Warriors second-year center James Wiseman (meniscus) was cleared Friday to increase individual on-court workouts, according to the team. He will likely need 4-6 weeks of conditioning once his recovery advances to full-contact practices. He’ll be evaluated again Nov. 1.
They’d be athletically overwhelming. Really dynamite on defense. But would really need shooting. Rondo couldn’t shoot back then. But he and Westbrook both actually played real defense back then.
Personally I think Melo would be awesome. He’d be the key guy. He’d be perfectly set up to score his points getting set up by LeBron. Melo led a 54 win Knick team shooting 3’s and playing small ball 4. Perfect.
Howard was at his low point physically w the back issue and just his attitude. He’d be the turd in the punch bowl.
Carmelo Anthony in my book has never been more than a middle-of-the-pack NBA player. He scores a lot of points but there's so much more to basketball and he doesn't do that other stuff very much. But 2012 LeBron was a monster and if you gave him my daughter's high school team as teammates he probably could have carried them to the conference finals. I also think Westbrook has gotten more and more stuck in stubborn ways and was probably better back then. But Davis is far far better today. I would have taken that squad though over this one because this year's will not stay healthy for long, being old.
Oh it'd be an absolute disaster. Melo still had the ego, Lebron had barely learned how to win yet and Howard was too mentally weak at the time to survive in LA.
'12–13 AD was a rookie and a lot worse than he is today.
Melo and Howard were closer to their prime, but also less mature. If this "de-aged" squad had one weakness, it'd be their ability to get along and thrive side by side, and those guys would definitely be likely to butt heads with somebody on the team.
Also, the team would have even less in the way of shooters than the real squad does, since late Lebron is way better than early Lebron in that regard. But man oh man, watch out for the runaway train offense.
lol I definitely use it differently. Like an aimless wandering.
"What did you do in the city while you were waiting?"
"Ohhh, you know, just sorta bokin' around"
Related: Some guys from the UK were dying with laughter at the bar I used to work at when they saw that we offered a "growler" of beer. Apparently there's a very specific slang associated with that term that is waaaay different than here.
JP talk starts around 22:24. There is JP hype, but there's also the realistic talk that preseason and reg. season are very very different. The latter is much faster and much more physical.
Logan Murdock is one of the writer/media guys I really like and knows the Warriors inside out. He’s the one hyping Poole. Raja Bell is really good, too. Great team.
JP has played in the regular season a lot, it's not like he's a rookie. He was playing like this to finish the year when teams were making playoff seeding pushes. I don't really see how that argument is particularly relevant in his situation, personally.
I, too, am annoyed at all the downplaying... it's only 4 more days, tho. Hope they stomp the Fakers.
Actually here's my preferred scenario:
Dubs lead wire-to-wire and LeBron misses a last second FT to tie the game, while the refs miss an obvious Looney lane violation on the rebound. As the Dodgers simultaneously get crushed by the Braves.
It's sure exciting to have a team we're this confident while also eagerly awaiting the return of two important players. Klay's 3 looks so smooth in those videos: it's so centered in the hoop it's barely even touching the net as it goes through!
I’d disagree. Steph’s is much more biomechanically optimal. The more angled stance, landing forward and slightly more angled still than at the start of the shot, unlocks more power from the legs and keeps the shoulders more relaxed, he shoots with more arc, and he generates way more RPMs on the ball with his wrist, those last two things being the most important parts of accuracy at longer distances. Klay’s form is old school with the much squarer stance and it’s fantastic, but that style makes it more likely to tense your shoulders and have your elbow do weird things, both of which keep your wrist from relaxing and generating a lot of spin. I really want to see Kuminga shooting with a more angled stance for exactly those reasons
Warriors should host one last pre-season event at Chase, but this time it’s a winner-take-all 1-on-1 battle between Bradley and Payton for the 15th spot.
He also uses average foot speed as his one criterea for Dray being trash?
But then I clicked through and the slowest was LeBron, and the fastest was some guy named Will Magnay. Plus, that entire stat as a metric is biased because of how much of it is based on who you cover on D.
I wrote him and LOL'd at his "analysis" and use of foot speed. The converse is "efficient action," where I'd guess Draymond would be in the 99th percentile. Plus the hundredth of a step slower is probably not a meaningful difference in either a practical or statistically sound way (with the latter, the hundredth slower is probably random noise).
Yo, isn't Wiseman supposed to get the all-clear today? I loved the part of the Slater article where he mentioned that Celebrini had to keep coming up to JW and Dejan to tell them to tone it down. I can't wait to see a leveled up JW getting some run with the 2nd unit!
I agree that a player like DLee can eat the minutes that either Bradley or GP2 would get so I can see them wanting to save $6M. It's not chump change. For me, the biggest need is a big fella, but I can see the Warriors wanting to go with what they have and maybe bring someone in near the trade deadline. If they can survive the bigger teams it will say a lot for us. If not, we done fugged up. So, I will sit back and see how the FO decide to play this out. GP2 has always had my vote. Inspired D is rare.
Like you say, get out of this game with no injuries. The Blazers? I expect this is the season they fall off a cliff. Making Terry Shotts (sp?) the fall guy for being a mediocre team was just wrong.
I don't think there's any reason to think they're going to "fall off a cliff", barring significant lost time by Lillard and/or McCollum. I think a better bet is it is "more of the same" which would also underline that Terry Stotts being let go isn't a solution.
ok, well no Wiseman update yet. I'll be off for a bit, so the game thread is prescheduled for you all at 6:30.
Hit us up with any updates you see and I'll try and pull them in. See ya!

How would you rank the current Lakers roster if they had the 2012 version of their players?
Specifically, '12-13 versions of: Westbrook, Carmelo, LeBron, AD, Howard, DJ, and Rondo.
They’d be athletically overwhelming. Really dynamite on defense. But would really need shooting. Rondo couldn’t shoot back then. But he and Westbrook both actually played real defense back then.

That's so weird because TurdInThePunchBowl is actually Dwight Howard's Twitter handle. Or... should be

2012-2013 Melo would have done everything in his power to be "the man" and ruin it for everyone else
'12–13 AD was a rookie and a lot worse than he is today.

Throw in the arrogance of Rondo for the perfect storm.
I like the take about maturity... and how the Lakers would probably still suck 😂
Better?
I think that's a safe guess :)
FWIW.....game is also on nbatv (which matters to me and any other DISH people who no longer have access to any of the nbc sports channels)
thank you!
It's been hard to find the preseason game details, but I'll add this to the game details
...and us out-of-market folks!

Mexican League Pass FTW! Or nbabite dot net for the less cultured 😉
"bonking around through four teams" that made me chuckle. In the UK bonking means 'making love' or 'having sex'. 🤭
Same in the states
Never once heard it used... is it regional or am I just not hip enough?
I heard and used “boinking”, but not “bonking” as a euphemism for doin’ it
lol I definitely use it differently. Like an aimless wandering.

Yea, I meant to say "never once heard it used that way". When I think of "bonk", I think "hitting on the head".
Yup. A growler happens on a throne...
Sounds like you're familiar with stopping, but not so much with popping...
I bonk into things, but "boinking" is that special... uhh, nevermind.
I do!
It was a huge stretch goal for him to play today anyways, but Kuminga confirmed out
> @KerithBurke
Jonathan Kuminga is still OUT with a patellar tendon strain in his right knee. The Warriors wrap up the pre-season tonight vs the Blazers.
He probably gonna be in SC for a little while rehabbing.
Anyone hear any news on JFK yet? It's past 1 week now, isn't it?
there's an update coming today, but probably not till the pregame availability
The Ringer discusses Jordan Poole:

Did you listen to what they said? One guy is arguing for JP to be an All-Star, the other guy is just cautioning against over-enthusiasm.
Just started listening to it now, on my lunch break. I was just addressing what you wrote above.
I mean, pre-season results should always be taken with a grain of salt ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Unless you’re Jacob Evans. That man showed all the red flags of being unplayable from Summer League all the way through preseason
I, too, am annoyed at all the downplaying... it's only 4 more days, tho. Hope they stomp the Fakers.

10 in a row. All swishes. Pretty amazing.
Klay's shooting form is better than Steph's imo. It's the golden standard. Thing is Steph has superpowers
I’d disagree. Steph’s is much more biomechanically optimal. Yeah, Klay has always had the textbook form.
Steph, particularly his lower body, can be all over the place on his shots.
Checks out. Steph is the closest thing I've seen to a really, physically-gifted superhero.

I love it.
Fun fact #1: a word search for "Looney" finds zero instances.
Fun fact #2: Author seems to believe that Harrison Barnes in Year 3 was better than Wiggins is now.
Fun fact #3: I always turn to Yahoo for my sports insider knowledge.
Thanks for the warning; won't read

Same for Damion Lee. Low-effort blogging at its finest. This guy should be on the TNT telecast!

Damn! Guess the Lakers gonna suck.
Also assuming Bradley made the roster and have no knowledge that he's still a training camp invite as of right now
The disrespect to GP2
I'd still prefer a big but as far as this game goes, I can't lie, I will be rooting for Avery Bradley to play like shit lol.
“I'd still prefer a big but…”
And still you cannot lie
Worst case is he looks amazing and then we never get anything significant from him.
Yo, isn't Wiseman supposed to get the all-clear today? I loved the part of the Slater article where he mentioned that Celebrini had to keep coming up to JW and Dejan to tell them to tone it down. I can't wait to see a leveled up JW getting some run with the 2nd unit!
Cleared to jump. So he still might not be ready for full speed/contact yet?
I agree that a player like DLee can eat the minutes that either Bradley or GP2 would get so I can see them wanting to save $6M. It's not chump change. 49-33, 5th seed and eliminated in the 2nd round. The usual.
Nah, B. 46-36, 7th seed, win the play in, lose in first round 4-1. Prob to the Jazz.
> With Portland hungry for a win, and the Warriors down to the last little roster move, expect this one to matter a little bit extra to the Blazers
Lillard is sitting, so I'm gonna have to go with a NAH on that one.
One last tune-up and then it's for real!
IT'S CJ TIME!?
Ah. So Warriors by 60 instead of 40 now!
Absolutely AWESOME music. Loved it. Great band. Thank you.
Yea, good tune, thanks for sharing it. But no doubt they are heavily inspired by Nirvana. Grunge all the way!
Agreed, it gives me big Green Day and Foo Fighters vibes too. Thanks DDD for the recommendation.
They're opening for Lagwagon at Bottom of the Hill in SF on 11/4!
