8 seed very much in play with the Pels and Kings struggling… if the Dubs and Lakers beat the Pels, Pels are only 1g ahead and we have the tiebreak.

Whoa, welcome to Kings-Dubs as the 9-10 match up. Only good thing about the Lakers win streak. Now, we're going to win 5 straight, and still end up going to Staples, er, Crypto, but at least it won't be an elimination game.

Cavs are talented but they’re so mentally weak

I'm glad the Warriors don't play offense like Mavs or the Harden Rockets, but I do sort of feel jealous that Dallas can trade for guys like Gafford and PJ Washington at the deadline and just plug them into the lineup. I never even feel like I know whether a potential trade target can play for the Warriors at all, let alone adapt mid-season.

Expand full comment

They could but the problem is how much capital would we be willing to give up for said player. I honestly applaud the FO going back to Myers for only giving up this years pick and keeping enough flexibility once we go in the toilet post Curry. And yeah I’m aware of 2030 but that’s Top 20 protected

Expand full comment

I think the point was about the Warriors system not being a fit for as many players to pick up mid-season, so while they could trade for those players, it wouldn't have as positive of an impact on the Warriors as it does on other teams that play "simpler" schemes

Expand full comment

The fact is we’ve been over the cap so often we simply can’t sign most guys who would make a difference, without trading a core player.

I wasn't paying attention during the game, but some people were saying in the game thread that Kuminga looked pissed.

Any takes on why?

Maybe he felt he could play and was annoyed Celebrini kept him out?

Or just annoyed at game play? He probably was looking at Moody (who didn't have a great game) and perhaps thought he could do better.

Expand full comment
Apr 6·edited Apr 6

I would assume he was pissed because:

1) He wanted to play but the Warriors didn't clear him (or just mad at his injury situation)

2) The Warriors were losing a huge game that he felt he could have helped them win

Wouldn't read too much into either.

I will assume it’s both of those reasons combined

Which people? Reddit people? I'm sure he's pissed he isn't back in the rotation...

There were a couple of comments in the game thread to that effect. I'll add a 'some' to clarify it was just a few comments.

Updated GS seeding odds, per BB-Ref

#6: 0.1%

#7: 1.4%

#8: 7.2%

#9: 28.2%

#10: 63.1%

#11: —

Still think the real odds of #8 are a lot better than that (basically just gotta beat the Pels and Lakers and I think the rest falls into place) but we shall see…

Expand full comment

It's still doable but we will need a lot of help from others(mainly Suns). Fingers crossed and hope we have a chance against refs on 10/4.

Yeah, it’s long shot right now. But if the Ws win out — big if — it’s pretty straightforward. Just need two of the following three things:

1. The Lakers go 3-1 or worse in their other games

2. The Pels go 2-2 or worse in their other games

3. The Kings go 2-3 or worse

Looking at their remaining schedules, I’d guesstimate a better than 50-50 shot we get two of those three. Again: if and only if we win out!

Expand full comment

Warriors win out p= 0.2 ?

Others 2/3 as above p= 0.5 ?

0.2 x 0.5 = 10%…. OK. A little better odds.

I think it’s more a question of whether they will play better rested or ‘on a roll’ and I really don’t know. But, if I were Kerr, I wouldn’t sacrifice any future strength now to try to move up.

Expand full comment

Assuming warriors have a 60% chance of winning each remaining game, the odds of 'winning out' are 7.7%. (.6^5)

I'd bank on 1 & 2 happening, especially since 1 of the 3 losses is guaranteed when they play Lakers @ Pelicans.

Yeah, and the Kings play the Pels, too; so two of the required 3-5 total losses are guaranteed (along with two unwanted wins, but still).

Steph now has the 4th most three pointers in a season; he needs 16 to pass his 18-19 season and move into 3rd place. He needs 11 more to reach 350 for the third time (Harden is the only other player to do that, once).

Expand full comment

Steph (five times) Harden (once, 378) and Klay (once, 301) are the only players to reach 300 threes made in a season. Harden also had 299 in 19-20.

Lately I've been thinking that Kerr & management know that there is virtually zero chance of getting past the second round much less winning a chip. The reason for a playoff push is to give the young guns a taste of playoff style basketball to prepare them for next season. Much will depend on the off-season reconstruction job by Dunleavy. More than anything else, they need a serviceable BIG man who can take 6 fouls against the Joker/Ebid etc.

Expand full comment

You have to admit that the Dubs have been very competitive as of late. This is how any NBA team should be playing at any time. But as you point out, they are small and I wholeheartedly agree about another serviceable big man. It's a must! Looks like Saric has had it.

Was it telling that Kerr held back Kuminga in this game? Couldn't they have used his size? I don't think Kuminga is our answer. We need to at least replace Wiggins in our lineup for someone who will bring it every game. I like Wiggins but...............MDJ should have his hands full this off season. We need some genius moves if the FO is totally committed to Steph,Klay,Dray. Lebron would be great but the fans will trash Chase Center, I think. Would love to see it.

> Was it telling that Kerr held back Kuminga in this game?

I think it was was telling that Celebrini makes those calls and Kerr doesn’t second guess him.

We are 5-2 in our last 7 road games; 2 close losses, 2 close wins, and 3 blowout wins. We shouldn't feel too bad about that, right?

The illegal screen is one of the most annoying and difficult call to make in real time. Just because a player got rocked does NOT mean it's a moving screen every time. I feel like referees are looking at the defender when making that call and not the actual player that's setting the screen.

Pacers beat the Thunder, Hornets beat the Magic, Raptors beat the Bucks, Spurs beat the Pels, Bulls beat the Knicks, and Suns are about to beat the Wolves. That's six teams with worse records that beat teams with better records tonight.

RE: restricted area. Amazingly they got it right. The RA is 3D which sort of begs the question why the out of bounds is 2d. (at least to me)

Expand full comment

3D just for feet? How about if the defender's butt is in the RA, or arms?

Expand full comment

I don't think it is "just" for feet but you know darn good and well that if it isn't a foot on or over that line there would never be "clear and conclusive" evidence to overturn whatever call was made. Im just happy they didn't invent an incorrect interpretation of the rule just for the Dubs. (I'm still chapped about a reviewed crunch time clearly kicked ball by the opponent that was ruled OOB on Steph , leading to one of the crunch time losses)

Lost in the sauce is didn't Klay try to intentionally foul towards the end when Mavs had the ball with around 26 on the clock

I feel like every in-conference team you play twice in the same location should be a two-game series.

Expand full comment

Except it sucks if the two games happen during the random time your best player is out. You're likely 0-2 instead of having a chance at 1-1. Yes, the player could get injured for the game later in the year, too, but that's less likely than being out in consecutive games.

Not saying I'm totally against it, but it's not a slam dunk
