These awards don’t get me too lathered up, but I’m fine with Jokic winning. He’s fun to watch play. What I really like about this ‘era’ of big men is how different they are from past generations’ versions. Adding the 3 bomb to their repertoire is more than a little wrinkle. The only way to really abuse these guys is to switch on them and to exploit their slowness. Watching the NBA evolve around these increasingly sophisticated skill sets is great entertainment. Jokic/Embiid/Giannis are good examples of why I enjoy watching the NBA a now more than 20+ years ago. Helps to have my local team win some championships though to keep me engages ;).

OT: the draft. I know Belilaugh at minimum has made it clear he would hate it if we picked Davion Mitchell at #7-8, but after watching his latest video breakdowns with Mike Schmitz, I have to say I’m intrigued. He’s such an elite defender Schmitz broke his O and D into two separate vids:

Defense: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v0Tp1RhdGZA&t=96s

Offense: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iMtrKFLJT_o

Donovan Mitchell with the D of GP2? We could do worse. The draft also seems to be deeper in wings than in primary ball-handlers, so — if we’re lucky enough to get two picks, knocking wood — we could still nab a versatile big wing at #14 (say, Wagner or Duarte?)

Anyone been following the nets more closely this year? I haven't and have been been trying to understand the Nets-Bucks series, given that they're basically an amalgam of oft-criticized players in the dubs verse (their big 3, Griffin, Jordan). In particular, I'm thinking about how the rockets were able to grind KD-iso offense to a standstill, and how KD-no-curry offenses oftentimes seemed lackluster. Is the Nets supporting cast that much better than Warriors less Curry when KD was here? Is the Bucks defense that much worse than the Rockets? Is Kyrie enough extra juice to get them over the hump? Wondering who, if not the Bucks, has the best chance of beating them...

The stupid thing about the MVP is that if Oubre plays better from the start of the season and doesn't get hurt, Curry wins the MVP.

Looks like Kemba is done in Boston. Thoughts? I'm not necessarily advocating for him but what's everyone's thoughts on him potentially coming here for a 20 minute a game role?

This is kinda interesting looking at the number of votes received

Joker 100

Embiid 97

Curry 96

So 3 voters left Curry off their ballot completely and four left Embiid off completely. (Really, not even 4th or 5th?) Was that legit or are the Joker stans amongst the voters who felt that a vote for Curry or Embiid would hurt their guy’s chances? Have they released the individual ballots yet?

Jokic is a deserving winner and I won’t object or put an asterisk to his MVP award.

The only problem I have with Curry not winning because his team isn’t good enough is where is that line? If they’d finished 6th, would that have been good enough as it was for Westbrook in 16-17? What if Curry had scored 35 a game for the whole season instead of just post-All Star; would that have been enough?

Yes, it’s kind of a silly award, but since everyone takes it so seriously, there should be a better definition. And I’m totally opposed to basing it off a single stat like RPM or something because that removes context and invites guys like Russ to encourage his team to tank when he’s not on the court.
