Does anyone think this is about money? Kerr made $35M over the last two years. Think he wants more? Think he'd take less?

I posted this in the previous article, but it really belongs in this one so I'm pasting a copy here.

Sigh. I just can't figure out what to think. Putting aside the weird revelations about possible political leanings affecting the warriors decisions this off season, I am really conflicted about how to feel about ownership in general:

On the one hand, I, like many fans old enough to remember a time when they drafted Todd Fuller over Kobe (and not only Kobe, also over Peja Stojakoviฤ‡, Steve Nash, and Jermain O'neill and that was just one draft. If you want to suffer through the other drafts or, worse, the actual seasons, please feel free to go look it up) would have traded quite a bit for just one championship. And they delivered us 4! Really should just be happy that they were willing to spend (the new CBA was designed primarily to stop the Ws!) and wanted to win and have no right to complain.

(You didn't think that was gonna stop me though, right?)

On the other hand the stories (none of which are 100% substantiated, but still ...) of poor, dare I say egotistical decisions feel like they add up to an owner who does care more about self aggrandizement than winning or REALLY doesn't get his own limitations basketball wise. To whit:

-couldn't hang on to Jerry West (who really just wanted to be appreciated, as near as I can tell)

-Got involved in the draft instead of letting the BB people do it (to what extent, we don't know but there have been some ... questionable at best ... decisions that are largely attributed to him)

-Went all 2 timelines instead of recognizing that Steph is generational and probably ended up (sorry, everyone) wasting some of Steph's prime

And now they seem set on not understanding how to sunset this Dynasty (not that anyone else ever has either, to be fair).

- I don't get all this BS about wanting Kerr to buy in. Why NOT bring Kerr back on a 1 year contract for this last run at it? It wouldn't be a retirement tour, it would be a real last shot at a title (and if they handled their off season business and ended up the season in the playoffs with a healthy Steph, Moody, JB, Dray, KP + Al, GP2, Podz, Gui, PIck 11, and hopefully Melton and rounded out by whomever of Post, Bassey, Seth, Richard, Magnum etc. they felt fit best, then they would have a pretty reasonable shot, too)

- If they don't want Kerr back then they need to admit they are in rebuild mode and trade Steph, Dray, JB, and KP (would need to be a sign and trade probably) for whatever they could get.

-This feels like the same mental error as 2 timelines only compressed into a 1 year span.

Ultimately I am trying to use my brain to decide how to feel about all this and that has never worked for anyone (not even Spock) and so I am left quite distraught and confused.

Anyway, here's hoping everyone comes to their senses and GO VALKYRIES!

And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. How about Splitter as a candidate? Portland has been pretty darn good since he took over and they wonโ€™t be underbid with this owner.

ananthd's avatar

I prefer him over most. He's won a chip with the Spurs, has done a good job this year and Gui will have guy to talk Portuguese with.

Ayo Dosunmu is a free agent. He might have earned 50 million more from the last 2 games.

If we believe what various Warriors execs have said over the years, Lacob has the final say but draft picks, trades, etc., are group decisions. I doubt Joe came in and said โ€œItโ€™s Wisemanโ€ without major input from his FO and probably Kerr. And weโ€™ll probably never know who said what in that room.

Do we blame Lacob for post-injury Klay not being the same player, yet expecting to be treated and paid like a superstar? If Steph stays healthy and we beat MN last year, or if Jimmy, Steph, and Moses stay reasonably healthy, and weโ€™re in the playoffs now, is Joe a bad owner?

So okay Lacob isnโ€™t a genius. But he bought a loser team, brought in people who put the right players around Steph to win four rings, kept the Dubs relevant despite the tax aprons, got Chase built with no public money, continued to take big swings when we needed solutions, and launched the Valkyries successfully and brought in good people for that.

Lacob isnโ€™t perfect but heโ€™s still one of the best owners in the league and deserves respect.

McDaniels living rent free in the Joker's head.

Time will tell if that lit a fire under Jokic to stop letting Gobert contain him

Knicks-Hawks: Series tied 2-2

Pistons-Magic: Magic lead 2-1

Thunder-Suns: Thunder lead 3-0

Nuggets-Timberwolves: Wolves lead 3-1

Do they dare suspend Jokic for an elimination game?

Bel's avatar

If that was Draymond, yes.

Ayo Dosunmu with 41?! Best trade return of the season?

Not if you're a Bulls fan.

Wolves may win the battle but not the war. Such awful news on DDV and Ant. Silver might have killed the golden goose by prioritizing short term greed but losing perspective as to how much more pace and space is causing guys to fall like 9 pins.

Reminds me of Dubs winning Game 1 against the Wolves in last year's playoffs when Steph hurt his hamstring.

NoOneEverGotFired4GuardinSteph's avatar

Ugh what could've been... He was cooking them, too, they had no answer. We win that series and then would've faced the yet-to-make-the-Finals OKC team...I am not sure they'd have an easy time against Steph when we could smell another Finals appearance.

All because the NBA let the Rockets play physical AF and hobble Jimmy so we had to play a longer series in round 1 and put extra strain on Steph's body. And then we get a season full of injuries this year ๐Ÿ˜ญ

fzwinter's avatar

I think Gobert's really getting into Jokic's head

GovernorStephCurry's avatar

the nba needs to shorten the season. these guys canโ€™t play 82 at a high intensity before the playoffs.

Captain Jack's avatar

If Aaron Gordonโ€™s health is compromised too then unfortunately the Nuggets or Wolves would be free food for the Thunder, sigh

Sabiscrashingout.'s avatar

He also has a calf injury. He shouldn't be playing.

The East having no real contenders besides the Celtics so Iโ€™d have to root for Boston. Barf.

BayesGT's avatar

I still think the Cavs have potential tbh. Harden/Mitchell is an excellent backcourt and Mobley/Allen is an excellent frontcourt.

Captain Jack's avatar

Just like the Knicks I can't really take them seriously. I wouldn't be shocked if they make the ECF but consider me a doubter. I think Boston is the only team in the East with a realistic shot against OKC but that's just me

NoOneEverGotFired4GuardinSteph's avatar

Allen shrinks in the playoffs, he's literally the guy who said the lights got too bright lol

Bel's avatar

So has Harden

The Wolves lost DDV AND Anthony Edwards??

If Billionaire Joe Lacob fires Kerr over politics, his Pebble Beach house overlooks the 14th hole, if anyone wants to stop by to protest.
