So it was a good game to turn off in the first Q. Wow Utah's legit.

Ok for the sake of discussion, if developing players wasn't a thing and we were only playing to win games, what's the starting lineup? Oubre for Lee and Wiseman for Looney? Would Wiseman be getting any minutes? It just seems obvious that development is being prioritized over winning in a way that i don't think we've seen before from Kerr with the exception of last year's lost season.

Yes. Maybe. But one change at a time. First move would be either Looney or Paschall for Wiseman depending on matchups. But I’m really OK with giving Wiseman more minutes than he seems to deserve if the coaches believe it is accelerating his learning. Got to be careful though he doesn’t get overwhelmed.

In some ways, this team is an extension of last year's debacle. Klay and Chriss out. Oubre not clicking. Looney and Dray with a minimal offensive games. Kerr's refusal to alter the starting lineup. No paint game, and no consistent shooting touch other than Curry and Wiggins automatic 15-20ppg. I don't think there is any iteration of the current team that is a win now unit. What else can they do but throw Wiseman into the fire. He's having more of an impact and getting the playing time that is necessary to learn this game. He is not the problem. The team cannot win with the supporting players they have. It's time for the Warriors to get realistic and make some moves. It's not a question of blowing it up, there are just too many subpar players on the club. Go through the bench and count 'em.

I know wiseman has struggled with defense and rebounding but I really don't feel like he is the issue with our first unit.

We just have no spacing with green and oubre chucking up bricks(also oubre ruining the ball movement) and for some reason they won't let wiseman spot up while curry and green run the pnr.

I feel like if oubre was replaced by lee it would open up the spacing needed for him to show his impact as a vertical spacer

They played tired. Anyone else see Steph stifle that yawn?

Yep I watched the whole game!

Wiseman was great with the garbage time crew! He needs more time there and less with the starting 5 (+16 vs -26.) But I guess he’s essential for creating the garbage time in the first place since Curry was +2 and Draymond was neutral without him.

Oubre was disappointing on D today, especially with the 2nd unit.

Mulder knows the game wayyy better than Poole and needs to get some run with the primary Bench crew. Favorite moment was Poole running around clueless on D, Mulder sees what’s going on and jumps the passing lane to get a perfectly timed steal.

I gave up at halftime; this one was just too miserable. Our defense was a farce and our offense was offensive. The team looked discombobulated and nothing was working. I have no silver linings or positive player ratings for anyone who played in the first half. Up and down the roster guys just played badly.

I think I might be losing my mind because I actually thought the Warriors might win that game once Wiseman sat for the first time because I didn’t expect to see him return. Looney helped the first unit close the gap to 8, the bench got beaten by 7, and then I thought they would put the 4 Starters plus Looney, Basemore, Lee, or Wannamaker in and make a run to close the second. Instead they rode Wiseman and lost 14 more points in 6 minutes just like the first few minutes of the game.

Why aren’t the coaches playing to win? How long will Curry bite his tongue if this continues? He was clearly unhappy out there today.

I thought they had a good chance too when they cut into the lead going into halftime. Then they came out in the 2nd half somehow worse than how they started the game

They went into halftime down 30 after the Jazz closed the 2nd quarter on a 14-1 run.

Right before that then lol

Hope is the first sign of losing touch with reality. Hope is about your desires. Reality is about what is. The only questions to ask are when will they make some changes and will they make any moves before the deadline? I think the FO are flummoxed. Is that a word? lol

It’s a pretty clear plan to prioritize Wiseman. I’m just not sure how good of a plan that is.

The only time the Warriors have made a move at the trade deadline was bailing on Russell. Not going to hold my breath, even with the injury exception.

Sure, I feel pretty much the same way. But nevertheless, the team needs changes made. Prioritizing Wiseman and his development doesn't change this. I only hope that they are not thinking that Klay is going to magically transform this group into a contender. I really believe the odds of that are small. We need better talent and talent that has real chemistry and BBIQ. Sometimes I think it could be a curse to the development of some players to play with Curry and Dray. You'd think it would be a blessing but it could also be intimidating given the amount of hype around the Dubs. Whoever they pick in next year's draft better have a real game. Dray in some ways seems like he has checked out. His decline is worrisome and also a taboo subject, it seems. I still think there's a trade lurking there. He has value. Dame wants him but do we want to give him to them? Can't see it although we could probably acquire a decent talent or two.

Just here to lament with everyone else. I didn't expect them to win, but I was secretly hoping they'd be competitive.

Apparently steph took his first shot when we were down 19-2? Doesn't make sense.

Also interesting from kerr: https://twitter.com/anthonyVslater/status/1353199416748855298?s=20

"Most notable Steve Kerr postgame quote when asked about if he remains firm on starting lineup: "There's no doubt that we have to assess everything as a staff, as an organization, how we're looking at this season, what our goals are. Everything is up for adjustments.""

Why is Twitter insane? Just reading the tweet responses to this announcement made me shudder about human intelligence.

Finally! How much longer can they prioritize developing Wiseman over Steph’s sanity?

Steph and Wiseman were dragging each other down. Wiseman was +16 without Steph, and Steph was +2 (+3 in the 1st half) without Wiseman. The W’s need to free Wiseman from those Steph shackles!

I added to the article a link to a video about the Klay 37 game. That will be a dose of honey after all the nausea.

Yeah. Thanks for trying but it is just rubbing my face in what is missing.

Paschall does not seem to play well in front of Mitchell. Thought this game would be different.

Poole’s regression has me seriously disappointed. I was expecting so much more from him. He is back to playing pre-G League rookie season. His passing is almost non-existant.

Wiseman is getting really comfortable with his looong 2 pointers- even with an open lane. That is a worry I will not focus on right now, but could be a concern down the road.

Overall another waste of a game, would not have felt as bad if we had handled our business against the Knicks but it is what it is.

Expand full comment

And why the heck is Draymond passing cross court to Oubre for 3 instead of near court to Wiggins for an open 3?

Expand full comment

Paschall was working to figure it out. The bench got beaten by 7 in the first half but Paschall looked to be figuring out what would work on O. Too bad they stopped playing perimeter D and never got a chance in the second half because the starting 5 was such trash. By starting 5 I specifically mean Oubre and Wiseman today.

Wiggins next step is to consistently affect the game. Too many games he'll just have a couple minutes stretch but outside of that he'll be largely invisible. Today it was that 8 point stretch in the 1st quarter. Had 5 points outside of that.

This team is incredibly frustrating to watch and honestly the most frustrating player for me is Steph. Stop leaving players open at 3... please! At least we didn't see much of 2 players running at one shooters, progress lol

I was wondering why Steph was shading so far off his corner man when he wasn’t impacting paint shots and the Jazz have been bombing away this year.

Expand full comment

The first couple plays of the game were dogshit, we ran a play to get wiseman a 3, Kelly oubre did a one dribble pull-up in his defenders face, wiggins dribble pull up then draymond missed a corner three, just like that ,down 14-0 and curry hasn't even touched the ball

Expand full comment

Made worse by the fact the Jazz were dropping warm up jumpers with ease.

Those shots were wide open. I'd have to look again to see who got lost, but our defense completely broke down and just... didn't guard guys in the corner. Ruinous.

Glad to see Mannion made a couple threes. His NBA career basically comes down to if he can shoot or not. It looks like he has NBA-level vision but a guy his size needs to be able to hit threes, both pull ups and catch and shoots (if he's a great defender, only catch and shoots are needed, as Beverley has shown).

I would add, one big problem is he can't get by NBA defenders off the dribble. If his shot got reliable, defenders wouldn't sag so much and he'd have better luck. Also he could play a bit off the ball.

Expand full comment

For sure, Schroder isn't a great shooter but he can get to the rim when he wants so it doesn't matter.

Mannion has some athleticism but based on the scouting reports I read after he was drafted, his first step isn't that great and he shot a ton of floaters in college (which I assume was because he couldn't get all the way to the rim).

Expand full comment

His floater was a nice weapon in college. He’d get rid of it really quickly and defenses weren’t ready for it. Haven’t seen him really trying to use it as a Warrior.

10 to 1 assist ratio so far though lol, pretty good.
