Was thinking about Steph and the magic childlike joy he plays with (to match that psycho killer mentality too), and who else (let alone a superstar) has played that way?
Do we have to go all the way back to Magic Johnson? No one else springs to mind but I'm sure I'm missing some 🤷🏽♂️
If that's the case, I hope as much as kids wanna grow up shooting like Steph, they feel like they can still play with that same childlike exuberance 😊 and not have to "act" all tough - here's looking at you [insert whoever comes to mind first].
Can Cryer get that low shot release off against NBA defenders? His transfer from dribble to shot looks very fluid so that helps, but how about off the catch?
Will have to see how he does over an extended period of time, I remember Quinones lighting it up in one of the Cali Classic games that had some people talking about whether the Warriors should sign him to the 15 man roster but finishing with a pretty terrible shooting percentage once it was all over. But I hope he pans out because I'd rather the Warriors take a flyer on a guy like Cryer than a guy like Beekman/Chiozza/another ballhandler who can't dribble into shots.
It has been awhile since the Warriors had anyone like him. He is one of those guys that can just play. That step back jumper he made must have been close to 10 feet of space created.
He is barely 6 ft but he is strong and tough. Give me him any day of the week over all the guards like Beekman and the other guys the last several years.
I’ll take him over our favorite lacrosse player too. Hope that doesn’t offend any Spencer fans.
No significant traction on the Jonathan Kuminga front over the weekend, per sources. Restricted free agency around the NBA remains ice cold. Conversations and little action. Kings have been strongest pursuer of Warriors’ wing, but nothing has come close. @anthonyVslater
If the Kings are the strongest pursuer, then we've got nothing so far. Their 'offer' was putrid. There is no way the Warriors would accept that, except to get the drama over with. They would be far better off to keep JK. And the team and the athlete may yet come to that conclusion. They are an uneasy marriage, but maybe better for each other than any of the available alternatives.
I know the latest news was JK would have meetings at Summer League. Are we sure that will resolve anything? Or will this drag for another 6 months until the trade deadline?
Such a self inflicted wound by a competent organization.
What would you be doing now? Not a year ago, as you were saying they should have traded him.
All the stuff before this is water under the bridge at this point.
The trade rumors I've heard have not been worth the candle. I've said this before, but I'm glad the Dubs are being patient. MDJ finding his inner Danny Ainge and insisting on a very good return is not a bad thing.
Worse comes to worst (and IMHO, it's a good outcome), you sign him for a low-market contract and keep him to the trade deadline.
Not sure what else they should do? Offer him a max contract so he'll sign today? As long as his agent wants more than he's worth, and no other teams are offering that contract, seems like waiting until he has no leverage is the smart move for the team.
The smart move was always trading him in my view. But at this point? Nothing to do. Maybe they could have straight up renounced him at the start of FA and gone after some of the guys in FA. I'm not sure if getting Ty Jerome was worth it. But I'd listen to an argument. And they could have used the BAE and TPE as well.
But more likely - last year? Or the year before? There were plenty of opportunities to cash in on JK while his value was high. The team that won the championship literally just won partially because they traded Josh Giddey for Caruso instead of going through this song and dance. This situation was 100% predictable.
I was under the impression that the Ws wouldn't have a lot of money for free agency if they renounced JK. Is that not the case? Because otherwise, no point in renouncing him if it doesn't greatly increase the amount the team can spend. They'd be giving up an asset for pretty much nothing.
They had access to three tools if they could get under the first apron (about $25 million from where they sit today): the NTPMLE (~$14M), the SloMo TPE (~$8M) and the BAE (~$5M). If JK signs for ~$25M or less, they have access to the TPMLE ($5.7M). If he signs for more, they have nothing but mins.
These new aprons make navigating these situations calculus problems. But if you are waiting out a RFA who wants a ton of money and is willing to wait out the market, it makes it like solving math problems that no one has been able to prove. Basically, it highjacks your entire offseason.
If the Dubs are able to get Horford (and this is counting chickens waaaaay before they hatch), they'll have been incredibly lucky. To get a FA with talent who is willing to wait out the entirety of the FA period before putting pen to paper? That would be amazing.
But this might all be spilt milk under the bridge. It's not like they could take Saric and Carter.
If they can’t get a guy that is going to make a difference now the best path is to find out what JK is capable of. If we get Horford, start Curry, Podz, JK, JB and AH. Make Draymond the 6th man. Have Post back up AH.
Make a couple small adjustments that really help JK and give it 30 games. They need scoring and athleticism to get thru the 82 games without killing the old guys. Do they have anyone better than JK if he takes another step up?
Poole wasn’t exactly the perfect Kerr guy but he was extremely valuable and productive in 2022.
Maybe he increases his value. Maybe he actually becomes a real piece. Maybe it blows up.
If they can’t get what they want right now, what’s the point of getting nothing?
He was good enough to have a really good streak until he got hurt, even earning a lot of praise from Kerr.
I would rather have Trey Murphy or Herb Jones or Cam but we don’t have them. I would like to have a lot of guys.
Maybe it is time for a little more flexibility and creative thinking and making better use of what we do have, if this is it.
[[ The Milwaukee Bucks and Ryan Rollins have agreed to a three-year, $12 million deal, which includes a third-year player option, sources confirm. ESPN first to report. As mentioned on @hoopshypeofficial.bsky.social, Rollins drew interest from the Bucks, Suns, Spurs, Blazers, and Lakers in free agency. ]]
Great recovery from his Washington days. Good for him. Wish we'd been able to keep him (a backup PG who can play D would be very nice right about now).
I listened to Lainn Wilson's postgame and he didn't say much about Toohey:
Q. Expect Alex to play Tuesday?
LW: Not sure yet. I mean, I think I don't know if we're still waiting on clearance or not. I haven't been told anything, so we'll kind of see when we get there.
I did not expect to like Cryer nearly this much, but damn he’s a player. Worth a two-way at the least. Very fast, played very good defense - there was never really a point in the game where I could point to his size being a defensive liability, maybe because he’s built like Patrick Beverley if Beverley was built kinda like Kyle Lowry - and he’s got real scoring chops without being the truly shameless style of scorer like Clarkson or Crawford.
I think he could get you 10 points a night against NBA bench units right now, with a chance to grow his floor game and be a more complete player.
Mobley's has nice footwork and shiftiness in the post, and his ability to cash the inevitable FTs when he gets his defender out of position is also good. I see the pedigree.
Was thinking about Steph and the magic childlike joy he plays with (to match that psycho killer mentality too), and who else (let alone a superstar) has played that way?
Do we have to go all the way back to Magic Johnson? No one else springs to mind but I'm sure I'm missing some 🤷🏽♂️
GP2 comes to mind. Not a superstar, but who else in the league would untie an opponent's shoes during a free throw attempt? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTmHq4NLya0
Omg how did I forget GP!!
A name that comes to mind to me is White Chocolate Jason Williams. Absolutely amazingly fun player. Nowhere near the skill of Steph of course.
I think you're right. At least, no one else comes to mind. And before Magic... I can't think of anyone.
If that's the case, I hope as much as kids wanna grow up shooting like Steph, they feel like they can still play with that same childlike exuberance 😊 and not have to "act" all tough - here's looking at you [insert whoever comes to mind first].

Yeah, he currently seems like a reasonable use of the backup-pg-on-a-2-way slot.

If Kings offer Ellis and/or Murray, I'm in. But Sacramento has a high value for both of them, so I don't think they'll give the Warriors a good offer.
If they won’t trade Ellis for JK that doesn’t bode well for JK’s value.
I like Ellis and would welcome him here but he is certainly not highly regarded like a potential all star.

The new CBA is showing its teeth.
Haha. Check it out.

Happy for him. Hopefully he manages to stick and become a rotational NBA player
Couldn’t watch today. Why no Toohy?
I was live so I don’t know if they discussed on the broadcast. Perks didn’t know either but planned to ask in the postgame press conference.
I listened to Lainn Wilson's postgame and he didn't say much about Toohey:

Is that Rainn's brother?
Or maybe Owen&Luke, Lainey or Rebel sibling?
I watched part of the game with Perks. He tells me that Plowden was waived. Just in case you want to get your hopes up again.
The return of Mr. Plow?
Mr. Plow Strikes Back

Let Cryer take this last shot
Fun ending. Richard launched the game winning try and it bounces twice on the rim… miss
Richard with a BIG 3 down the stretch. 1 pt down with a review of a foul call.
Richard and Cryer have been good and entertaining. The starters are crushing it but the no-ballhandler play-everyone-else lineups gave it all back.
It’s gonna be an always close enough to hurt ending.
Cryer hanging with Nelson well enough to have SAS screening him off. Cryer then hangs with the big roller on the iso.
Mobley had been pretty controlled today. But chaos now missing a dunk.
Cryer with another 3. May be a couple of threes away from becoming a folk hero.
Very curious to carefully watch him guard JN Jr
Mobley's has nice footwork and shiftiness in the post, and his ability to cash the inevitable FTs when he gets his defender out of position is also good. I see the pedigree.
He seems to see the court/game well and plays a team game on defense.
I was just about to type “Cryer looks like a guy who should’ve been drafted.” and St. Jean and the other announcer started making similar remarks.
Yeah he really stands out on the court.
Jameer Nelson Jr is crazy fast. Maaaaaybe Cryer can stay with him, no one else has a chance.
Jameer Nelson's son being in the NBA is a real "wow am I really that old?" moment
