Thankfully it's his first game, but I thought he looked pretty passive, especially on D... probably doesn't help that they had him out of the action most of the game spacing out in the corners.
Mostly Gui's fault with the attempted ball-denial, but it looks like Baldwin's aware of the cutter, and does nothing about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Twxh_OnhMY&t=6719s I don't know if he thought he could intercept the pass, but he doesn't even try
Anyway, enough with the negative stuff, it's his first game after a very limited and injury hampered college career -- I thought his handle looked really good for a big guy, he's definitely unselfish, the 3 point shot looks great so far in pre-season and now in this game, which is huge since that was my biggest concern after his atrocious shooting in college... Also he was dealing with a tight whistle, I thought he had a couple of clean blocks and a steal, but instead ended up with 6 personal fouls.
Overall after watching I'd say I'm most concerned about his pick and roll defense, but hopefully as he improves his conditioning and confidence this will be less of an issue. Pretty exciting that this guy is just our 4th most heralded prospect!
I agree, he does seem a bit unenthusiastic and lethargic defensively. But he seems like that on the bench too, he might just be a dull guy lol. Definitely not hustling the way Santos was though.
Feel like that was something in his high school tape too, hopefully it's something they can coach out of him.
Hahaha he does seem like kind of a dull guy 😬 but Tim Duncan and Kawhi both seem kinda dull too, and that never stopped them from putting in effort on defense. Hopefully he can join the club.
Was watching for Baldwin but hard not to pay attention to Santos, very talented passer with the ball in his hands (this was a one handed lefty pass on the move in traffic that hits the shooter right in the hands):
I love his feel for the game in that clip. None of those moves seemed at all “pre-programmed”, which I think separates him from Kuminga and even Poole a bit (to Athletic Alchemy’s point in a recent vid).
Hmmm now that they're contenders they really can't afford to be developing so many young guys... maybe they'll trade us Kessler for the more experienced James Wiseman. Hell we can even throw in established NBA veteran JaMychal Green!
I wonder if they’re going to give up on tanking now. Maybe they think with their excessive collection of picks they can always maybe… flip 3-4 first picks for the actual #1 or #2 pick? And I’m sure they could probably make trades in the middle of the season to teams actually trying to get into playoffs to net 1-2 more first round picks, so maybe this really is the way to go.
The Kings always seem to have someone do well and not do well in various games. A couple of nights ago, Huerter, Mitchell, and Monk were doing well against us. Tonight, it's Barnes and Lyles who are doing well.
Yeah, if they can sustain this level of play their record is definitely going to improve. The question is how well team morale can handle so many close losses.
That might be the most incredible non-Warriors stat I've seen in quite a while.
There's probably some sample-size/correlation stuff involved but… he wasn't this bad for Utah's offense, was he? I mean, he was always defense-first, but apparently Minnesota has no idea how to use him offensively? Or he's just that redundant with the skills they already have.
Come to think of it, I don't think KAT, DLo, or Ant-Man are above-average passers and their next two big-minute guys are Jaden McDaniels and Kyle Anderson, right? None of those guys is outright awful, but suddenly I can see how trying to fit Gobert into a lineup of those guys results in less than the sum of its parts.
I wonder how well the Stifle Tower would do on the Dubs. We probably couldn't play him alongside Loon, who's more useful in the playoffs for those not-quite-smallball lineups. But I'm sure even his doubters would acknowledge he'd be a massive defensive upgrade over Wiseman at this stage in their respective careers, and I am betting Kerr's motion offense could get plenty of value out of his screen-setting and vertical reach.
Not saying we should actually pursue him or anything, just idly wondering how that would go.
Of course if you speculate about how Gobert would do here you have to consider who would have to be dealt to make that happen. It's not like we could trade, say, JW and a few picks (especially if we're in the title hunt) for Gobert straight up.

The "Poeltl on the Warriors" vision is so clear.
Wiseman for Poeltl is the new Wiseman for Myles Turner, and this time I think I'm all aboard.
Wiseman for Poetl?
My only issue is we already have Looney and now we'd have 2 legit centers. Would be harder to go small when needed.
Wiseman for Poeltl is my pipe dream trade scenario.
His assist numbers are also way up this season, at age 27: 4.7 dimes per 36, despite fairly cruddy teammates to pass to.
Looney is sitting at 5 assists per 36 with 0.6 turnovers right now. Pretty insane
man if his defense holds up I'd happily take that...
Checked out a bit of the SC game, beautiful cut by Baldwin: https://youtu.be/9Twxh_OnhMY?t=4113
Pretty deep three soon after, not the purest shot but it went in: https://youtu.be/9Twxh_OnhMY?t=4265
Thankfully it's his first game, but I thought he looked pretty passive, especially on D... probably doesn't help that they had him out of the action most of the game spacing out in the corners.
Here are a few especially troubling possessions:
Sad non-closeout followed by getting absolutely traffic-coned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Twxh_OnhMY&t=2947s
Not as bad, but no fight on this potential rebound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Twxh_OnhMY&t=5937s
Over-help/attempted-trap? on the pick and roll, once again traffic-coned, while simultaneously screening his own man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Twxh_OnhMY&t=6699s

This is a block: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Twxh_OnhMY&t=6719s
Is this really a foul? https://youtu.be/9Twxh_OnhMY?t=1436
This looks like a clean steal to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Twxh_OnhMY&t=6018s

Patrick Baldwin Jr: Not quite a lob threat
https://youtu.be/9Twxh_OnhMY?t=5309

https://youtu.be/9Twxh_OnhMY?t=6486
Less flashy but smart play to open up the shot:
https://youtu.be/9Twxh_OnhMY?t=6705
Defense plus another nice pass, he seems to hustle a lot defensively:
https://youtu.be/9Twxh_OnhMY?t=7024
If his shot becomes consistent then for all I know he could be the best Warrior prospect of them all lol.
Santos is the schizznit. I wish he was on a 2-way right now (though Lamb has also been good).
Thanks for bringing these clips over.
love a young player with feel for the game
Gui kinda plays like gordan hayward or am I trippin
I can kinda see it, hopefully his jumper gets to Hayward's level. It's kinda wild that he's actually taller than Hayward.
Also I can kinda see the "Brazilian Doncic" jokes too:
https://twitter.com/NBAdoPovo/status/1589289789664419840
I love his feel for the game in that clip. None of those moves seemed at all “pre-programmed”, which I think separates him from Kuminga and even Poole a bit (to Athletic Alchemy’s point in a recent vid).
Plus a left handed finish, which separates him from Moody.
lol
And the first team to 10 wins is…. The Utah Jazz!
Hmmm now that they're contenders they really can't afford to be developing so many young guys... maybe they'll trade us Kessler for the more experienced James Wiseman. Hell we can even throw in established NBA veteran JaMychal Green!

It's hard to imagine whoever gets the first pick would flip it rather than take Victor.
I haven't been following the other draftees -- how about the 2~5th picks?
Kings beat the Cavs 127-120.
Cavs: 53.5% shooting (46/86 FGs), 11/26 threes, 17/20 FTs, 51 rebounds, 24 assists, 18 turnovers, 4 steals, 1 block
Kings: 52.7% shooting (40/76 FGs), 17.39 threes, 30/35 FTs, 33 rebounds, 30 assists, 9 turnovers, 12 steals, 4 blocks
I think it's safe to say that the Kings are legit this season.
Ugh, now the Cavs will be extra motivated.
Kings 35 free throws
Cavs 20 free throws
I'm seeing a lot of games decided by this stat
Kings: #5 in FTAs per game (25.3)
Cavaliers: #7 in FTAs per game (24.2)
Kings: #11 in opponent FTAs per game (22.8)
Cavaliers: #24 in opponent FTAs per game (24.3)
As for the Warriors:
#25 in FTAs per game (21.5)
#30 in opponent FTAs per game (29.5)
Warriors REALLY need to cut down on the opponent FT attempts.
Surprising since Cavs really dominated in points in the paint.
So Dubs beat Kings, Kings beat Cavs. So on Friday, Dubs beat Cavs. Right? I will not hear other cases..La La La La!!!
Math!
So are the cavs, but maybe thats what toure implying
Spurs and Grizzlies also went into OT. Grizzlies won by only 2. I guess Warriors have a chance against Memphis 🥴
Will the Kings be able to come away with a win tonight?
nope, (wrong)
hopefully the wife and I get to witness another home loss for them on sunday
The Kings won tonight.
welp, massive brain fart aside, I still hope to witness a home loss
The Kings always seem to have someone do well and not do well in various games. A couple of nights ago, Huerter, Mitchell, and Monk were doing well against us. Tonight, it's Barnes and Lyles who are doing well.
Mitchell's having an amazing season with the Cavs so far.
Kings up 69-58 against the Cavs at halftime. Kings are on fire; they're shooting 57.5% (23/40 FGs) and are 11/23 threes.
They must think they're playing the Dubs with that kind of first half output
The only game they have lost by more than 10 points is the game against the Grizzlies. They've been giving teams a run for their money this season.
Yeah, if they can sustain this level of play their record is definitely going to improve. The question is how well team morale can handle so many close losses.
Thunder-Bucks game is heading to overtime. Bucks don't have Giannis, Middleton, Connaughton, and Holiday tonight.
And now double OT
Looks like Bucks will come out with a win.

Minnesota Timberwolves with Rudy Gobert on and off the court this season.
ON:
101.1 OFF RTG (30th in NBA)
104.0 DEF RTG (2nd in NBA)
OFF:
116.2 OFF RTG (3rd in NBA)
113.3 DEF RTG (23rd in NBA)
That might be the most incredible non-Warriors stat I've seen in quite a while.

He could also potentially help in the playoffs against some of those matchup problems, namely Jokic and Embiid.

A lot of good stuff here.
Andre "not gonna play in a game any time soon" :(
I think we knew that all along.
Sure, the reality of it just sucks considering the need for players like him around the young guns right now.
Pacers put up 70 in first half against Denver. Up 14 after 43 point 2Q!
Magic beat the Mavs 94-87. That's a very low score.
And Banchero didn’t even play.
