I really enjoy watching Plowden play basketball. Think he’s gonna earn a decent amount of minutes this year on the main team.
I’m surprised by how much I’ve liked Kevin Knox. He still does a silly thing here and there but he’s been pretty disciplined defensively and his hustle and shooting have been good. Plus, he’s fucking gigantic, and still has better foot speed than Moody.
I’m a sucker for a comeback story, so I’d be happy if we manage to keep him in Santa Cruz until a roster spot clears up…. But I suspect some team will offer him the minimum or he’ll go overseas for a lot of money.
Here's what's crazy about this Warrior's Summer League team.
First, I really liked Plowden, Thompson, Spencer, and Bolden.
Then I really liked Knox and Bolden.
Then I really liked Plowden, Podz, TJD, and Rowe.
Then I really liked Podz and TJD.
Then I really liked Spencer, Plowden and Rowe.
Then I really liked Spencer, Post, Plowden, and Knox.
Note that Santos was on the roster, but has not played yet.
To me, this Warriors SL team has (or had) at least 8 players on the roster with borderline NBA talent or better:
Podz, TJD, Santos, Spencer, Plowden, Bolden, Knox, and Post
This is not including Beekman (what happened to him?), Rowe (who seems like he could be nearly as valuable as JTA), or Thompson (who has had his moments)
GSW will play MIA on Sunday 1pm Pacific. Rematch of CA Classic vs a Heat team stocked to the brim with Draft Tourney guys. Will be very interested to see what Post looks like guarding Ware.
I tuned in to watch Post and my takeaway was…pretty good!
The bad: Looks pretty stiff and slow. Not sure if he’s got strong hands for contested rebounds. If he played in an NBA game the athleticism both inside and out is just gonna be tough.
The good: Got his hands up on D. Love that. If you’re big and slow in space, make yourself as big as you can be.
Real active on O. Was setting screens, moving.
Activity level on both sides was high, and that’s a good sign. Makes me think he’s got both a good motor and knows the game well. You keep moving when you know what to do.
Other notes: I think the Warrior coaching staff gave Knox Otto Porter Jr tape and just told him to play like this.
Pat Spencer whether he makes the big roster or not, can probably have a job with the Warriors forever just playing Dubs style basketball with the other younger guys.
All rosters that are crowded will shake out over time. Injuries, poor play, and trades happen. Warriors are loaded. I will be very interested to see how Kerr handles it all.
It will sink in more during the regular season...was listening to DAVID WEST, asked who was a better 3pt shooter, STEPH OR KLAY, WEST said off-the-dribble, STEPH; catch-N-shoot, KLAY. That is the way I always thought of it, also. It is really splitting hairs when you try to compare the greatest 3pt shooters, AT....
speaking of splitting hairs...all these years, watching SPLASH BROS shoot the ball, I always had this thought (as I shot a lot from beyond the top of the key in my day): from where those two shot the ball, a HAIR OFF ON THEIR RELEASE, translates to half a foot off on the rim, FREAKIN SURREAL ROBOTS, man...and, when they were both on, in pick your poison mode, simply AWESOME...truly the stuff of legends...
Summerdubs were throwing doubles and all sorts of looks at Hunter Maldonado down the stretch but he seemed to consistently beat it. All hero ball, but reminded me a bit of Poole, I'd be a little surprised if he just remains on OKC's G league team.
FINE play in the clutch...KNOX, PLOWDEN, et al, in FINAL FOUR...PAT SPENCER definitely got game....fun game to watch...dudes got DUBS BALL DOWN PAT...pun intended...everyone making the extra pass....
Would have been nice to see someone who could have played enough defense to have slowed down Maldonado... (was hoping for Reece Beekman)... but otherwise a nice showing from most of the SL team.
Have the Warriors trailed at all after the opening minutes in any of these games? I count five blowouts and two closer ones, but in both of the close ones it was always the Warriors up 2-10 points and the other team trying to chip away.
Wish the regular season could play out like this...
I felt like there were a bunch of times where Knox gambled on a board or deflection and each time either fumbled it or stepped on the line. He's energetic & athletic, but I think his skills just might not be good enough to take advantage of it.
For the time being, Beekman or Santos. Knox has unique skills. Cannot be defended. 3 ball, rebounding, defense. I'd even gamble on him over Post as a long shot.
At the moment our two-ways are Spencer, Beekman, and Plowden. So we already need to make a move to get Post under contract.
Santos has a regular roster spot, which is guaranteed, and we're too close to the first apron (under $500k, as I recall) to replace him unless we make a trade first.
I have an inkling we won't need a worse version of Santos ... especially if it means cutting Santos. ;-P
Knox has had his fun moments, but has also been by the Warriors' least efficient scorer among high usage guys ( an awful .482 TS) with more than twice as many turnovers as assists. Against summer league competition.
Gui was much better than him last summer, at age 21.

lol...thanks, ERIC...that was quick...interesting to see if DUBS bring in the cavalry...PODZ et al...
No way that they will bring back Podz or TJD...

Yep, hopefully it won't take Steve 3/4-season again...
Thanks for the report. For those of us who missed it, this is gold.
Thunder had Plowden on their SL roster last season and played him 23 minutes over 8 games. Way to go, idiots.
I don't think they're hurting for talented youngsters...
Yep, they are deep and getting deeper...with young talent
Maybe he wasn't as good last season.

He'll get over it soon enough.

Graphic said semifinals at Sunday 2PM Eastern. I don’t know what the matchups are or who plays when.
I think :
Clippers vs Grizzlies at 2:00 PM Eastern/11:00 Pacific
Heat vs Warriors at 4:00 Eastern/1:00 Pacific

#RINGUS
Miami, Memphis, Clippers, and Warriors in the semifinals.
Warriors vs Heat would be a California Classic rematch
Warriors vs Grizzlies would be the Spencer brothers facing off
Warriors vs Clippers, I got nothing
Spencer vs Spencer could be fun.

Maybe we need to get the Summer League coach onto the NBA coaching staff...
Can Knox be our secret weapon. We have no one like him on the Dubs.
I felt like there were a bunch of times where Knox gambled on a board or deflection and each time either fumbled it or stepped on the line. He's energetic & athletic, but I think his skills just might not be good enough to take advantage of it.
He needs more development and coaching. His skills impressed me but he is definitely a gambler/underdog.. #9 pick 2018.
After 6 years he still needs more development and coaching? That doesn't sound promising.
I'm not guaranteeing him.
No George Zimmer / Men's Wearhouse guarantees? 😂
I remember those commercials from 20 years ago. Is he still around?
No, it doesn't. Then again, he's still 24 (25 in August). That's still young enough to improve. But time is running out...
Of course, this is just from watching today's game, it could've just been a bunch of unfortunate plays.
Whose job are you giving him?
For the time being, Beekman or Santos. Knox has unique skills. Cannot be defended. 3 ball, rebounding, defense. I'd even gamble on him over Post as a long shot.
Knox is basically an older, worse version of Santos, with worse decision-making and less upside.
Ouch.
But besides that, how would you compare them? 😅
Not sure.
At the moment our two-ways are Spencer, Beekman, and Plowden. So we already need to make a move to get Post under contract.
Santos has a regular roster spot, which is guaranteed, and we're too close to the first apron (under $500k, as I recall) to replace him unless we make a trade first.
Plus, it is a long season...no telling what you'll need...

No doubt he is raw...ceiling...
Agreed. Eric referred to Knox as "chaotic." I think that fits.
very true.
