Wait, didn't Quentin Post go to OKC? Why did you tell us the Dubs got him and make me watch an hour of videos of him???

I've been offline trying to get some sleep, and it appears stuff happened.

We traded pick 52 to OKC, OKC traded it to Portland, and we bought it back and drafted Post?

How on earth did we find the money? I thought we'd used most of it dumping Cojo?

I guess Eric will post a story soon, but enquiring minds want to know.

And, are Ponzi schemes legal in the NBA?

I've wondered this about the DNHQ lair.

Considering the high rollers that hang out there (EA, Perks, Daniel, and, of course, Sleepy), I bet you could buy a really nice sandwich with all the money they've left behind in it.

I am really happy with the GSW haul from a basketball perspective, but also from a Tourney perspective. GSW ended up with two players from the Tourney (plus LW3 who wasn't eligible). I feel like I have a good sense of what GSW brass want and also that they have turned harder into analytics than in the Bob Myers era. Post and Beekman are two of the best analytics players in the draft, just as TJD and Podz were two of the best in last year's draft.

All optimism should be tempered, and these players are all long shots to contribute, but for starting off with the #52 pick, this is great. These are exactly the risks that GSW should be making.

Yep, very good observation into the Front Office's trends and very nice work putting together a tournament list!

I find the Beekman two-way to be a waste of a spot tbh. 6'1 and not a very good shooter? How many players stick in the league with that profile? What am I missing, why did they sign him?

Combine being one of the best defensive prospects in the draft with being one of the best passers in the draft while also having a 6'7 wingspan (and being a decent athlete/having a decent handle) and u got Beekman.

The bet is that Beekman will improve upon his frankly terrible shooting.

I will say, I looked it up and he had 10 dunks as a senior which is nice. Davion Mitchell had like 4 dunks in his career, so that's nice.

Are dunks something u use as an indicator for functional athleticism?

Defensive pest, same wingspan as GPII?

Yes, that's definitely the hope, that Beekman can be a point-of-attack defender. Plus he runs an offense well.

Expand full comment

I just don't know how well you can really run an offense in the NBA if you can't shoot. It sounds like the hope is that he's Davion Mitchell?

For a UDFA, that's not that bad . . .

I mean I'm not going to get worked up about a two-way deal, especially for a guy I haven't seen play, it just seems like an odd use of a spot upon first glance to me.

Expand full comment

If the rules haven't changed, those two-way spots are flexible. If they don't like what they see, they can move them out and put someone else in that spot. Seems like a low risk move on a UDFA.

The extremely optimistic view: With the 57th pick, the Warriors somehow drafted a guy at center, who looks like TJD with a three, plus a good shooting wing who was stuck in a talent traffic jam in OKC who will be a useful rotation guy, plus a 6'1" guard who will DOMINATE in Santa Cruz.

The less optimistic view: We still have Wiggins.

No clue if Wiggins will be on the team this season, but I think he’ll be fine if he is. The last two seasons had a lot go wrong for him, third time’s the charm.

West Virginia's Jalen Bridges has agreed to a two-way NBA deal with the Suns, sources said. Bridges chose Suns over several other two-way offers.

OK I know there's gonna. be another article in mere moments, featuring the onset of the Post Era, and no one will remember this post, as it were, but I am here to say: I just watched his highlights and TJD might have to start worrying about his job. I like.

There's no way we could've known OKC was going to send that pick to POR, let alone know POR was willing to sell it to us, right? So was this something the three teams orchestrated taking advantage of the 2-day format or did we luck into getting a pick back?

Great question

MDJ addressed it. We went after Lindy because it's a player we've been watching for a while. Only realized later that they really wanted to get back in the draft... and #52 happened to be available. No original plan to do both together... it just came together that way.

"GSW hard cap situation, my best read right now is that they can take in Waters via minimum exception and avoid a 1st Apron Hard Cap. That doesn't appear on list of hardcapping transactions under Article VII, Section 2(e)(4). Capped at 2nd Apron after buying the 52nd pick though."

Why does that matter for next year, if the pick buying was made during the current financial year? Unless they are buying it after Saturday…

The rules are made a little wonky where teams are prohibited from doing transactions from the last day of the regular season to the end of the salary cap year have an affect on their team salary the following salary cap year.

So every team that bough a pick with cash today, even if the transaction processed today is hardcapped at second apron for next season.

So does that mean that Post acquisition does hard cap them?

Correct, the Warriors cannot go over the second apron level.

I guess it's wait and see on Waters. But from the description, that's a bit disappointing. How could they get a guy who doesn't defend well? I guess late in the 2nd round, they might be looking for a guy with one above average NBA skill. If that's shooting, that's not terrible in today's NBA.

The dude shoots the shit out of the ball and seemed able to do it in short stints for the thunder, and has decent positional size. He’s basically a bigger, better-shooting, slightly better handling, slightly less energetic Damion Lee. I’m good with that as a depth piece to go with a pick.

Lee is a better shooter, or at least has shot the ball better than Waters in the NBA.

But does he have DLee’s presence, mojo, and other imponderables?
