team
Guest conductor? Lol

It’s also allowed to be at 13 for 2 weeks at a time.

TJD dropping a cool 14-10-5 while Wiseman watches from the bench *chefs kiss
Just saw this as well, I kinda figured he would be.

Protects ankles
Thanks. So splaying the legs protects the ankles. Does that mean that there is more need to protect the ankles now than there was when he was younger?
Also, I’m still not clear why they didn’t call these as fouls. . He was on his butt over and over again.

How soon they forget… The technical foul Curry got this fall for dancing around and gesticulating on and off the court to celebrate a teammate’s play.
(FYI on TJD Atoll no one will be required to use apostrophes.)
(FYI-2, the crowd in Oracle was fabulous.
It could also be that he doesn't need to hype everyone up now that the bench is back to being fun
