There are many things to worry about right now as far as our Dubs goes but Klay's shooting is definitely not one of them for me.

I'll ride with Klay until the end, but I'd be relieved and grateful if he'd get back to shooting like Splash Brother...

Expand full comment

He will. One thing a shooter will never lose is his shot. Who knows how long it'll last but I know one thing, it's not going to last forever.

OT: SeaDubs remain undefeated under Nick Kerr w/ a 121-112 win over G-League Ignite. No Podz (which is probably why it was as close as it was) but great games from Gui, Lester Q, and TJD.

Gui 29 pts on 10-12 fg, 7 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, +13 in 28 minutes

Lester 27 pts on 8-16 fg, 9 reb, 5 ast, +10 in 30 minutes

Trayce 11 pts on 5-9 fg, 10 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl, 4 blk, +8 in 24 minutes

Anybody here realize that the flakers are 3-0 in the IST with the ped-goat while we are stinking - that really hurts.

They are a money team.......

They went against the Grizzlies and the Blazers, which are the worst teams in the West, and they went against the Suns without Booker (though the Suns had Beal and Durant).

Excuses don’t matter for the IST - we are about to be kicked out of it

No IST means more rest for our players. Right?

Expand full comment

Yes, being old they need more rest and longer recovery time, especially for a bruised ego.

Expand full comment

More total rest than if they make the IST finals, yes. Also it seems like not making the IST playoffs has to slightly improve your schedule, as your extra games will be scheduled against others who didn't qualify (vs having to play someone who qualified), right?

So that means we need to lose as many IST games to get more rest. However, losing the games means you don't get bonus cash.

It's not all bad news, Sea Dubs won, 29 for Gui, TJD out there blocking shots at the rim, LQ also played well.

Is TJD going to be recalled for tonight’s OKC game or will Kerr glue him to the bench again

They are our future.

I just wish Steve Kerr would slump Klay's minutes until he rises again. Five points in 27 minutes is the issue. If Klay isn't having a good go at it, reduce his minutes, bring M, Moody in on some of that wasted time.

Expand full comment

Million dollar question is when to get moody in - its pretty clear Moody is playing much better then Klay. So it should really be when should klay come in!

Expand full comment

If Klay rushes and misses 2-3 shots in the 1st take him out. If he's making keep him in.

Expand full comment

I wish coach Kerr was using that level of analytics- thats not how he is making decisions though!

Expand full comment

It would be incredibly questionable coaching to establish a culture where a player knows that if they miss their first two shots they are getting benched. You do not want players looking over their shoulder.

WOW, its a Wiseman fest today. All the things I said made Wiseman's task tougher are now recognized as impediments to good performance. Even the mighty Klay shouldn't be expected to perform if he's afraid of getting yanked. But, apparently, that wasn't supposed to negatively affect Wiseman. . . . Glad to see the new wisdom here. Better late than never I guess.

Expand full comment

Well if only he would look at the scoreboard instead

Expand full comment

Last game Klay made his first 3, then got taken out moments later and never made another shot. That's when I like to see him look for his shot more after making a tough one to get in rhythm.

He does everything well for a guy as young as he is. I’ve even heard his D this season praised.

Alt timeline of Haliburton ‘20 and Sengun ‘21 (both of whom we apparently were intrigued by) is interesting to ponder, if you’re a masochist…

I mean except Klay was still playable at a high level because he was still an elite defender. Thats no longer the case but this may have a silver lining come offseason contract negotiations and i still fully believe in Klay having a vital role on this team for a handful more years. Just may be that that role gonna look alot different than what we were used to pre Danny Green Meet & Greet

Expand full comment

Klay was a major part of why our first third of last season was really bad - the excuse was that he did not play and get into shape over the preseason and summer.

This season he actually did everything the team needed over the summer to be ready for this season.

The fact he cannot perform is very troubling and to me it’s age catching up!

Jordan Poole update - 2-11, 0-6 from 3, 8 points, 4 assists, 5 turnovers, -18 in 29 minutes.

I don't dislike JP3 but absolutely no one should be clamoring to get him back.

Expand full comment

He’s been shockingly terrible through 12 games — like, all the worst things we saw last season (poor rebounding and D, terrible shot selection, crazy turnovers, massively negative impact on the scoreboard) with none of the good. His TS is currently .489.

JP, Wiggs, and Klay have to be among a small handful of the worst big-minute players in the league in the early going. Kinda makes the ‘22 chip feel that much more miraculous (and Steph’s playoff performance coming off an injury that much more legendary).

Expand full comment

Imo he should also serve as a reminder of the step up in difficulty when you go from facing the second or third best defender on the other team to the best defender on the other team and occupying the top billing on the opponent's gameplan. Something that I think people should also keep in mind when discussing the Warriors and specifically Klay.

Problem is he went away from maximizing his Kerr system skills in his last year, and tried to focus on being a highlight reel ball handler. I thought he actually went backwards last year, in addition to the increased responsibility and defensive gameplanning making him look overmatched.

To be more specific, after his first year he put a ton of work into his conditioning and strength, and got so he could run shooters routes in Kerr's system as fast as Klay or Steph. Those were also the 3s he shot and hit at a good rate -- running offball off screens, instead of trying to shoot off the dribble, which is still a theoretical part of his game. I really think he moved away from things he was naturally good at to things he most wanted to be good at.

Expand full comment

There was a book a few years back from Marcus Buckingham that argued that instead of attempting to fix "flat" sides, people should seek to maximize their strengths. Fits with your argument. OTOH, not sure that NBA players can avoid working on things they're bad at.

Expand full comment

Been saying that for three years in the context of Wiseman. Which is why I think he should move to the 4 where his mobility and ball handling would be more helpful.

Expand full comment

You’ve got to know where to move.

Expand full comment

But not with his present team. They have some good bigs to fill the 4 and 5 slots. He needs to be traded to a team that will actually play him there. That will take balls and innovation on the coach's part. Not sure how many have that kind of vision.

Expand full comment

We did underplay the punch - or at least the team tried to first prevent the video from getting out and then underplayed the impact.

Expand full comment

You can bet there are several other issues haunting the team. They close ranks fast and most of us have no idea what is really going on. Lacob is losing his lustre with his emotional decision making and building around a fading team convinced his ego is always correct. They were blindsided by Myers abandonment. I want to believe that Dunleavy can quietly change their direction with minimal damage to Kerr. But Kerr may be the next in line for a job change.

Post post-game-depression-period, I am back to being bullish on Klay and Warriors 😃. Yeah yeah - there are receipts out there but remember what happens in the game thread and post game a.k.a therapy thread doesn't count.

I think we will be back to being Warriors in 10 games. Klay will be fine.

PS: If you are still on the ledge, listening to this morning's TK show podcast (w/ Bob Myers) and this evening's Steve Kerr Q&A on 95.7 is a good idea.
