I wonder if getting the Mavs involved as a 3rd team in a deal for PG (if re signing Klay is dead and he wants to go to DAL) would be possible? Becomes a question of what DAL and LAC get back and why would DAL entertain it? Guessing both teams would get players and/or draft picks from us, but maybe DAL wants to unload some salary to LAC?
Just spit ballin.
Now discuss! (Or shoot me down and tell me I’m crazy)
A couple of those "anonymous NBA insider" accounts are saying George to the Warriors is a done deal and they are just looking for a third team to facilitate it, but when all you need to do is delete your account if you are wrong rather than suffer a reputational hit it's pretty hard to take you seriously. Especially after the 2019 offseason where those types of accounts swore that Kawhi was going to the Lakers, shout out "Arye Abraham" and "RDAmbition".
It's clear that some sort of trade is going to happen involving Wiggins after the Olympics thing though. I hope Moody and TJD can make it through the reckoning.
A lot of stuff seems to be wound up in PG13 opting into his last year today.
Does he really have a choice?
Who could realistically sign him at $50 mil/yr as a free agent (which is basically what he's looking for), if he decided to opt out?
Not sure where to get up-to-date cap space numbers that are trustworthy (after assuming likely moves from each team ... not just present day with all cap holds).
If it happens, we can't say that they haven't telegraphed it clearly enough. I feel like we've been getting prepared (by both sides) for the likelihood of Klay leaving.
It makes me sad too, though I've gotten used to the idea to the degree that if he stays, I'm low-key worried about how he'll handle that. I love rooting for the guy, but I would not care for the sulking, me-first, need-to-prove-that-I've-still-got-it version of KT which has rared its ugly head at times.
I'd agree with those but would add Marichal. Now, we're talking SF Giants. NY Giants would add too many other possibilities, most of which none of us saw.
Obviously it's summer training clips but at JK's movement looks a little more fluid especially on his shot. Nice to see him work on his defense too lol
Not entirely sure but it looks like he might be shooting a bit less squared-up to the rim, which if true is very good. Klay has a pretty squared up shot, but otherwise the majority of good shooters have their hips at an angle to rim, and I think if Kuminga is more angled it’ll help smooth out his motion.
JK will definitely have to develop more. A lot will depend on where and how Kerr plays him and who are his floor mates. Moving Wiggins could allow him to play at SF and see more minutes.
Yes, more than a tad, and it's great to see him drilling shooting off motion, which he has not done in games I've seen. If he gets even decent at that he will fit Kerrball much better and be much more dangerous in that system. Would love to see more clips of his work on defensive footwork and awareness - getting screened off the ballhandler was one of JK's weaknesses this past season.
The Hawks traded Murray to NO so I don't expect they will trade Young. That would be a suicide move. I thought the Murray trade to NO was a steal for NO.
The Hawks got back Larry Nance Jr., E.J. Liddell and Dyson Daniels plus the Lakers' first round pick in 2025, plus the least favorable 2027 first round pick between the Pelicans and the Milwaukee Bucks. I don't know if the picks are protected. That's not a bad return.
It seems like it unless those picks turn out to have value. I do like Nance but the other two seem like filler. Then again, I haven't seen either of 'em that I can recall.
I'm not sure what to make of this silly tiff between the Warriors' front office and Team Canada regarding Wiggins' participation in the Olympic games, but neither side comes out looking good from this. The Warriors' front office should have no business preventing any player from playing for their national team, least of all the Olympics. Team Canada should not be pointing fingers at basketball franchises for any player's non-participation, since by no franchise can actually prevent players from playing for their countries.
But at the center of it all sits Andrew Wiggins. Ultimately, the decision is his. As said, nothing prevents him from playing for Canada. If he chooses not to, he could at least not take the cowardly step of hiding in the shadows and have the front office make excuses for him. As it is, this is nothing new, he has not played for Canada since 2021. In that time, the commitment from the likes of SGA - Canada's best player by far, Brooks, Alexander-Walker, Dort, Olynyk, Powell, Barrett, etc. have never been in question.
Unfortunately, I think what we have in Wiggins unfortunately is quite simply a low key diva, in the mold of Kawhi Leonard, except a far lesser player. Someone who continuously needs me time, time offs, time outs, whatever. Hopefully they trade him soon.
Andrew Wiggins has taken a fair amount of criticism for his play on the Warriors last season, including possibly coming in out of shape, and/or rehabbing a lingering injury.
He seems to be quite a private person. There is no way I can speculate on what he is experiencing or thinking about his summer basketball priorities. Play for Canada or prepare for the NBA season? If he and the Warriors discussed this and came to an agreement I have no issue with that. If he feels that playing for Canada is more important to him, that is fine. Yes, it is his decision to make.. and I can understand why it might not be so easy for him. I can not hold that against him.
Amid a growing belief leaguewide that Thompson's relationship with the Golden State Warriors is irretrievable, strong mutual interest between Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks is expected when free agency opens Sunday evening, league sources tell The Stein Line.
With the Warriors and Thompson nowhere close to a contract agreement after a tumultuous season marked by fractious negotiations, multiple sources have indicated that the Mavericks are likely to emerge as the favorite to sign the shooting guard whose Splash Brothers backcourt partnership with Stephen Curry helped the Warriors win four championships in a span of eight seasons from 2014-15 through 2021-22.
Dallas completed a trade Friday with Detroit, after The Stein Line revealed talks between the teams Tuesday (full Twitter thread here), to send Tim Hardaway Jr. into the Pistons' salary cap space in exchange for Quentin Grimes. The Mavericks had to surrender three future second-round picks in the swap to get the Pistons' assistance, but the trade is expected to create sufficient flexibility for Dallas to extend a multiyear offer to Thompson that can compete with other suitors.
It's possible that Mavericks won't be able to re-sign Derrick Jones Jr. after he announced that he will sign with Klutch Sports. So the Mavs will have to use the MLE to sign Klay.
However if Mavs will start and close games with Klay, I can see Klay not caring about the money.
It be a pretty bad off season if PG doesn't happen, we get nothing for CP3, Klay leaves and Wiggs is supremely unhappy and wants out. Might as well trade Dray also in that case.
Nah Iguodala stated from Day One it was Business only. klays situation more akin to Java le McGee when he signed with the Lakers for league minimum because we refused to offer him the mini MLE
Klay is worth way more than JaVale ever was to a team that needs shooting. I doubt he needs to (or will) settle for $12.5M. But hey, we'll find out soon enough.
The San Antonio Spurs and guard Devonte Graham are moving the guarantee date on his contract back to July 8.
Graham has $2.85 of his $12.65 million salary already guaranteed for 2024-25. The rest was set to guarantee on July 1 and now that's pushed back a week.
This is hilarious. I don't know if the Knicks will ever win a championship with that core but I do know they'll be entertaining as hell to watch on and off the court

Lol. Every year…and those chuckle heads will stick around another year with their account if they somehow turn out to be right
Even still, looking for the 3rd team can be a huge deal breaker in any potential trade.
Call me skeptical…but there’s no doubt Mike is pushing for the trade

Basically just Philly if being realistic.

Both the Warriors and Clippers have yet to agree to any deal, sources from both sides told
@ClutchPoints
. No deal has been finalized or agreed to at this very moment.
The Warriors have made it known that they have strong interest in Paul George with Klay Thompson likely gone.
Makes me sad thinking about Klay not being on the team. Boo!
If it happens, we can't say that they haven't telegraphed it clearly enough. I feel like we've been getting prepared (by both sides) for the likelihood of Klay leaving.

Monte Poole follows ClutchPoints so I'm assuming they're pretty reliable
RIP Orlando Cepeda. You ask me to name two Giants I’d say Willie Mays then Barry Bonds. Three? Orlando Cepeda.
Cepeda was one of their best, RIP.
My 3 all time are Mays, Bonds, McCovey
I'd agree with those but would add Marichal. Now, we're talking SF Giants. NY Giants would add too many other possibilities, most of which none of us saw.
Somebody needs to wrap Marichal in a bubble ASAP
Going to bed dreaming of a Steph-Moody-PG-JK-Draymond death lineup.

Still 21 — more than five years younger than Lindy Waters III. Sooo much upside on both ends of the floor…
JK will definitely have to develop more. A lot will depend on where and how Kerr plays him and who are his floor mates. Moving Wiggins could allow him to play at SF and see more minutes.
I'm hoping to see him take a leap in his 4th year like Jaylen Brown did.
Seems like his release is a tad bit quicker too

Just saw that the Hawks got the Laker 2025 pick. Surely the Hawks would try to maximize that pick and not trade Young to the Lakers then, right?

I’d rather have a bag of balls than DeJounte Murray, and that return seems better than a bag of balls?
For me, it's an outright steal for NO.
It seems like it unless those picks turn out to have value. I do like Nance but the other two seem like filler. Then again, I haven't seen either of 'em that I can recall.
I like Nance, too, but checking through his metrics, he is underwhelming.
Seems like the Hawks would expect a haul back for Young. That might be more important.

Please: trade him.
Yes: lame. If he’s injured, don’t play. If he’s not, go ahead and shut up about it.
I don't know man. I wouldn't mind LQ back on a cheap deal. He's a nice plug and play type of player. Plus his attitude was great last year.
I think Lindy Waters is basically a better version of LQ
At this point, LQ is just a body to fill the roster. He needs to be traded to get a fair shot at getting regular play.
Since LQ won't get the QO he'll be an UFA and we're SOL
Depends on what shakes out in the next few days we may have no choice

If Klay is going, I wish he'd go to the eastern conference...
And how much would the Mavs be able to pay Klay?

Do we know that Wiggins is unhappy and wants out? I haven't heard that one...
We know he intended to play on Canada's Olympic team and the Warriors blocked him.
And Klay wants a multi year deal.
