Curry: “There will be games when all the ‘uncs’ are out, and they [the young core] will have to step up. So we want to be able to fill that gas tank as well. It is huge.”
Butler: “I think it’s just our job to be really good vets to them like we’ve had in the past,” Butler added. “Set them up for success, give them all the confidence in the world knowing that some of these key role players are going to be the reason that we’ll win a championship.”
Well, Ryan Rollins is a legit defender, and has certainly seen the Curry show up close and personal, so I think he’s probably going to get first crack at it. He’s actually looking like a solid all-around player.
Listening to the latest Simmons podcast with Leglar, he had some interesting leaguewide stats (yes, it's really early):
- 27 teams are averaging more fouls committed per game than the most fouling team of 2024-25
- 10 teams are averaging 30+ free throw attempts per game; 0 in 2024-25
- 11 players taking 10+ free throws a game; 1 in 2024-25 (Giannis)
Leglar called a game with 93 free throws in it... says in his experience and judgement it is due to defensive lack of discipline and not officiating.
All of this points to the offense being ahead of the defense. And we should buckle up for tonight's game, Giannis is averaging 10.5 FTA per game (which he's been averaging for years now, so not a new trend there).
But they've called Giannis for some 10 second violations! But ZOMG that slo-mo video of him finding a way to take 10 steps without a travel call is ridiculously unfair to defenders.
> But ZOMG that slo-mo video of him finding a way to take 10 steps without a travel call is ridiculously unfair to defenders.
It has never been traveling to take a zillion steps as long as you are not holding the ball. If it's bouncing in front of you you can do whatever you want. BBallBreakdown had an excellent video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqvz_STTVo0
JK, Butler, and Green have been on fire from beyond the arc (all three 44%+ plus, much higher than their career averages). Hopefully when they come back down to earth, Buddy will have regained his footing.
This rookie Jays pitcher Yesavage actually pulled a Steph Curry and walked off the mound WHILE Ohtani was in the middle of getting struck out. Dude didn't even wait for the umpire to call it. Haha.
Whats been so encouraging to see this season is how much better the spacing looks.
Moody as a real 3 point threat, Podz as a guy who can hit enough you need to take him seriously, QP as a pick and pop big, Horford as a guy you need to guard from 3.
If we can get a version of Melton back looking like he looked early last season (a guy who could play 25 good minutes in a playoff rotation), this will be a very dangerous 3 point shooting team.
And then you have guys who can really take advantage of that space in Jimmy, Kuminga and Steph.
It gives me hope that we'll have a sustainable offense in the non-Steph minutes and we won't be nearly as one dimensional in the playoffs.
An amusing tidbit in The Athletic about the Laker-Minnesota game. (The stars people bought tickets to see were all out -- Luka, LeBron, Anthony Edwards)
"The LaRavia scoring burst was a surprise to everybody, including Edwards. A fan yelled out, “Who is number 12?” Ant answered by screaming out, “That’s what I’m saying! I don’t know!”
Those familiar with the 2022 DNHQ Draft Tournament are familiar with LaRavia. That was my guy, still think his talents are being wasted if he is on a team that doesn't pass the ball (and right now the Lakers are last in the league in passes made per game). I think he's a good "connector".
I love his attitude. I think he's hilarious. Great for the game. Sports is part of the entertainment business, after all.
Did you see the clip or the documentary about the Olympic team where he's giving Barack Obama shit? You have to have a lot of moxie for that. If he were a mid player it would be cringe but he can back up any talk he talks.
He's funny, very talented, and has some humility despite his moxie. Didnt see him complain or pout about losing minutes in the later rounds of the Olympics, just seemed to enjoy the show
Reminder that the 2015-16 Warriors traveled the longest distance of any team in the league that year, and the Cavaliers traveled the shortest, in the regular season.
IIRC it was around a 20k mileage gap (50something k to 30somethingk).
Luckily Kuminga has been inserted into the starting lineup and Moody hasn't had to be "relied upon" yet in the second unit. But he did have that great game against Memphis on Monday. Hopefully we don't miss him too much if he's out for a stretch.
Sigh. Again? The season just started and he’s already missed several games due to injuries. Not an encouraging sign. Maybe, that’s why he’s not in the starting lineup? It’s frustrating since he has been balling in the last couple of games.
The OGs are fully embracing their age.

Yah, it'd honestly be really nice to have RyRo on the team now as backup PG. Oh well.
WHO guards Giannis?

I would guess the high-five rule is a big contributor, being a 3 shot foul that defenders are still very unaccostomed to
Legler addressed that specifically, and said in his experience that was NOT the case, which surprised me.
But they've called Giannis for some 10 second violations! But ZOMG that slo-mo video of him finding a way to take 10 steps without a travel call is ridiculously unfair to defenders.

That was basically an NFL running back play.
"Funny" schedule note... the Warriors' next three back to backs are all Tuesday/Wednesday affairs, with five of the six games on the road.
Looking at the back-to-back breakdowns in terms of home/away game by month:
Oct: 1 home b2b, 1 split b2b
Nov: 1 split b2b, 2 road b2b
Dec: 2 road b2b
Jan: 2 home b2b
Feb: 1 home b2b, 1 road b2b
Mar: 1 split b2b, 2 road b2b
Apr: 1 home b2b
home b2b: 5
split b2b: 3
road b2b: 7
Teams with the most back-to-backs (16) for the 2025-26 NBA season: 76ers, Nuggets, Suns, Hornets, Wizards.
Teams with the second most back-to-backs (15) for the 2025-26 NBA season: Warriors, Raptors, Blazers, Pelicans, Heat and Jazz.
For the playoff contenders in the West:
16. Nuggets
15. Warriors, Blazers
14. Rockets, Lakers, Spurs, Grizzlies, Mavs
13. Thunder, Wolves

He literally has savage in his name. Love it.
ha, I saw that and thought maybe he was trying to sell it, but it was a strike. Kid is so good.
Well... Ohtani had swung and missed, so definitely a strike.
hmmmm, my memory was of a called one at then end of an inning and me raising my eyebrow. . . maybe it was all a dream.
sigh. yup, didn't happen according to the interwebs. Not sure what I was "remembering". Maybe I need more sleep. . . .
If the Pelicans end up having a fire sale I really hope they don't trade Herb or Trey Murphy to the Lakers
I'll go out on a limb and predict the next CBA includes a Dumars rule to go along with the existing Stepien rule.
This is how we get Looney back for the playoffs.

Seth too. Not sure how many playoff minutes he’ll get, but he’s as good a knockdown shooter as there is in the league.

There was another incident where he was arguing about a foul call. Then he saw replay and told the ref "you're right, it was a foul" lol.

Totally agree. He's a huge asset to the league.
Not quite a role model yet, though. He was fined many times by the league for profanity
Warriors upcoming schedule:
10/30- @ Bucks
11/1- @ Pacers
11/4- vs. Suns
11/5- @ Kings
11/7- @ Nuggets (NBA Cup)
11/9- vs. Pacers
11/11- @ Thunder
11/12- @ Spurs (NBA Cup)
11/14- @ Spurs
11/16- @ Pelicans
11/18- @ Magic
11/19- @ Heat
Three B2Bs (11/4, 11/5; 11/11, 11/12; 11/18, 11/19), and 10 road games out of the next 12 games. This will be a brutal stretch.
Reminder that the 2015-16 Warriors traveled the longest distance of any team in the league that year, and the Cavaliers traveled the shortest, in the regular season.
IIRC it was around a 20k mileage gap (50something k to 30somethingk).
More B2B's, hooray
11/11
Brutal front end - hopefully that means the back end of season is better - health at back end might be more useful IMHO
The 2 home games aren't next to each other too, which means we'll be traveling after each game during this span. Brutal.
11 games in 19 days with travel before/after each one… jfc
Moving this from the other thread. Moody is questionable for a sore previously surgically repaired thumb.
