This episode of Locked On Warriors features a guy who covers the Celtics sharing what Horford brings to the table. After listening to this, in describing his fit on the Warriors, I’ll quote Grammy Award-winning artist P!NK, “Fuckin’ perfect”: https://youtu.be/FJ5N-PF8CSE?si=-5Ulvqd7GyXOPBHH
Big question I've had recently is, given the injury to Steph in the Playoffs which torpedoed our Ring5 chances, and after fighting through the regular season just to fight through the Play-in, with his body aging and all the wear and tear after 16 seasons, will the coaching staff be forced to move away from all his off-ball movement to preserve his health? If so, what would be the adjustments to Kerrball? Would this not be an opportunity to put our 22yo dark horse in more of the action?
> Would this not be an opportunity to put our 22yo dark horse in more of the action?
The issue is that featuring Kuminga more is not going to lead to wins because it is a role he cannot fill in an efficient manner. If he could, it would have already happened and they wouldn't have traded for Butler.
If they feel Steph needs it, they'll just manage his appearances during the regular season. But, Kerr's not going to take away one of Steph's main weapons (off-ball movement). That would be a change to the core of the offense, really, since creating confusion in the defense with his movement/decoying is one of the key aspects of it.
“I’m well aware that the reason I’m still here is because Steph Curry is still here,” Kerr said. “I’m not being modest, I’m just telling the truth. If I didn’t have Steph, I would have been like every other NBA coach and lasted a few years, and then gone somewhere else and coached somewhere else.”
I wonder how much Steph has thought about all the questionable "developmental" draft picks that might have been better used to support his legacy vs "playing with house money"? #Sigh
Amen, Captain Jack! It also cemented STEPH's Legacy Internationally as the Greatest Shooter of ALL-TIME and a GOAT CONTENDER! The OLYMPICS performance was the missing LAUREL on his STELLAR EXTRATERRESTRIAL CAREER!
I’ve seen others make a similar criticism, but I disagree completely. Watched both episodes twice now and it’s the best xenomorph production since Aliens.
NHL Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon has agreed to buy the Portland Trail Blazers from the estate of Paul G. Allen for a valuation of over $4 billion, sources tell ESPN.
I thought about it and if an earthquake devastated the local region then yes. I also think unlike earthquakes, Hurricanes are increasing in intensity, frequency, and scope. There is a pretty good chance that the Carolinas will be severely affected by another one in the next couple of years. Man Japanese boxing no joke. Two deaths in one card
If you have lived here a long time, you know how it is with earthquakes. This region has been devastated by them in the past, and it will be again. It's just a matter of time. It's not about how often they happen, it's that when big ones hit, there's almost no notice — unlike hurricanes, which you can see coming so at least have a chance of evacuation. With a big quake, the only escape is to already be somewhere else. And their intensity varies widely, as does their frequency and scope, and none of it is accurately predictable.
I've been through East Coast hurricanes, a couple of midwestern tornados, wildfires (not on my property but close enough, and I helped in a support role on a fire line), a couple of floods, and one fair-sized but not massive quake (Loma Prieta). They're all scary of course but at least with the hurricane you know the odds a day or even a few days ahead and can choose whether to run or batten down the hatches.
Would a three year $60 million contract with a player option on the third season make sense from the Warriors' point of view as a compromise?
To me, it would allow the Warriors to fill out the roster this season and take the pressure off needing to trade Kuminga ASAP. From Kuminga's point of view, he gets a guaranteed $60 million as a the worst case scenario and a max contract after $39 million in the best case scenario. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think any other NBA team offered Kuminga a contract with those advantages this offseason. Of course, it does not address his control and development concerns, but you can't always get everything you want.
Back to the Warriors' point of view, the worst thing would be getting stuck with paying a disgruntled and underperforming and still not efficient Kuminga $21 or so million in 2027-28 or having to give up assets just to move him. But that is then, and this is now.
I think the Dubs want complete flexibility for the 2027 offseason. They are operating like next season is a complete last dance. I think that's a key part of the reason why they don't want Monk. It's also probably how they plan on keeping Jimmy on an expiring happy. So I think 3 years is straight up off the table from the Dubs' perspective.
Real question, what is the difference in trade partners and trade value between Kuminga on $60/3 versus the contract the Warriors have offered? Does it mean the Ws potentially get back a more useful player in February? If so, how much more useful? Given how weak the midseason market was this last year, I'm having a hard time understanding the consequences, within the frame of "2025-26 is our last great shot."
Just to clarify, when I say next season, it's 2026-2027 not 2025-2026 that's our last great shot.
As for JK's trade value on a 3-year deal vs on a 1 + team option? Impossible for us to say as fans, but there's sure a lot more downside on a 3-year deal. Or to phrase it another way, FAs who got $20+M in FA this offseason: Kyrie, Myles Turner, Fred Van Vleet. That's the complete list excluding early extensions. And I think there's a reasonable chance all 3 become bad contracts.
These new apron rules are magnifying every dollar of bad spend. What used to be a "whatever" could now be an anchor.
Seems kinda crazy not to. If JK legit improves, he's easily worth the money by year 3. That is a tradeable asset if the acquiring team gets rights (I'm no cba expert).
Who do they think they are gonna get when steph retires? They are gonna suck and most likely need to draft their next superstar.
How about just a two year fully guaranteed $38 mil contract? On the dubs side for $19 mil per, his contract still would be very tradable (not too big but sizable enough for bigger piece). On JK’s side, this is much better than the just taking the QO. Doing the math… he’s not going to make more than $30 mil next year, after taking the ~$8 mil QO this year.
JK has no leverage to force the Dubs into a third year, in fact he really has very little leverage at all. In the end, his best bet would be to take the Dubs' $45 million/2 years offer (if this offer does indeed exist), play his ass off, and hope he gets traded to a team who could use his talents in January.
“FINE! I’ll give up $13M. Don’t believe me? I’ll do it. I’m really seriously gonna do it. Just you watch! I’m walking away… see me going… bye! Buh-bye!!!! You’re not gonna see me again till training camp!…”
Kent Lacob is reportedly leaving the organization.
"The Golden State Warriors are on the cusp of big changes, with the most recent change being the sudden departure of Kent Lacob from the organization.
In a recent article from Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, the reasoning for his departure was revealed, including what Joe Lacob's reaction was to the news that his son was to leave the organization."
The thing that caught my eye in that article was 40 people in the FO.
I'd love to see a breakdown of what they do (not that we ever will).
Figure it includes scouts, cap guys, stats support guys, a couple of computer wienies, a contract lawyer or two, and maybe the medical dept, that's still a bunch of people.
"The anxiousness grew palpable as soon as Kent started the drive from Chase Center to his dad’s house. He’d made this trek so many times, it could feel monotonous, second nature enough for him to zone out in his Porsche Panamera and think about work as the Warriors’ vice president of basketball development." I doubt any 30 year old basketball ops guys around the league are driving 110K USD cars lol
OT, but I have a confession to make; the Warriors and JK haven't been able to come to an agreement due to the fact that I dropped my TV package so now the Warriors are a couple of bucks short. I don't care about the NFL and in any event you can see 75% of the action in the 10 minute highlight reel. 100% if you don't miss runs between the tackles for little or no gain. The Giants offense is so putrid it hurts to watch and the Adames contract isn't going to age well. Who knew his power would mostly disappear playing at Oracle park? (I mean, other than everybody not in the Giants management). That leaves the Warriors. Since they will win more often than not at least I will have E1P (paid subscriber and proud of it) and the highlights, and I guess for the big games I can go hang out at a sports bar and nurse a beer for a couple of hours. But I'm truly sorry I messed up the JK deal.
No mention of the Valkyries who are surging to a playoff spot in their first ever season? Though as Goofus points out, you don't need a tv package to watch the games.
Really did drop it and it only took me 2 hours between online chat and phone calls. You see this is a very, very complicated operation so you wouldn't figure a first or second line customer support agent would be able to handle it. It's good to be an abusive monopolist. Seriously though the price has gotten very high and we almost never watch anything. If the Warriors had a set of "season viewer" plans over the internet that didn't require dealing with Comcast I would be up for that. At the right price, say $10/month, I might even suck it up and go with an unbundled nbcsports bayarea package ... but only if I can cancel online.
Peacock + NBC Sports Bay Area is close, last season it was the cheapest way to get the local games live. Big drawback though: You have to watch live, as there is no recording or replay capabilities.
I tried but went back to Youtube TV even though it feels stupid to pay that much for just the warriors. (It really is the only thing I watch on TV, everything else is just streaming).
I'm in a similar boat. My roommates watch some cooking shows and I watch Warriors games, and that does not feel like it justifies the ever-increasing price of YouTube TV.
New schedule release thread up. Spoiler: the schedule stinks.

"It just good night." Timofey Mozgod stays humble after his 93 points/29 rebounds performance vs Warriors (2014)

The 93 points wasn't even his career high too.

But.but..but..isn't there a 5th year leap?
Leap year comes every 4 years (mostly).
Actually I think its 10 lords a'leaping
Or a leap of faith
Hoping Steph gets to 5 Golden Rings!
I think the coaching staff should be more concerned about Draymond.
No chance of that.

He probably thinks about it but he also may have had input into some of those picks at the time.
"The Serbia game was the greatest basketball game I've ever been involved with" is a big statement from a 9 time champion. 32:35
You definitely felt it watching as a fan as well. I hadn't gotten that excited about a basketball game since our last Finals appearance
Does Kerr have a more pronounced lisp now?
OT: loved Alien Earth's first two episodes. Atmospheric and keeping with the Ridley Scott spirit.
Whyd it have to premiere when im trying to play catchup on Gilded Age
A lot of money thrown at it but I thought the script was shit with a bunch of moments where I just giggled.
I’ve seen others make a similar criticism, but I disagree completely. Watched both episodes twice now and it’s the best xenomorph production since Aliens.
Noah Hawley is a genius. Legion (at least S1) is one of the best superhero TV shows ever made.
After I saw who was involved I was a little shocked. I'm thinking post editing issues, last min changes, being over ambitious or a combo.
All five seasons of Fargo are also weird and fantastic.
Going to check it out tonight

What a name: Hurricanes. After a hurricane pretty much wiped out most of Asheville
Is it any weirder than the SJ Earthquakes?

Desperate times indeed if we're arguing the relative demerits of team names. :)
Preseason can't get here soon enough.
Not so much weird as frighteningly appropriate.
Besides, could be worse. Could be the Wildfires.
That honestly would be a good equivalent to Hurricanes for Carolina

Kobe - True shooting percentage career - 55.0%
NBA - True shooting percentage, average, 2024-25 - 57.6%
Kobe was lucky he was playing before analytics really took hold
TBF, he was slightly above league average in TS% when he played but far from dominating
Yeah. But he wants to be 'the guy', or at least the second guy, which is the sense I meant it in.
I hear you but it’s a compromise. He basically gets paid $30 mil to wait an extra year be an UFA.
JK has no leverage to force the Dubs into a third year, in fact he really has very little leverage at all. I like supporting a team that doesn't negotiate against itself. Poorly-run teams like SAC do that all the time.
100%

Hopefully his brother gets inspired by this move and follows suit
Do we have any evidence Kirk is bad at his job? It seems like Joe and Kent are the ones attributed to bad decisions.
A too short summary is that there is no family drama but Kent wants to prove himself in some other field without the nepotism.
The thing that caught my eye in that article was 40 people in the FO.

Not sure the context was, but there’s accounting, finance, HR, customer support …and whatever it is that Creed does.
I thought they had a separate corporate business unit ... what Rick Welts ran when Myers was GM.
I was just making a “The Office” joke.
Ah. Never seen the show.
Didn't he watch Succession? This will not go well for him.
Went well enough for Larry Ellisons son
It all started with Larry Elli
A little late for that.
It’s never too late to try something new. In the article all the Lacobs acknowledge their immense privilege.
True. I think they actually come across well for people in their wealth bracket.
"The anxiousness grew palpable as soon as Kent started the drive from Chase Center to his dad’s house. Well, at least you owned it.
Please let us know in the future if you’re contemplating a similar franchise-altering move, for any local institution. I’d like time to prepare.
