It's been said already, but I agree Beal is probably not the guy due to defensive problems alongside Klay next year.

However I strongly disagree with those who give particularly high priority to the "future" after Steph/Klay/Draymond. Future championship contention without them should not be assumed in the slightest, no matter how much potential you might see in Wiseman, or the 2021 pick, or whatever.

If there is an opportunity to add a player that moves the needle in the next few years, I believe it is the responsibility of ownership to go for it. To not do so is IMO to take the current group for granted, and if I were Steph and saw that, I would consider leaving for a real contender.

Does Beal put us on equal footing with the Lakers next year? Probably not, due to fit. What about Ben Simmons? Paul George? Kawhi? You can take the thought experiment up the NBA ladder. At some point the answer switches from no to yes, and that is the player for whom they should go all in.

The likes of a Steph/Klay/Dray combo will not come around again in our, our kids' or our grand kids or our great grand kids' lifetime.

This is Wiggins 10th year. At this point, we'll see only marginal improvement from him, if any. Wiseman is approaching as many pro games as Embiid had at Kansas. If there are big improvements to come from him (questionable how big) it won't be big soon enough to benefit our star's prime. Moses Moody, Jaden Springer or Zaire Williams won't be contributing any time soon if at all either.

I'd mortgage the future. I'd take guaranteed lottery team in 5 years to get us and them another championship.

But even Klay's return isn't going to wholly solve this team. Klay is good for maybe 6 wins/year? That still only puts us in the 4th seed in the West. Not bad, but I'd like another piece to boost our guys closer real championship contention.

I think KAT should be mentioned just as much as BEAL. Both options need to be at least explored

I agree with some commenters that Beal is an imperfect fit. He's not a good defender. A lineup with Steph and Beal has two undersized guys in the backcourt, and even with Klay, Wiggins, and Dray that will be a small lineup that may struggle to defend and rebound.

That said, I think the crux of the Tjarks article is true. Wiseman is probably a minimum of two years from being a real impact player in a playoff series, and maybe more. Most of next year's lottery picks look like projects.

Basketball is a game for skilled tall people and a few - a few - smaller guys who can shoot and drive/kick. Tall is 6'5" or 6'6" unless you are Charles Barkley-like (not "The Round Mound..." but the slimmer, in-shape Charles). No to Beal. No to more short guys. Yes to Big People who can run.

On that note, JaVale seems like a guy who fit into his very tall body. Weisman can run, but can he catch? A couple more seasons. In the meantime, give us another big body with a little more beef.

I am in agreement with just about everyone else on any iteration of this proposed trade. I'd prefer to see how we look after another 20 games. Just for the heck of it, I check the standings about every night after the games are all finished. [Not much excitement out here when the cornfields are covered with snow.] If the Dubs had won the game in PHX, it would have put us in 4th place. A couple of days later we beat the Pistons and are in 8th, holding off the Spurs because we managed to have a good game against them. The west this year is going to be interesting to watch because only a couple of teams are going to stay in contention for 1-2. I don't think Utah is one of them, although I could be wrong. But even when we weren't playing all that well, we managed to beat both of the LA teams. Who knows what will happen on this roller coast ride of a season. It has been entertaining so far & I don't think that is going to change. Once Draymond gets into shape & Oubre settles down and finds a rhythm - just about everyone seems to be unaware that he had surgery & is still recovering from that and getting back into game shape physically & mentally - and Wiseman is back, I think we will be in pretty good shape. I'm curious what, if anything, Bob does with the Klay injured player exception when it gets closer to the trade deadline. And if we are players in the buyout market at all. There are lots of ways to improve that you don't think moves the needle a lot - but sometimes the subtle changes end up being the best decisions. I sure as hell don't want to lose Wiseman and our potential Top 8 pick from the TWolves because somebody listened to the hot take of a guy I've never heard of until he made it.

we need to add two-way, switchable players that can shoot to vault back into the championship picture. Next year's draft is stocked with such prospects, but Beal is not that, or at least not all of it. Yes, offense is going to remain a puzzle to solve even with Klay back in the fold. But we're not getting Beal without stripping this thing down to a flying gas can, and we've seen what that gives you courtesy of the Nets.

Beal is not the answer. I would rather have Lavine than Beal.

The good news w/r/t Wiseman is that the Warriors are in a pretty soft spot in their schedule. After the Lakers, they have a bunch of games with similarly fair to middling records. Presumably Looney and Paschal will be able to suit up.
