Andrew Wiggins is now listed as out for the Warriors tonight against the Wizards. Personal reasons. It's the open of a four-game road trip.

------------------------------------------------

#FullSquad will need to wait. Moses will get his shot to fight his way back into the rotation tonight.

Thinking purely of the nuggets. Who can the Warriors play on Murray besides GP2 to make him uncomfortable?

Wiggins couldn’t stay near him to the point Murray was visibly excited to go to work with Wiggins on him as if he was Steph on Gobert. Curry had no chance. Podz no.

Any time they really wanted to get Murray a shot they just ran him around Joker, which had me wondering if that’s why the Warriors didn’t try Kuminga on him?

GP2 was the only one making him sweat and the W’s pulled him after a sequence where Murray went deeper into his bag to get a score and GP2 couldn’t corral a Draymond pass.

Are the Warriors saving the GP2 all game concept for the playoffs? Or is there anyone else on the roster that can at least make Murray get tired legs at some point if they face off in a series?

Given how the games have gone the Nuggets should be beatable, but they’ve also got a ton of confidence, well earned too.

> Curry had no chance

Cute, but no. Steph played him well when matched up against him, forcing him into tough turnaround jumpers which he was converting at a high percentage. Still forced several misses.

Not that we want this matchup, but this weird narrative that Steph “had no chance” is fake news.

Expand full comment

Yeah… Murray hit some tough shots. The 2-man between Murray and Jokic is great and puts defenders in trailing positions a lot. Murray hit tough shots, you tip your cap. He’s a <58% TS player on the year… he won’t do it forever, we have defenders that we can put on him.

Wiggs can guard Murray, as can JK, Podz, and possibly Moody. He’s a great player, but not particularly huge, fast, or athletic; and one really good game does not make you unguardable on general principle.

To the extent Murray likes being guarded by Wiggs, it’s probably cos they’re countrymen who have scrimmaged together a million times. Wiggs probably enjoys guarding him, too. Some nights you just get beat.

An elimination play-in game v. the Kings would be pretty entertaining.

at this point the dubs constant ability to give away leads is causing me acid reflux and the Kings might not resolve that medical issue either!

The west is going to be crazy going down the stretch... 4 teams tied with 24 losses as the 5-8 seeds. The last games of the season are 100% going to be meaningful unless something truly odd happens...

On the last day of the season, 4/14:

POR @ SAC

UTA @ GSW

DAL @ OKC (OKC could be resting here, or hopefully fighting for seeding)

LAL @ NOP (!!!!)

PHX @ MIN (MIN could be resting here, or hopefully fighting for seeding)

On the second to last day of the season, 4/12:

LAL @ MEM

DET @ DAL

NOP @ GSW

PHX @ SAC

Of course, Dubs will be on the 2nd game of a back to back against the Pels; that'll be five times in the last two years that has happened.

At least the Pels will also be on a SEGABABA this time...

Impressive. After the Kings went on a 27-9 run, the Heat responded with a 11-2 run to close the game out in the final 3.5 minutes.

Heat beat the Kings 121-110.

Without Butler, Herro, or Rozier.

JJJ, Adebayo, and Love led the way for the Heat in points. Martin, Highsmith, and their newest acquisition Delon Wright did a good job as well.

Need to somehow get JJJ & JJJ on the same team...

The Kings remind me of the Dubs, not a real contender but fighting for some recognition. Both teams lack a true defense.

Either that or the 23 playoff series, six WC championships, and four NBA championships the Kings’ core have won in the past decade?

Draymond reflects on the Nuggets game. Says he had no answers for Joker and DEN had great PNR coverage. He thinks there are adjustments GSW can make if they meet in the playoffs.

I don't worry about Jokic or Murray as much as Aaron Gordon if GS were to play them in the playoffs. The first two are going to get theirs. But Gordon is plus 52 in four games against GS this year on 19 and 8 a game with 58 percent shooting, and I don't see anyone on the roster that really has a defensive shot against him because Dray has to be the Jokic "slower" (not "stopper" - that doesn't exist).

Expand full comment

Good news is they are unlikely to meet in the playoffs - that also happens to be bad news for the Dubs

Delon Wright seems to be a good pickup for the Heat. So far, he has 9 points, 3/5 FGs, 2/4 threes, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Watching the Knicks vs Pistons game, I'm quite sad to see Hartenstein slowed down by his injury which is obviously sapping his athleticism just like last year. Especially sucks considering he was getting into an offensive groove right before he got hurt.

Still, even while hampered, he had a solid 6 pts/8 rbds/4 ast game in 27 minutes.

Expand full comment

Not that wins matters for the Pistons but they absolutely got boned by the refs tonight. That last 15 seconds is some of the most awful officiating I've seen in a while.

Expand full comment

The refs are out of control this year. Something seems awry.

Monty Williams was not amused. If he's not going to impress in his coaching duties, he can at least try to win the post-game rant.

OT- Quite impressed with Cal basketball's recent decent performance.

Winning record in the Pac-12 late in the season... after several years of not coming close.

Shout oiut to Mark Madsen for what he has been able to accomplish as coach... even if this is hard for me (as a lifelong Cal fan) to do for an ex-Stanford and Laker player. He deserves credit!

Expand full comment

I went to school watching Jason Kidd on the court for Cal. I always wanted him to find his way to the Warriors and make them a winning franchise. In retrospect, I'm glad he stayed where he did, but lol.

Expand full comment

my goodness, it appears we’re of similar vintage! when you were at Cal did you happen to attend a tribute to KJ, and Barkley showed up?

Expand full comment

It was so fun to watch a player effect the game so much without having to score.

As I recall, Jason Kidd's junior season in high school was so good defensively many thought he could have jumped straight to the NBA. I went to U Of O during the Kamikaze Kids time (Ron Lee) then during the next years of Greg Ballard, Stu Jackson, Ernie Kent, etc. and saw so many great Pac- 8 players from all of the schools as they tried to keep up with UCLA.... but I grew up outside of Berkeley and have always been a Cal fan so try to follow them although it has been hard to even get to watch many of their games recently.

Asher asked the other day whether Steph ever has back-to-back bad games, and I let him know that, no, Steph has not had any back to back bad games this season.....

Apologies.

I was gonna take full responsibility, but I'm happy to share half of the blame with you. Asking the question only began the incantation, but completing it by confirming that he hadn't was the nail in the coffin.

Anybody watching the raptors vs pacers - this road trip is going to be very hard - Toronto is not going to be easy, besides the knicks and Celtics. The Washington game might be the only one where we might not blow a 15 pt lead

Expand full comment

And the Knicks needed a last second bucket to beat the Pistons at home… it’s gonna be ok

Expand full comment

I'm not sure if Pacers are a good comparison. Their defense is pretty bad. The only way they can beat opponents is by outscoring their opponents and trying to overwhelm opponents with their super fast pace.

Expand full comment

> The only way they can beat opponents is by outscoring their opponents

Is there another way? 😂

Expand full comment

Haliburton had an awful game tonight: 9 points, 2/11 FGs, 1/6 threes. Looks like he was part of the reason why the Pacers lost.

Just like Steph last night - sometimes the opponent has to be given their kudos

Well … that plus the fact they failed to outscore their opponent. 😊

So far, our record against the nine teams above us in the West has been bad:

Wins-7

Losses-20

And we still have 7 games coming against those teams and 7 more against the top 8 teams in the East. It is going to be tough climbing out of the 10th spot that we’re currently in. Even with our winning 9-12 record this month, we haven’t moved from the 10th spot.

7 of those loses we had 15 point leads :(

If we'd held those leads we'd be 14-6 against teams above us. (edit: 14-13)

Blew 24-Point lead to Kings

Blew 22-Point lead to Clippers

Blew 18-Point lead to Thunder

Warriors #2 in strength of scheduled played.

http://powerrankingsguru.com/nba/strength-of-schedule.php

They were #3 in SoS played after the Hornets game. It feels like every time we play one or two bad teams, we play a good team, causing the SoS played for the Warriors to go back up. This is likely going to happen in the next six games, where we will play: a very bad team, a good team, a bad team, a very good team, a team above .500, and a team below .500.
