Prior to the game I was thinking this was a kind of "last stand" for the Warriors.

Sacramento is pretty much the highest team in the standings the Warriors can catch and their only route to dodging the play-in games.

But having seen the way the game played out, I'm not so pessimistic any more. While we did choke away the ending, the team generally played fantastic and gave up mostly shots they were willing to.

They were just outdone by atypical long range bombing from Mitchell, Barnes, Sabonis, Fox, and Lyles.

Kuminga has become a legitimate problem for other teams.

In true fan fashion, I'm now calling the NEXT game against the Lakers the must-win one!

Thoughts for the Hopium crowd.

Kawhi was 22 and Dunc was 38 when they won their chip together.

Starting next year, JK and Steph will have two years where both JK is same or older and Steph is same age or younger to their respective counterparts.

You might say, the difference was, the Spots had been to multiple consecutive NBA Finals, and I would say 2022 was a helluva lot more recent than 2007 was to 2014.

The difference was Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Belinelli, Diaw, Splitter, Danny Green, Patty Mills.

That team had the strength to lose 2013, with the miracle of Ray Allen, come back the next season and destroy LBJ, Wade, Bosch, Allen, Haslem, ecc

2013 was a helluva lot more recent than 2007

Steph >>>>>> Parker and Mills

JK < Kawhi

Podz < 36 y.o. Manu

Dray, Saric >>> Diaw

Moses, Klay > Belinelli, Green

TJD, Loon > Splitter

Just gotta figure out how to turn Wiggs into 37 y.o. Duncan…

There’s a reason it’s called hopium.

And I guess to give Kerr the benefit of the doubt, he knows that the Dubs have to have

Dray, Klay, and ‘chip Wiggs, ‘chip Loon so he keeps giving the latter two chances to show they can still bring it.

Another angle of the 'correct non-call' on the Sabonis borderline flagrant on the last-minute rebound which gave the Kings the ball to go ahead: https://streamable.com/uo7ayv

Look at what Murray does to Wiggs. These are both not fouls? L2M is rigged.

Looking at these reviews, I still don’t agree. What a load of Fog King bs. Truly the refs were heavily heavily fogged.

Yeah, that was a bad one. I expected more of a reaction from two players being hit in the face on the same game deciding play, on the same rebound, with the perfect timing to stop the rebound from being secured, but I think a fanbase that's demoralized enough that they expect to lose and are embarrassed by their recently downgraded faith in their players are a lot less likely to pipe up with gusto when they see some dirty play cost those players a game.

I'm more annoyed at the Monk flagrant that they didn't call for some stupid reason, but those do feel like more contact than purely marginal/ incidental should merit.

Luka Doncic had 10 rebounds and 7 assists tonight in a win over the Hawks. But four turnovers.

Oh I forgot to say: 73 points.

No triple-double? Obviously he's not as good as Russell Westbrook.

Wait if NBA offenses are at record levels and we are the worst defense in the league, how historically bad are we?

Expand full comment

Almost as bad as the Flint Tropics

Or the Washington Generals.

Scoring 130 is almost the norm in today's NBA. What happened to the game I love.

I prefer this brand of basketball so much more.

Overall points per game for the league so far this season is 115.6. Last season it was 114.7. That is the highest since 1969-'70, when it was 116.7. Scoring was regularly in that range throughout the 1960s but not since. Of course there was no 3-point shot in the NBA back in the '60s.

Wait so aside from Wilt half those are from the last year? I wonder if it got easier somehow.

Crazy that no one appears on that list more than once, except Wilt who’s on it 6 times!

When future Archaeologists study the basketball records they will have no problem judging Wilt as the GOAT.

They’ll send the kitchen sink at Steph after he hits his first shot but Luka is still seeing single coverage after scoring 60+

Okay now they’re doubling but still not face guarding him. This Hawks defense looks real

65 for Luka with 10:23 left.

We’re living in the juiced ball era…

Expand full comment

Maybe Kerr looks around and sees the juiced balls and thinks, "That's why I don't bother with defensive lineups anymore"

Yeah, it's out of hand. He and Booker might outdo Embiid and KAT!

They did. Gross.

Expand full comment

Why is that gross?

Expand full comment

Because my favorite team is struggling and consequently I can't enjoy anyone else's success! (But you probably already surmised as much, being a therapist.)

Luka with a trillion points and they are only up 10.

Luka is very dominant but I have a hard time seeing him succeed (as far as winning a championship goes) in their current formula.
