RJ Barrett was unstoppable when Toronto came to Chase Center. Hopefully, he doesn't have a repeat performance.

Dubs: It was pretty difficult for us as an organization to have a coach pass away in midseason, so it might not be surprising that for a while there it was difficult to focus on basketball. That may help explain why we don't have as many wins as we otherwise would.

NBA: Go fly to a different country and don't sleep all night, then play.

If Podz is out too (doubtful with knee soreness), who starts?

I assume they try to keep rotations mostly similar and have Klay & CP coming off the bench. Going against Quickly, Trent Jr, Barrett, Barnes, Poeltl, that's not a ton of size.

Does Quinones get the start? Do they go big with Looney or TJD? I tend to think Saric is a bad fit, but he could kinda stay with Poeltl, and he does provide playmaking & rebounding to replace Podz...

Expand full comment

I'd start Steph-LQ-Moods-JK-Dray — to preserve the chemistry of the CP3+Klay benchmob — but who knows.

Expand full comment

It's a good question. I bet they slide CP into the starting lineup and have LQ play more minutes with the second team, but I could see it going the other way too. Will bear watching.

Expand full comment

It's possible, but I really hope they don't try to play CP3 30 minutes on a SEGABABA, after getting to the hotel at 7am, in his 3rd game back from a long term injury absence...

Expand full comment

Don't really think it's a minutes question, I think it's about getting off to a good start with CP being the better choice, regardless of how many minutes CP plays vs LQ.

The moment I heard him say this I knew it was going to be a shitstorm, lol:

“Stephen Curry has had some memories here,” Anderson said as images of the 2009 draft flashed on-screen. "Remember the draft in ’09, shaking hands with (commissioner) David Stern, Knicks passed him up."

“The Knicks passed on Curry” is one of those apocryphal tales that gets repeated so often it will eventually become fact, kinda like Draymond kicking LeBron in the nuts, or the virgin birth of Christ… 😇

But the Knicks could have traded for the Warriors pick! They could have had a deal in place, just like the Suns!

Expand full comment

The Suns failed to trade for the Warriors pick (despite them thinking they were succeeding), no reason to think the Knicks would have had any more luck. The Warriors REALLY wanted Steph.

Yes, that's the joke, lol... Suns should have traded for Minny's picks, as should have the Knicks.

Hmmm ... substack seems to be going all in on the 'move fast and break things' model today.

Even the 'cancel' button doesn't work for me now.

Moody's defense was incredible last night. Normally, he would have hit 1-2 of his 4 three point attempts as well.

We've got Paul and Klay embracing an integral bench role. Shouldn't be that hard to ask Wiggins to do the same, especially given he has another 3.5 years on his contract.

Steph / Podz / Moses / JK / Dray

CP3 / Klay / GP2 / Wiggs / (TJD, Saric, Looney)

By the playoffs, I think Saric will fall out of the rotation and possibly Looney. TJD pairs so well Paul and Klay.

Expand full comment

I hope/think Wiggs reclaims his starting role when he returns in 3 games. Just enough time for Moody to pop and cement his role as key rotation 6moy with CP and Klay. Although I honestly wouldn't mind Moses displacing Podz in the starting group and having CP3/Podz/Klay/GP2/TJD on the bench.

If Moody enters the rotation, somebody does indeed fall off...

Saric please.

It also balances out the contracts. $100M starting lineup with a $100M bench.
