Voted Poole for WW because I think his contribution most exceeded the recent trends. Green has been rocking more often than not including while Steph was out, and Poole has been in the upswing but this was a good one for him:

- Scored a buncha points including a nice 3 down the stretch to help put it away

- No clutch turnovers

- Attentive effort overall

Between this kid looking more comfortable, Klay, Dray, and Steph all in shape, Loon being steady as usual, and DDV contributing effort off the bench, the rotation is looking a lot more like it ought to.

Now we need Wiggs to shake off the rust and get fired up, Kuminga to come back strong, and a couple other details to round into place. Lamb contract? Wiseman/Iguodala/JMG health? Big-man on a 10-day? Moody stepping up? Those would probably all be nice boosts though not strictly necessary.

Unless a big trade shakes things up, I expect them to convert Lamb into a regular contract. But they'll probably let him use up all of his 50 games as a 2-way player first, just to save money.

Expand full comment

Just like they did with GP2 last year. Even though GP2 was on the roster and killing it, they waited till the last day before they guaranteed his contract. They will do the same with Lamb because they can, and it reserves optionality.

I only caught parts of both the Bulls and Wizards games because the early start caught me off-guard (like Porzingis in screen-the-screener action)... but it felt like we didn't punish Vuc nearly enough on that end

Anybody know why I refer to the NBA Championship with the abbreviated version of 'Ship instead of the commonly used 'Chip? HINT. On the way to the 1st 'Ship of our Dynasty, one player retorted in a post-game interview ''We are going to be ''Shampionship''; anybody remember who it was?....lol

No true Warrior fan can ever forget Leandro's classic utterance!

Well, for one thing, it really *should* be “‘ship” since the world is championSHIP.

For another, ships are big and important and run by teams of people, whereas chips, while crunchy and delicious, are small and transient.

For another: Leandro!!!

Ah but nowadays chips guide ships!

I know the bottom feeders are all aiming for the very top of the draft but if im Houston, id hope for that second pick, scoop Scoot, and build with Scoot, Sengun, and Jabari Smith as your hubs. I would look to get maximum value for Jalen and KPJ in offseason trades

Expand full comment

If Houston were to get the #1 pick they might be able to trade down to #2 because whoever got #2 probably wants Victor and wishes they had #1. So make 'em pay for him.

Was great to see and hear Steph get into Lamb when he fouled KP when we were going on a run. Don't often see him do that so demonstrably.

Expand full comment

It was because KP did some sneaky hook thing to get a call in the bonus. Steph was telling Lamb “you know him!” Like Lamb should know KP does that stuff and be better about not putting his hands out.

Agreed, Lamb took it well...

Read some press releases suggesting that Kuminga returned to practice on this past Thursday, which indicates he could return for Thursday game, and that JMG is also cleared to practice. Wiseman seems still not yet cleared to practice, but he's probably soon after. Would be nice to have some bigger bodies around again...

I was at the game. First time I’ve seen them in person since the dynasty started. There were a lot of Warriors fans there. It was weird. Maybe 50%, at least in our section. It’s true. And when the Warriors scored the cheers seemed more enthusiastic than for the Wizards. And when we left even the ushers seemed to be into what they had just witnessed.

Also really loud when they were shooting FTs

Listening on the radio I tried to determine whether they sounded more like boos, but they were cheers.

What happened in 1949 that a team would be named after it? I just don't get football. Indonesia became an independent nation, is that what this is?

Expand full comment

Your question made me check out the 1949 wiki page... and today, Jan. 17, is the anniversary of the first VW Beetle arriving in the US.

And also: "August 3 – The Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League finalize the merger that will create the National Basketball Association."

Well THAT’s obviously what this about, then! And who among us does not remember the NBL fondly?

Expand full comment

This is an incorrect interpretation. The San Francisco football team is named after the number of different flavors of Tostitos.

Expand full comment

No, you have it backwards. The 49ers were founded in 1946 and Tostitos came out in 1979. It's obvious that they chose to have 49 flavors in tribute to the 49ers.

I'm fairly sure the Pilgrims carried bags of Tostitos with them across the Atlantic, next to their prayer shawls and Dyson bagless vacuum cleaners. I admit, they didn't have 49 flavors back then. Avocado was tough to come by in Liverpool.

Whatever happened to M. Chriss?

Expand full comment

He doesn't show up in the list of active players on NBA.com. Last season he was traded from Dallas to Houston. I think he was injured so he's probably out of the league, perhaps rehabing for another try, but I really don't know. I always like him.

Expand full comment

Thanks

Expand full comment

Houston traded him to OKC the end of this past Sept. in a multiplayer deal. Ty Jerome was one of the players who went to Houston in that deal. OKC waived Chriss in mid October, and I don't know what happened to him after that.

I liked Chriss too. In fact, I followed him from the time he came in the league because I liked his athleticism and wanted to see what he could do with it. But I don't think he's the droid we're looking for. If we're going to get another big, we need one who can defend the rim against 7-footers at least reasonably well.

I think all fan bases have a tendency to fall in love with guys who played for their team if they were any good, even if they were mostly bench guys. It's only natural to do that. Here at DNHQ some folks get misty-eyed about Bazemore, Jordan Bell, Quinn Cook, Chriss. Those guys are not stiffs (and some are better than others) but that doesn't mean those players can really help now or were even all THAT good in the past. Maybe in our system a few, like JTA or a health GP2, could still help us. JaVale McGee is getting old now (35) but until recently at least he could still have contributed. But most of 'em it's just nostalgia.

You mean that athletic 6'9" PF that we used at times as an undersized center who did some good things but couldn't defend big 5s any better than the guys we have already, probably wouldn't move the needle for us, and hasn't been able to hold onto a job in the league? That guy?

Expand full comment

Last I knew he was traded by Dallas to Houston as part of the deal to get the back-up center Wood, And then he was either waived or part of some other deal that I can't remember the details of.
