Someone please explain to Dray that:

- viruses cannot be killed because technically they aren’t alive

- viruses are extremely efficient at variation branching

- the whole vaccine method is based on eradication, that requires mass vaccination

- the vaccination method has always been the same throughout history

- 0% of virus illnesses can be effectively cured

- we’re lucky that COVID is relatively mild; a hypothetical airborne ebola would wipe out humanity

Furthermore:

- please explain why last season Oubre was m***********g for not wanting to be benched, while AW is excusable for missing 41 games for not complying to something that 90% of his colleagues did. I fail to see the merit scale.

>and adding Run TMC to the lexicon of Dub Nation

and making one young impressionable guy forever after love watching that kind of BB (I'm ashamed to admit that , though I was a Warriors fan, it was the showtime lakers and watching magic pass the ball that first ignited my love of the game).

Other early influences were LMU with Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble (and then sadly, just with Kimble). In my opinion the modern day dubs are kind of a combination of showtime, nellieball, and Paul Westhead style aggression. It's just so satisfying to watch (90's PIston era pro-wrestling style BB almost made me give up watching the sport).

Anyway, may we never forget the short but sweet era of Run TMC!

I was listening to The Lowe Post w/ Slater yesterday and they made a good point about the complexity of the Warriors' offensive system. They mentioned how Oubre, Wiseman, Wanamaker, etc just didn't know where to be and it contributed to the team's poor performance to start the season. I think this is still the biggest issue with Wiseman's game and it will be the determining factor on whether OPJ, Bjelica or the two rooks get quality minutes at the beginning of the season.

I think the Nellie-ball run and gun playstyle has been missing from the team for the last few seasons because the team lacked the players with the athleticism and BBIQ to make it happen. Think back to Wanamaker, Oubre, Bazemore fast breaks (sorry guys)! Once the opportunity for the fast break breaks down, the players need to switch seamlessly into the complex motion offense. It really is a lot to ask from young players.

I am optimistic from what we saw in summer league that Kuminga and Moody can learn the system. I haven't seen enough of OPJ and Bjelica. Like I said, Wiseman is behind in this aspect and needs to stop overthinking and develop a feel for what he should be doing during the offensive possession (and defensive too for that matter).

Too early to tell, but could Wiseman be a small ball 5 in a big man's body? One of the things that makes a big man a big man, and something that could be exploited by small lineups, has been speed. Big men tend to be slow up and down the court. Small guys can exploit this. Wiseman is big, but he is definitely not slow. Dray has said he might be the fastest running the full length of the court. Big men usually don't have an outside shot. It's early, but James appears to have a soft touch and an impossible shot to block given his release point. Can he find a couple comfortable spots on the floor, something like West's classic elbow jumper? JaVale was a big man, but he was a run and gun rim protector and vertical spacer. Can Wiseman exploit that vertical space? I think so. Point is, Wiseman is a big man, but his athleticism, speed & fluidity could, I am saying 'could at some point', allow the Warriors to play a style that looks like small ball, except for the fact that one of the guys is 7' plus with a 7'6" wingspan. My kind of small ball.

Speed kills. Seem to recall some college teams that didn't care if the other team scored or not - it just pushed the pace, shot (and made) 3s. Sounds like fun, although I like watching the Dubs play defense as well, and D has been a trigger for their offense.

JTA talking about gaining weight so he can guard bigger players is a clue too. Maybe we see more of JTA/Draymond in the closing lineup this year especially if JTA improves on his 3 ball a little bit more.

Pre-Klay return death lineup:

Steph/Wiggins/Porter/JTA/Draymond

After the Return of the King:

Steph/Klay/Wiggins/Porter/Draymond (I personally think this lineup is built to run the Lakers off the floor)

One thing I've thought is that if Green's 3pt shot never comes around again, then Green kinda has no choice but to play more 5.

So I wonder if embracing the smallball is in any way a look into the organization's confidence in Green's jumpshot.

That said, the Warriors still want some balance and Wiseman is still the only true 7 footer and roll threat on the roster. But by having the default being smallball, they can simplify Wiseman's role and focus on playing their best lineups.

Thanks for mentioning Don Nelson and his influence. For 20 (?) years I have been waiting (since Chris Webber bolted) for his principles to return. Man, that was some exciting basketball. Keep Lacob's vanity project, JW, in the G League and in garbage time this year.

Great article, Duby.

I'll admit that the Wiggins situation has cast a pall over the start of this season for me. Unexpected from multiple angles. Didn't think Wiggins would go so far. Can't believe the front office wasn't on top of this. Just very disappointed. I think I'm at the stage where even if he were to get the Jan today, I don't know if I can just move on.

Maybe it's because it links to all of the real life discussions about vaccines, mandates, conspiracy theories, and the like. Not where I was hoping to be or where I was hoping the team should be as the season begins. 😒

Dray: I can't recall the last time you've seen someone have success like that

Earvin Johnson: Hold my beer

(I'm sure that's not the most recent time, but what a success it was).

3D, I agree very much with your view. This season is going to be a shooter's paradise. We've got more gunners than ever before, I believe.

Looking at the Wiseman clips, he looks slow and awkward. Yes, I know it's just drills and that he is doing reps to get his rhythm memory adjusted but he looks far from ready and improved. Wiggs and Wiseman for Simmons sounds pretty good right about now but I really can't see that happening. Can't wait for the games!
