I by chance happened upon an Utah site similar to this one when looking up trades for LM.

The fans on that site were not very high on Podz and wanted no part of him. It was interesting looking at it from the opposite perspective. They of course are just random fans on a website but the short time I spent there was consistent with no Podz wanted.

I think he is one of those guys you have to watch a lot to fully appreciate what he brings. He needs to be in the right system.I wonder what Ainge thinks of him because that is all that matters.

Me *Nino Brown crying as he points the gun* when we have to trade Podz to Utah to get this deal done.

I see no deal even close with Utah. If any of the rumors of hoopshype are true about Utah's demands, fugettaboudit. With the rise of Podz and JK, along with the new riders we got, the Warriors would be pushing in their hand with a make or brake move. This doesn't seem to be a Lacob move. We know our guys will be competitive, why weaken the team for years to come with an all or nothing move? They don't need to do it. Podz and JK combined should score more points than Lauri and we retain flexibility for our rotations.

I got curious about how Podz would compare to John Stockton at 22 as we are talking about Utah, and they are both shortish, not athletic (allegedly) white guys playing PG picked in the middle of the 1st round. And the answer is ... not bad at all. Stockton predated the Curry/Thompson 3 point revolution so hardly took any 3s, but for his career hit them at the same rate as Podz in his rookie season. Stockton is much better at assists, steals, and free throw percentage. Podz is a much better rebounder and would presumably get more assists playing at PG instead of SG. The extra 2 years Stockton go at college is huge from a development perspective. If Utah gets Podz and then spams the Podziemski/Kessler PNR, it will be like old times in Utah.

Stockton and Podz are not alike in most ways. Stockton was one of the most skilled passers of all time. Smooth, with vast court awareness, and a great partner in Malone. He knew his roll and executed it consistently. Podz is a dawg. All over the court, going for every rebound. Good quality to have but I would compare Stockton to Paul, a much better fit.

They're not going to trade Podz. His mini Dray comment was true in so far as it suggests that, like Dray, he is worth a lot more to the Dubs than to other teams. Utah has Keyonte George and they are very high on him. Maybe a third team could get involved. Most likely this is just Danny Ainge trying to create a competitor for the teams he really plans to trade to...like SA,

Or the Spurs are just Ainge trying to create a competitor for GS.

I agree about Podz, though. Get the sense the Ws will do everything they can to keep him. In pure basketball terms (setting aside contract, upside, etc.), with CP3 gone, they absolutely need his secondary playmaking. Whereas — not saying I want to trade him but — they can theoretically cobble together a lot of the elements of Kuminga with Wiggs, Moody, Santos, and Plowden.

Also, our new riders have changed the complexion of our rotations. We are no longer weak off the bench and players will be vying for playing time. This is an interesting time for the Dubs. They hold a lot of possibilities which Markkanen would destroy if any of these insane rumors are true. No way this deal happens giving away valuable players for one guy and whatever chaff MDJ can extract from Ainge.

Expand full comment

The other teams have dropped out of the Lauteri…and SA likely has mild interest still so Ainge is playing that angle.

GSW likely has the best offer on the table tho, however, and MDJ knows it

Wait Danny out or let him just simply extend the oft injured “Porzicorn 2.0” and end this thing. Watch his value plummet by the TL

Maybe there is no deal.

I personally can't see Podz having a high ceiling as far as scoring the ball goes but I have a feeling that stubborn competitive kid is going to prove me and a lot of people wrong

Expand full comment

He’s definitely worked on his 3 ball

of course he won’t get so many open looks (esp when he goes against 1’s) as he does in SL

Expand full comment

Seems that this is true but he does have the chance to surprise us. He is not going to be overlooked, that's for sure, as well as TJD. TJD has already proven that he can play in the paint with his undersized body. We don't need them to be superstars, just smart and efficient.

On the topic of Kerr not playing Moody or Kuminga enough their rookie year; it seems like there's only about 1-2 rookies each year that get 20+ mpg on a 40+ win team. Most of these are players like Chet, Tatum, Ben Simmons, Evan Mobley -- high lottery picks going to established playoff teams. There are a handful of notable players from lower in the draft with outstanding seasons like a Jamal Murray, Kendrick Nunn, Keegan Murray, and this year, Jaime & Podziemski.

As much as anything is guaranteed in basketball, giving rookies big minutes is a good way to fail to make the playoffs. I think the Warriors coaches should get a lot more credit for Podz & TJD showing out and getting starts this year than they should be criticized for Moody & Kuminga sitting on the bench in 2021.

Expand full comment

Why can't there be both credit and blame? Podz is a dawg. Dawgs make their presence known. Now it's up to him to develop a real game. TJD came with a toolbox full. His Dad imparted not only the DNA but useful help. He is truly a crafty player.

Moody and Kuminga are not dawgs and will have to carve out their place on the team or vanish. No guarantees are going to be made or handed over to them. Both have talent but how much? How do they fit into the overall picture of the Dubs? We don't know yet. With new vets added, their lot might be tougher than it has been. We need to see how Kerr comes back from Paris and whether he can lead this team forward in a time of big change.

> Why can't there be both credit and blame?

There can! "_____ should get a lot more credit for _____ than blame for _____" doesn't mean "don't blame them".

I will miss the spirit of this team.

Was Podz 7 turnovers a product of “most of my teammates will never see a minute in the NBA” or was he actually sloppy? Didn’t watch the game.

Expand full comment

He seemed to experiment. Good thing, imho.

Expand full comment

It was a lot of "let's see what I can do!" Seemed like a bunch of passes and dribble attacks that he wouldn't really try in a regular season game...

He seemed to channel his inner Curry in a few of them.

A few were sloppy but mostly it was a SL game. He had the ball in his hands a lot.

Bulls tried.......They've got 3 very good players in Buzelis, Drell, and Sanogo. Buzelis, #11 pick.

Warriors TJD/Podz led the team, both with double/doubles. Supposedly, TJD's last SL game. Hoping to see Post, soon. Any news on Bolden?

By Eli’s looks like he will be great.

Alright, time to shut down Podz and TJD. The summer league squad prolly gonna get a lot less watchable lol

Mr Plow full SL takeover upcoming

Expand full comment

Well...I sort of hope so, but only for his sake. I suspect the Dubs two-ways are less about potential and more about insurance, which is why they have Beekman and Spencer (point guards) penciled in. Catch 22 here. If he continues to shoot well enough to change minds then probably some other team will sign him. We will see.

That’s what I call him too.

Maybe Kerr should add Vereen to his coaching staff to fill the defensive hole left by Brown.

Read that he is a player development coach on Kerr's staff.

Expand full comment

Time to promote him

Expand full comment

What he's doing with the SL team, such as the way he has them playing team defense, shows he's really good at working with young players. So at least for this year, maybe he's in exactly the right position.

Expand full comment

I was thinking that as well. He deserves it.

Expand full comment

Does Podz look bigger this summer? Vesconi is 6'3" and he looks miniature in comparison.

Expand full comment

Yeah, thought the same thing when he was standing next to Q’Spoon last game — he towered over him. Looks every bit of 6’-5” (though with shortish arms).

Expand full comment

By combine measurements, he has less than an inch over Q. But if he is 6'5" now, that bodes well for him being able to lock down star guards like prime Klay. Klay (and Draymond, actually) measured 6'5.75" with much more length, but Podz seems more athletic and quick than prime Klay was. It was fun watching him be the low man help defender on a bunch of plays today and switching between guards that beat their guys, cutting off rollers, boxing out on the boards, etc.

Whoa, I think that’s the first time I saw Podz make a dunk!

I got a good feeling about this Podz guy...

No longer do I want him involved in any trade for any avail player this summer.

Didn't see SL, but Podz has been sneakily making his way into 'untouchable' territory for me, over any of the other young 'uns. I was NOT a believer when he was drafted, to put it mildly.

lol Larry Harris knows the 6'9" under meme

Lauri to the Bay confirmed. :-)

Expand full comment

Man…what % chance do you put that trade happening for us now?

Thinking Ainge was just dickin w everyone involved on that one. A distraction tactic for his rivals from the other FA’s avail at the time?

Expand full comment

Still think it makes a ton of sense for both teams, if they can agree on the number of picks.

Expand full comment

Hope Podz isn’t involved

A Steph Podz JK Dray Lauri lineup would be juicy

Expand full comment

We're going to have to give up value somewhere to get LM. If it isn't Podz, maybe JK. I don't see Ainge wanting Wiggs. LM makes $18M. Maybe Ainge takes GP2 and Loon because they're expiring deals but if so we're going to have to give him a bunch of 1st round picks. Otherwise we're giving up prime talent.

He'll probably only move with talent and a load of picks I think.

Podz, in true Steph disciple fashion, is now going for highlight passes to set up other guys, while Trayce is engaged in hand to hand combat with the bruising big man Sanogo.

Expand full comment

Get plowden in here asap he's better then any 2 way contract we've had in the last idk how many years.

Expand full comment

To me, Plowden can take Spencer's 2-way right now.

Expand full comment

I agree 80%.. But the problem is that Spencer is a point guard and we are thin at that position. Is Spencer NBA ready? I have absolutely no idea but if/when Steph or Podz misses a few games I see Spencer getting some minutes. Or maybe Beekman, but we haven't seen him play yet.

Plowden, for all of his exciting summer league play, is a wing and we are actually pretty deep in the 6'6"-6'8" athletic wing/small forward category (Wiggins, Kuminga, Moody, Santos and Waters. Plus Hield, who is only 6'4" but might be a 2 instead of a 3 and GP2 who is also more a a 2-3 versus a point.

Yes, Draymond and Anderson can play point forward but I don't think we are going to sacrifice depth at the point for a 2-way wing so it really becomes Plowden versus Waters

Expand full comment

I don’t think Spencer is an NBA player. He has a lovely story, lacrosse star, brother in the league, all that, but he can’t help us, no matter what position he plays. Beekman is a rookie so we’ll have to wait and see whether he can contribute. If Plowden isn’t a fit, we better keep looking because Spencer isn’t it.

Waters has a guaranteed regular roster spot; his option was picked up two weeks ago. He’s here unless traded. So it’s not Waters vs Plowden.

Expand full comment

Well, not directly but we could trade him back for some picks if we believed that was the right choice; I have no opinion on Waters, just saying as much as I liked Plowden's play we have a need at point.

Expand full comment

We could trade him back if OKC would take him back, which they won't because they're already deep at that position and don't need him. That's probably why they dealt him to us in the first place.

Expand full comment

Hopefully, Rivers can play some point...

Expand full comment

That is going to be an awkward conversation. Does Spencer still stay on the SL team after getting his two way revoked?
