well they are somewhat replacing his scoring - i mean someone has to shoot, so as long as its efficient then we dont need him. I do think we're better off cause for whatever reason his defense was/is horrible which messed everyone else up.

I just meant it would be nice to find that type of player who can score in that fashion but in an efficient way. but i haven't watched enough other teams to know - but it seems like that's a hard find and if we did have that it would become expensive quick like it did w poole.

NBA last 2 minute report confirms what many called out in the game thread; Aaron Gordon clearly stepping out of bounds with the ball. No other incorrect calls.

Which I read as "League office taunts Warriors by confirming obvious missed calls so as to extend the frustration of the evening in a game the Dubs clearly dominated and basically won, according to the league office."

Slater has a fun article up on the theathletic

"Warriors veterans give stamp of approval to Trayce Jackson-Davis, Brandin Podziemski"

https://theathletic.com/5046559/2023/11/09/warriors-veterans-jackson-davis-podziemski/

Some good snippets from the write-up (dont know how much I can out here..)

"But it was actually Chris Paul — whose direct opinions and fingerprints are all over so many layers of his newest organization — bringing up the issue initially.

Where are the rookies? Why weren’t we alerted?"

“They’re ready,” Kerr said. “We’ll throw them out there in any situation.”

and my favorite part of the write-up:

"Steve Kerr quipped that vets love rookies on road trips because they can force them to do things, which holds some truth. Not many have ever run an errand or grabbed Stephen Curry some popcorn with as much enthusiasm as the eager Podziemski, who sparks conversation with anyone in his vicinity. Jackson-Davis is a little more reserved but mature and sharp. He’s already 23. The personalities have meshed."

Did the poor BBIQ of the past rookies give the coaching staff PTSD? Now they seem to handle any rookie with extreme care and caution.

Periodic reminder that relative to last season, we flipped…

PBJ => TJD

Rollins => Podz

Poole => CP3

JGreen => Saric

Wiseman => Payton

Anyone want takesies-backsies on any of those?

Just did a retake. The symbols => also mean, equal to or better than. Right?

all of them have been better and/or more useful, amazing to do that for all of them. i'd say 50/50 on rollins vs podz but he was hurt most of last year and was required for the trade so....., could prob use rollins driving ability but i didnt see much of it firsthand so its just a guess

just Saric alone would have been made the change for the backend of the roster awesome cause jgreen - omg, he just didnt work out (injury, not fitting, playing poorly)

Latest news release from TJD Atoll:

“There aren’t many rookies that actually help you win games. And there really aren’t a lot of second-round rookies that actually help you win games. I think TJD might be a rarity.” GSOM

Well, TJD currently may not be able to defend Jokic on an island, but in the near future he may be able to outplay him on the atoll by dropping him in the center lagoon, and then running rings around him.

Don't know about that. 'Jaws' Jokic could become a thing.

All he really needs is the dorsal fin. He's already got the evil/psycho smile.

Yes. But sharks, like rays, can get trapped in the center lagoon where only rapid inflow from outside can release them. TJD Atoll is based on a firm and rising foundation which can wall off and prevent that inflow.

I think them blowing out the Fox-less Kings twice and the AD-less Lakers must've inflated their off., def., and net rating.

Slightly off-topic, but according to the Rockets schedule, they're in the middle of a 7-game homestand and are 4-1 in it so far, with the only loss to the Warriors. They face the Pelicans and the Nuggets later in their homestand.

We lost, but Looney did an acceptable job on Jokic limiting him to 35 pts on 56% shooting from the field. Considering he's been averaging 30 ppg, allowing 5 more points than his typical average while dropping his efficiency 6% from its seasonal average is acceptable to me.

I still think it's pretty non-negotiable for Podziemski to have a really good shot to make it in the NBA, but his basketball instincts definitely jump off the screen for a 20 year old.

Like this is just a really subtle, non-boxscore thing the way he knows Moody is open in the corner and runs in the way of Moody's man, you can see him point to Moody behind him which indicates he knows exactly what he's doing:

EDIT: Play also shows TJD's gravity on the roll which is nice to finally have lol.

if he can create havoc to leave our shooters open, he'll do just fine in our team.

He does need his shot to come around; thankfully a shot is easier to come around than a good BBIQ.

Podz mentioned he can get triple doubles but could this also mean his focus is split among different aspects of his game and not enough attention is placed into shooting?

That’s why Chris Paul wanted him back. They are going out in search of their missing dhot together.

TJD: 17.0 pts on .614 ts / 10.5 reb / 1.3 ast / 0.7 stl / 3.3 blk (!)

Worth a watch?

Couldn't watch the game (long international flight).

Expand full comment

Absolutely. I mean, not if you want to see crisp, efficient, beautiful offense (from either team), but if you want to see a gritty, hard-fought game.

Edit: but not if you want to see good refereeing. Steph got totally mauled by Aaron Judge Gordon on a layup with no call; then just a play or two later got blatantly goaltended by Gordon (ball had rebounded like 4-5 inches off the backboard by the time he got to it) with no call.

That moment felt pivotol.

Extra so because Steph was so mad about the no-call that he didn't get back on defense in time and the Nugs scored a quick basket, both times.

So, while I’m happy with the start to this season, and even the surprisingly close game last night, I’m uncomfortable in some ways I can’t really define. Some elements:

- I’m happy with fewer bench turnovers. But the play is more methodical (not my word) and less free.

- they don’t run like they used to. How do you play small ball and not run? (Yet they’re winning!?)

- fewer assists: Wiggins and JK both seem to want to make contested mid-court plays.

- is the focus on defensive rebounds suppressing the break?

I have the feeling that Paul’s steady presence is wonderful for the second team and potentially harmful for the first (though clearly pros and cons). Maybe I’d feel better if our wings were killing it. That said, I’m loving Moody these days.

I think the reality is that Paul just isn't comfortable running.

I'm starting to bang the drum for Podz to come in to push the pace. Between he and Kuminga, you'd have two players who could push the ball up the court faster. Kuminga is serviceable ... not great, but he will get out and run.

But, yeah, I'd like us to get back to running. Probably a lot of it is that they are just worn out right now.

Expand full comment

he was fine doing it in the pre-season on occasion but i mean he's a pretty old guy who's had hammy issues, so extensive running esp during the reg season isnt a good idea - even moreso if he wasnt/isnt usually running like steph is

i think its also a good change of pace type attack - but interestingly the starting unit isnt really just pushing it as much either - but aside from Wiggs, all are either getting older or just not that fast (Loon). It also just very likely is to preserve themselves more for the post season. It sure looked like most of our guys were worn out by the lakers series - a lot of that was from the darn kings series but still the overall wear from the reg season with the high pace and having a LOT less serviceable depth i think made it a lot like the 73 win season.

Expand full comment

> but interestingly the starting unit isn't really just pushing it as much either

Let's see what happens over the next month. The guy who usually pushes pace is Draymond, and he's still getting back into shape after the preseason injury.

But, yes, Steph doesn't even look to push much any more. If there isn't a hit-ahead pass, he just trots up the court with it.

I'm not sure why Kerr is OK with it. Particularly since the starting unit isn't exactly setting the world on fire right now.

Expand full comment

I complained about how the Warriors were playing too fast last season, which led to sloppy plays and turnovers. I'm actually fine with the pace this season; too much running will wear the team down.

Expand full comment

It could be that an aging core needs to adapt their tactics and do less running in order to sustain a winning effort all the way through the season and playoffs. Right now it's working pretty well.
