So apparently weโll be getting anthony slater on ESPN semi weekly with a dubs stock report. The whole thing is worth a listen.
However, this particular portion regarding Jimmy Butler mentoring Jonathan Kamiga is especially worth listening to for those who question how valuable Butler's mentorship could be.
Slater goes into detail about the specific mechanisms by which Butler mentors Kuminga and what they are working on as well as how much Kuminga respects Butler and why that respect is important for Kuminga to better receive Mentorship and be willing to learn from Jimmy.
I played various high level sports growing up (both individual and team) but never basketball. I would love to know from people who have played, what is the energy/fitness expenditure level like compared to another sport I could relate to.
I feel basketball is unique in it's gameplay and it's courtsize and because of that when they say so and so played xx minutes they must be gassed, I really don't have a grasp of what they mean or would feel like.
Could the best comparison be someone playing 30mins of Bball over the course of the 3hrs of 48min playing time to say, 10 rounds of boxing? I really don't know but would love to to appreciate the players more.
Wrestling, by far. By factors I struggle to articulate. Each moment is an isometric extreme. When I could wrestle hard for three minutes, I could sail through 2 hours of basketball. I will concede that the pace of basketball is different now, though.
Ages ago when I was in basketball shape, I remember trying a game of badminton once against some regulars and that was pretty exhausting. It wasn't as taxing as bballl due to the breaks in between points and it being non-contact... but it's a memory that stands out.
It's the hardest of any of them, in my experience. If you play the right way, you're not only constantly moving, but you're cutting back and forth which is hard on the body and requires a lot of effort. Switching directions is a very tiring activity. You're also often jumping as well. Defense especially requires a ton of fitness. And besides running-style fitness, there's also strength needs -- fighting someone off is physical, getting fouled, bumped, fighting through screens, you need a lot of core strength for rebounding, on and on.
I never boxed but nothing is as taxing as playing all-out basketball. I used to run middle distance track and that was much less overall effort than Bball. Football was much easier, you stop all the time. Soccer is tiring by virtue of constant running but easier than Bball for reasons stated above.
True first-hand story. Ages ago (likely 1980s) I was at an MLB spring training game, because why not (things to do in the sun in Florida). Lazy fly hit to right field, easy out, except there was no one there. Dave Parker was over at the stands past the foul line getting himself a hot dog.
He mostly talked about Ayton and how he looked unsure what he needed to do on offense when he had the basketball in his hands. It was a far cry from his preseason performance, where he showed more confidence and looked more decisive. This was pretty evident during the 3rd Q when Reaves fouled out and the Lakers tried to run their offense through him, only for him to look lost out there.
Wemby's skill for his size is undeniable but I have a hard time imagining how his body is going to hold up. Can't remember the last time a guy his size with that usage having a long career but to be fair we've rarely seen someone his size
Yeah, we have to go back that far and even then.. Wilt was just an average 7fter/7โ1. I feel like guys 7โ4 or taller are in their own category as far as injury risks goes
Ralph Sampson? Granted, just 3 full seasons, then 5 half seasons, then 3 10 or less game seasons, done at age 31. Of course, medical knowledge was 35 years older, but then we still haven't really solved the problem of bigs' knees.
Wemby's listed as an inch shorter and 7 lb heavier, so I'll give him a bit more robust build. Most teams are much smarter about preserving their special bigs' knees these days, so he's got more of a shot than sampson did.
Keon was converted from a 2-way to a multi-year NBA contract Feb 9th 2024, terms undisclosed. So it appears the kangs have no rights beyond the duration of this deal. Wonder if he'll become a UFA right when the dubs are doing the post-big3 retooling summer of 2027?
That kid VJ Edgecombe is a damn bucket. Can't imagine them wanting to keep Maxey, VJ and Jared McCain for the long run. I wonder who will be the odd man out.
True story: I went to an eatery in Prague and there was "Knee" on the menu although it didn't say of what. The person I was with ate it, then as we were walking through the crowds felt quite green, excused themselves, went in an alleyway, and came back with a smile saying "I feel several pounds lighter."
- Portland is going to be a tough game coming off of a back-to-back
- Suns getting absolutely cooked on defense by SAC. They also let Brooks shoot 15 times in the 1st half lol. Is Maluach injured? He hasn't gotten a single minute so far.
Nothing about Maluach being injured. Instead pre-game reports said he'd be coming off the bench spelling starter Ighodaro (who?). But that didn't happen, instead Mark Williams got his minutes. Maybe Maluach mouthed off to a coach? (pure speculation, I don't think he's a head case and he was doing well pre-season). I really really like maluach the player, a 7 foot wide shouldered solid build guy with soft hands and high motor, might be the steal of the draft as a 10th pick. And I am not a duke fan, I'm with carolina.
Mark Williams, sigh. That's a serviceable cheap big who was available for peanuts. Why couldn't the dubs pick him up, except they seem to not value having an average cheap big body who can bang? I don't care that the disfunctional flakeshow front office rescinded a trade on a phony medical pretext and in the process fucked Dalton Knecht's head into a pretzel.

And baseball is a joke for the most part.
Yeah, except pitching, which is insane. It looks a lot easier than it is, like by orders of magnitude
Yeah I wouldn't even include it. Some very out of shape dudes do well in that "sport."
You can literally eat during it. Like most pastimesโฆ

That is funny. Intererestingly, , Dave Parker was one of the few actual athletes in baseball.
Or, if you're Wade Boggs, drink during it.
A Lakers fan did a short breakdown on the Lakers-Warriors game last night.

Don't look now but Mr. Health is bacccckkkkk!!!
Zion Williamson: 27 9 and 5 plus 5 steals.
I'd forgotten he was a professional basketball player.
Wemby's skill for his size is undeniable but I have a hard time imagining how his body is going to hold up. Can't remember the last time a guy his size with that usage having a long career but to be fair we've rarely seen someone his size
The closest player in the modern era would maybe be... Porziลฤฃis at 7'2" 240lbs (vs. Wemby at 7'4" 235)?
Wilt? 14 year career averaging almost 46 minutes/game
Which adds proof to your point tho cause Wilt was an absolute rarity and he'd be eye-to-eye with Wemby's chin lol
Yeah, we have to go back that far and even then.. Wilt was just an average 7fter/7โ1. I feel like guys 7โ4 or taller are in their own category as far as injury risks goes

Good comp since their build is pretty identical. It would be a disappointment if Wembys career ended up like that

Kareem.
Kareem at 7โ2 is normal height compared to this alien
Hence it's over when he develops the SpaceHook
lol Kangz
Edit to add: lol Clips, Lakers, Mavs, Celtics, Hawks.
Kings held off on trading Keon Ellis like he's a all star just to give him 10 minutes off the bench?
Keon was converted from a 2-way to a multi-year NBA contract Feb 9th 2024, terms undisclosed. So it appears the kangs have no rights beyond the duration of this deal. Wonder if he'll become a UFA right when the dubs are doing the post-big3 retooling summer of 2027?
Kangz gonna Kang. Besides, wouldn't wanna bruise westbrick's minutes.
Lol Kings had a 20pt lead and are now losing by 7? Kangz
Wemby is absolutely dominating AD
Itโs not fair.
Wemby with 40 points, 15 rebounds, and 71% shooting. How are we going to contain this guy ๐ฉ?
MVP Wemby unless someone shows me more. Swear to God he looks so impressive.
That kid VJ Edgecombe is a damn bucket. Can't imagine them wanting to keep Maxey, VJ and Jared McCain for the long run. I wonder who will be the odd man out.
Embiid. 1-9 and healthy.
OK, OK, he's a real one when healthy -- but I'm still bitter that he got an MVP over Jokic. Ridonkulous
I think his knees are officially cooked. Like well done cooked.
Hmmmm.... Is cooked knee tasty?Asking for other carnivores.
True story: I went to an eatery in Prague and there was "Knee" on the menu although it didn't say of what. The person I was with ate it, then as we were walking through the crowds felt quite green, excused themselves, went in an alleyway, and came back with a smile saying "I feel several pounds lighter."
I'm sure. Like there's actually a place named "Prague."
No Show Kawhi.
The Bradley Beal curse is undefeated
That guy is so fake swear to god
Jazz rout the Clippers 129-108. LA's other team got dominated by Utah tonight.
Wemby is terrifying.
He is very fun to watch.
Whoa....Jazz???
Someone forgot to tell the Jazz players this season's plan involved water storage devices.
Had it up to 37 points, but played with their food and let the lowly Clips make it look somewhat more respectable.

Suns gonna win the game
Portland is going to be a tough game period. But yeah the back to back doesnโt help.
