This was the plan all along and is unavoidable because of the 2nd apron. As of today, he can't be fit under the apron, so Seth has to be waived at the end of the preseason and will be re-signed in mid-November, at which point his salary will be slightly lower.
It is just preseason but am I wrong in thinking the vets have gotten their butts kicked overall and the bench guys have played much better? Might be wrong but it seemed like Portland especially had their way with the starting groups.
Yeah I think there were moments where I saw how well things could click for the vets but they didn’t have that sustained dominant stretch that I wanted to see from them on both ends. I’m gonna say that that’s mostly due to injuries though and that had they had their full lineup playing vs Clips we would have seen it.
Silver is on record making statements about "oh, watch the highlights, that what most fans want anyway" FOH this man has done a lot of good for the sport but this is kind of a "let them eat cake" typa moment considering the multi-billion dollar TV deal they recently pulled in.
With 15 B2B’s this season, how is Kerr going to handle them? Assuming he has everyone fully healthy, will all of the old core (SG, DG, AH and JB) sit out one of the games? I’d assume so, and the young guys can handle playing both games of a B2B. I’d also assume that the older guys (GP2, Buddy and Seth) are playing light enough minutes to play both. Given his fragility, perhaps Melton is the one younger guy who only plays one and will assume that in this thought exercise.
The next question: Assuming the games have equal relatively importance (as opposed to a game down the stretch vs. a team they’re battling in the standings), does the staff go with a Varsity and a JV lineup, or do they take a 1a and 1b approach?
If they take the varsity/JV approach, it puts a more eggs in one basket and gives them the best chance of at least a split. It might look something like this:
Other than giving us a glimpse into the future, that JV lineup is pretty shaky.
If they split the OG’s up into 1a and 1b, they’d be more balanced, but losing both becomes a less unlikely outcome. My guess at lineups:
1a Starters - Steph, Podz, Kuminga, Draymond, Post
1b Starters - Podz, Melton, Butler, Kuminga, Post
One could argue for Moody in one of these lineups, but I think these B2B’s are an opportunity to play big minutes to either showcase or continue to develop him.
Which approach do you all prefer? (I think they go 1a/1b to get bench guys like Seth bigger roles for a few games.)
I don't think this is how it will play out at all. Home B2Bs are not as stressful as road B2Bs so that will make a difference. Obviously injuries, even the small dings that add up, will require more rest. Kerr will consult with the medical/performance folks to decide when to sit the OGs. A lot will be situationally determined.
I think Horford is the only OG who will always rest one game of B2Bs, as he did in BOS. I expect Dray and Jimmy to need more rest than Steph because of Dray's back and Jimmy's injury history.
Steph and often Draymond and Jimmy will play both nights on home B2Bs, if not banged up. They will sometimes play both games on road B2Bs but their minutes will be carefully monitored. They might start and then be done for the night after Q1 on one of the games. They'll rest some nights depending on the opponent and how the team has been doing. And when banged up at all, they'll get more rest on B2Bs.
As we get later in the season, the amount of rest could also be influenced by where we are in the standings. If we do well enough early and can lock down a top 6 seed, the OGs could get more rest down the stretch to be fresher for the playoffs, but the West is so competitive that this might not be an option.
This is essentially what I've said before, but I think each B2B is going to be different, due to injuries warping the rotation (as we are already seeing).
But, the varsity/JV thing won't really work. Moody's making a strong case for being a starter by sitting down, since no one else has really stepped up.
Kerr will play the young guys a lot and Horford, JB, Steph and Draymond will rest on occasional B2Bs.
I don't think he's going to have true starters/bench mob lineups. He'll try to keep 2-3 core guys in the starters (but not necessarily the same ones each game), and mix and match around them.
I would say (1) pick the _easier_ game and go all out to win it, then (2) choose lineup for other game accordingly, but no one over 30 plays both nights. Strength in numbers, baby. Some might argue that two nights of light minutes is equivalent to one night of heavy minutes but I don’t buy that. Not suiting up at all buys you mental rest as well as physical.
To go all out would essentially mean the varsity/junior varsity format above. I agree about resting a game is better than playing lightly over two games.
Hey, Sleepy...What does COMMUNITY MANAGER on the MASTHEAD of the ''Dying Planet'' old site mean...Tell me it ain't so....I do not mind a writer doing it; they got to get funded anywhere they can, but ''management?''
Full disclosure: I’m the one who hid the copy-paste of the comment you posted below. Nothing personal, but I heard you the first five zillion times; and I think continually making the same point — however valid it may or may not be — is closer to spamming/trolling than to a serious attempt to engage people in dialogue.
I’m not sure why you want to go back there anyway, since you’ve made it amply clear how dumb you think it is there (and I don’t disagree with all your criticisms of it). But it you want to be part of the community there, I would suggest you do so by actually engaging in dialogue with other posters there, on a wide range of non-Klay-related topics, rather than just doing drive-by copy-pastes of the same KLAY posts you drop on DNHQ. The last time you did that, there were several responses along the lines of “who is this crazy drive-by dude ranting in all caps about KLAY?” and it did not lead to any interesting or productive dialogue.
If you do go back, I’d encourage you to ring the doorbell, say hello, and spark up a friendly conversation, rather than simply driving by and slapping a “VOTE KLAY IN NOVEMBER” sign on their lawn. 😊
See my note above! I didn’t even know that was my title there, lol. Seems pretty lofty for the ~$100 a month they pay me, lolz. Anyway, I hid the KLAY post, and explain why above. Feel free to be pissed off at me.
Lol not.mad or surprised SLEEPY. Keenly-aware of your modus operandi after nearly 2 decades of interacting with you. However, if you are going to engage in censoring comments you do not like in this site also, you are a liability to this community. I would also suggest it is not worth 100 bucks to keep a title in the "Dying Planet" when the NBA Community and DUB FANS are buzzing about a trade to get KLAY THOMPSON BACK and the sheer stupidity of letting.him go! Till JANUARY WE STILL HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY.
I follow the Mavericks fan base (because I too am a Klay stan) and there is no buzz about him being traded. They see him as a critical component to a championship run.
I just watch KLAY'S GAMES and try to gauge his frustration and ever-developing opportunity since MAVS broke up their FINALS TEAM and KYRIE went down, also. Doubt you will hear any buzz about a trade back to DUBS at the MAVS site...they would naturally talk about 'Ship-hunting just like we do...lol Try a bit of AI buzz-gathering....Good thing there are a few social and sports sites where their ''moderation'' standards are different from those we left behind.
You can call it “censoring comments I don’t like“ — that’s fine. It’s also sometimes called “moderation.” Almost all readers want a site moderated for obvious spamming and hostile slurs and such, but most readers also appreciate gentle moderation of less egregious things like misinformation, sh*tposting, incessant repetition of the same point, etc.
On DNHQ, Eric and co. seem to be cool with you regularly posting the same points about Klay. Without being privy to their thinking, I’d assume much of their forbearance stems from the fact that you’ve bought yourself good will here by politely engaging with people on a wide range other topics as well. If you did the same on GSoM, I might extend you the same courtesy there.
On whether it’s worth 100 bucks to moderate there… it does cover a few monthly streaming services, but I mostly did it because I was expressly asked to by Brady K, who I really respect, both as a writer and as a person.
Whatever, Sleepy...good luck ''over there''. You reminded me why that site went down the tubes and we all moved over here...You didn't have to write a confessional...I recognized your modus operandi, and knew your little finger was involved...I had some good engagement on the topic with others ''over there''. You know a lot more about selective facts usage and misinformation than I do. I just call it as I see it, and moving into CONTENDER STATUS by January is important to me and the next two years 'Ship runs. After that, we are looking at a restart no matter what.
(Whoops, sorry, I initially mistook you for Dino).
They still get a decent amount of comments, but they drop new diaries so often that posters tend to settle on one diary out of every 4-5 or so in which to converse. Sometimes the diaries that posters settle into can get over 100 comments, so there is still some life there
What I do not get is if STEPH can learn to play PG in the NBA, and we are in need of a back up PG, why the fak isn't PODZ (A SWISS GUARD AT SC) able to learn playing PG FOR THIS TEAM for all the non-STEPH minutes MINUS garbage time...after 2 years of experimentation, it is obvious he sucks at SG (as does HIELD, and MOODY is perfect SF MINUTES FIT) ...about time we brought KLAY BACK; whatever it takes, and quit wasting STEPH/DRAY/JIMMY/HORFORD last 2 years...I WANT A FREAKIN CONTENDER AND NOTHING LESS, and the rest is MDJ BS...KEY WORD=CONTENDER! I am no Jerry WEST, but would love to see STEVE KERR AND OUR GM GET ON IT!
CLEARLY no JIMMY/MOSES/JK was the difference in this last preseason extravaganza against the CLIPS BENCH, because CLIPS starters are too old...11 TOs between PODZ AND DRAY is very rare...
Yes we were missing Jimmy, Moses, and JK but the Clips did not have Kawhi, The Beard, or CP3. Also, a Dubs fan saying the Clips starters are too old is pretty funny.
Dray has long been turnover-prone because he handles the ball a lot and takes risks on thread-the-needle passes.
I think more of Podz overall than you seem to but I was disappointed in his game vs the Clips. Kerr says Podz had a great camp but with exceptions (notably the 23-point game), we haven't seen enough of it in the preseason games. But then, they ARE preseason games, and that's the time to try things out and work on adjustments. Hopefully Podz (and others) will tighten it up starting with the season opener.
I had the radio sound on - Tolbert kept talking about being reminded of Animal House every time Niederhauser was mentioned. Hence, why I prefer the radio feed.
And they had a great Blazing Saddles reference which was followed after the break with a clip from the movie. Top shelf audio.
APRIBOT didn't like Trayce's game but I thought he looked pretty good overall. He could have grabbed more boards but still, I wonder what she has against him.
It’s pretty frustrating to see Steph and Dray zip inaccurate passes that gets picked off but I can live with those sometimes. It’s hard to play perfect basketball at the pace we play at but I cannot excuse those awful passes in the backcourt especially on the inbound. Those are unforced errors and pure sloppiness. We can control those.
RIGHT, coming off that type of injury, there should not be any significant JUMP/RAMP UP in minutes...about 20-25 is what the OG starting unit need be playing in regular season games...particularly early in the season...30 minutes vs their bench last night was a bit risky, though the intensity was low...
Correct. Splash Brothers together again in a JIMMY/DRAY/HORFORD starting unit will result in big leads against most teams, and fewer minutes PT for the UNIT to hold them due to our deep bench. Not to mention better options for OG rest/injury time...
I have an irrational feeling this was a sloppy game. Inconceivably sloppy. There was one player who consistently exceeded all others and all expectations and i was frankly shocked he wasn’t even listed. Gary Payton. Steals defense open at the basket at just the right time. Extraordinary! I think he played exceptionally and rarely made mistakes.
I think your feeling is very rational...lol...Irrational is STEPH playing 29 minutes against their bench...clearly he is the main attraction and we were testing its ability to keep fan interest on this team...GM is a genius...
New long preview video with Perks up!
*I can’t believe we waived Seth! What are we doing?! It’s like they don’t want to win a championship anymore. Sell the team Joe Lacob*

Plus/Minus God was a huge minus..
Couldn't watch 😢 is the NBA delibertly trying to kill basketball viewership?

Steph...Gurry?
Would the rest rules from last season affect the stars on the team or are they old enough that they are exempted?
Yeah, the 65 game rule would apply. There’s no exemption for geezers, like there are with the load management rules.
This is essentially what I've said before, but I think each B2B is going to be different, due to injuries warping the rotation (as we are already seeing).

TJD is a solid performer and has demonstrated he belongs in the rotation.

Yep, I think he is even better now, also. He will hold his own, methinks, in about 80% of the potential match ups at the 5.

So why play Steph almost 30 in a preseason game?
It is the MAIN ATTRACTION...not much else for the FANS to see this last preseason game. GM is a genius...
Ramp up to game 1. Dangerous to have a significant jump in both minutes and intensity all at once.

Correct. Splash Brothers together again in a JIMMY/DRAY/HORFORD starting unit will result in big leads against most teams, and fewer minutes PT for the UNIT to hold them due to our deep bench. Not to mention better options for OG rest/injury time...
Makes you wonder how do the Clips come up with so much length at the wing position?
Obviously because they don't clip their wings.
