Summer League Warriors
Summer League is starting with the California Classic at Chase Center.
We have a comprehensive guide to the Warriors roster here:

Opponents
Here are come brief notes on the opposing team, a team based somewhere near Jimmy Butler’s old house.
Hansen Yang, 杨瀚森 Qingdao C
2025 #16 to everyone’s shock
It was later reported that a number of teams were circling to swoop up Yang and POR had to grab him there if they wanted him.
He was dismissed as another large foreign player with no chance until he had a respectable Combine with some highlight passes. Apparently his team workouts were very good as well.
Sweet passing, very large human. All eyes on him to see if he can hang on defense.
[[ Yang actually had summer league experience before being drafted No. 16 last month. He joined the China national team in the California Classic last year at age 19, averaging 8.7 PPG and 5.0 RPG in three games. Both turnovers (4.7 per game) and fouls (4.0 per game in 20.9 minutes) were an issue for Yang, and we'll be watching how much he has improved in between summer league outings. ]] -- Pelton
Sidy Cissoko Portland Trail Blazers SG
2023 #44.
Bruising wing.
Hasn’t really gotten NBA traction, but is now on a Two-Way
Caleb Love Arizona PG
Had some draft buzz as a combo guard but was undrafted in 2025
Rayan Rupert Portland Trail Blazers SG
2023 #43
Athletic but raw offensively
Brother of Iliana Rupert, the Golden State Valkyrie
Apricot In-Game Notes from Game 3
Etc
I asked APRIBOT to compare Cryer and she thinks Davion 2021 is much better in all dimensions except for 3P volume and FT%. Davion was a stud in college…
And APRIBOT on Cryer and Seth Curry. Seth 2013 is worse at defense, more efficient scorer….
APRIBOT wants you to know that she is not responsible for the Substack posts. She is only a similarity algorithm that only wants what is more efficient for carbon and silicon based life forms
[On Cryer’s frequent foot injuries] I’m now more worried than I was before he reassured me.
On another note, people should be aware that Will Richard’s appearance in Game 2 was the first time he had played with any of those players (or any kind of 5v5 since the NCAA final). He was not allowed to practice while the trade was pending.
Sports without heartbreak is mere bookkeeping
haha don't be silly. APRIBOT doesn't have a voice. There are now strict protocols in place to avoid the very unfortunate incidents from the beta testing phase.
Ok, my information was wrong and the SL game started at 4:00 PT! On now.
Q1
9.35. Two-way Toohey making his debut. First play, pin down into a back door cut, but the passes intercepted.
8.45. Toohey first dribble, Toohey first turnover.
7.10. Alex T runs a pick and roll, but doesn't angle his defender into the screen, gets nothing out of it.
6.00. Taran Armstrong showing some shiftiness getting all the way to the rim on that fast break through traffic, but he muffs up the bunny.
3.35. Taran Armstrong and Coleman Hawkins with a very Warriors-like play. Hit ahead to Hawkins, Instant screen and touch pass right back to Armstrong for the pull-up three. It's beautiful.
1.25. Toohey with the suave pass on the flare screen (miss), and then almost gets a steal on the other end. Is Toohey starting to catch up to the speed of Summer League? 1.00. Toohey with a good cut continuing to the basket in transition. Let's see if he can hit a free throw. Yes!
The Death Star is at full operational capacity. Toohey, Cryer, Richard, Bolden, all on the court at the same time. Immediately give up a basket, ha ha.
0.40. Hey, Toohey with a good O-reb, for two free throws.
0.26. Then Toohey with the DREB grab and run... then gets the ball stolen. He is perking up though.
At the buzzer, Cryer showing some good character by hoisting up the buzzer-beating miss.
Q2
It would have been interesting to see Coleman Hawkins wrestling with Kelel Ware, but he's not playing today.
8.50. Toohey ISO'd on the perimeter, engenders a travel. Then, to be sporting, he gives it right back with a travel of his own on the catch.
8:11. FYI, Goldin just threw down a massive alley-oop dunk over Coleman Hawkins.
7:40. Toohey with a pretty good outlet pass to keep that fast break going. The rest of the play was like a bowling ball scattering pins.
6:31. Bolden smokes, I think, his third layup.
3.40. It's not all Bolden's fault, but it doesn't look great that Miami has, I think, four straight layups uncontested.
2.30. LJ Cryer got posted up by Keyshad Johnson and held his own, inspiring a turnover.
1.54. Toohey gets a smaller man guarding him and immediately seals, inside position. Taran Armstrong obliges with the pass, but it's a foul.
0.15. Toohey showing off that Australian steal technology, almost grabbing it out of Larsson's hands. Then with the backup Aussie technology, Armstrong draws a foul on the steal attempt.
Q3
9:40. I don't know if he's just being polite, but Richard does not seem to want to have anything to do with being the ball handler.
9:30. Johnson posts up Toohey, and it's a layup.
9:10. Bolden has settled in and has hit two straight bank shots.
8:22. Welcome to NBA Summer League. Toohey gives Johnson too much space, and Johnson dots a three in his eye.
7.35.. That time Richard does run a pick-and-roll and tries to thread a pocket pass to Bolden, which is immediately intercepted, and he berates himself in the corner. Keshad Johnson throws down a massive dunk on the other end. Johnson, as I recall, was part of our draft tourney, so I have a soft spot for him.
Before you get too much FOMO, Johnson is not a rookie, so he is supposed to dominate Summer League, he said, while weeping into a jar of Vegemite.
5.47. I see Kevin Danna is trying out the nickname Little Richard for Will Richard. I'm not sure I like it.
3:31. Coleman Hawkins with a very nice flying offensive rebound.
2:41. Cryer and Hawkins have a miscommunication on the pick-and-roll defense there. Cryer plays it as ice, so he jumps into the screen, leaving a path for the ball to drive into Coleman. But Coleman is not there because he was just playing one-on-one defense. Forces number 19 to rotate to stop the drive, which sets up a thunderous alley-oop to none other than Mr. Johnson.
1:17 & 0.22. Will Richard seemed 100% committed to taking those shots, no matter how close the defender was. Clanks.
Okay, I think that's enough of the in-game notes for now. See you in Las Vegas, video-wise.
From last thread. This is an interview of SETH Curry by MONTE Poole.
[[ "They play a good brand of basketball,” SETH Curry told Poole regarding Golden State. “I feel like I've been a part of Dub Nation for a while watching Steph and being around the organization. Obviously, they could use ... any team could use shooting. But I can't say anything other than I'm trying to find the best place for me, and hopefully we'll figure it out in the next week and figure out where I'll be going next."
“I always got to do what’s best for myself, obviously," Curry told Poole. "Steph would love me to come over there and play with them, the fans show me a lot of love at all times, the family would love it. I’ve always embraced the Warriors and their system and love the way they play, and you never know what could happen.” ]]

I can’t watch the game but I was hoping that Hansen Yang would do respectably and the Warriors summer league team would not stink. Sounds like I only got one of the two.
