The Golden State Warriors continue their campaign for the best draft pick possible. Up next: the Philadelphia 76ers and their 3rd ranked defense.
Expect a fairly major nod to Kobe Bryant’s legacy, as this will be the first game in his home town since his untimely passing earlier this week. As Coach Steve Kerr said:
“It’s going to be emotional and difficult to play,” Kerr said. “We are in communication with the Sixers regarding ideas to commemorate Kobe’s life. We will figure that part out. It won’t make the game any easier. I am sure the fans here will be very emotional, given this is his backyard."
Overall, the Warriors continue to struggle in just about every aspect. According to NBA.com’s advanced stats, Golden State has the league’s worst offense, and the 23rd ranked defense. It’s hard to offer much deeper analysis because the Warriors do so few things well.
Here’s a great (but painful) visualization of how the team is faring (that’s us, tucked in there behind the Atlanta Hawks on the lower left of the graphic).
But, if you’re here, it’s probably that, like me, you haven’t stopped watching your team. These current struggles almost feel more “real” than the insane levels of success the team has enjoyed for the past decade.
I’m still hoping the team brings up Ky Bowman and Smiley soon, because if there’s one thing I’ve enjoyed this season, it’s been watching guys like Bowman and Eric Paschall thrive.

One thing I will give the FO credit this year is that there was noise that the Dubs were targeting Thybulle and Windler and a couple of other players. All their supposed targets we're off the board before the Warriors were set to pick. I almost can't fault Myers for reaching a bit.
Poole with good hustle on the loose ball. Paschall’s jumper form looks like more and more like someone shaking gunk off boots. Going to work on that in the off-season...
Maybe not in the 'most despised' department. I saw WCS take worst heat earlier this year mostly undeservedly. Burks will have some nice moments even limited to an explosive quarter here or there but Everytime I see the Warriors be competitive and I see Burks coming in, he's like the Buzz Killington of this team. Fans have already heard my rant about Evans the moment he was drafted over on GSOM but I don't despise his play I just don't think he's a good NBA player.
Tonight specifically he's a team low -28. He consistently settles for some of the worst shots. The offense comes to a halt every time he comes on the floor. His defense is abysmal. He's a very low iq defensive player and I see the progress this team had made as a whole INCLUDING the recently departed WCS and Burks is just out here doing his own thing
D’Angelo has gotten better at the catch and shoot off on the move. He was already good at it in BRK from a standstill. But to run Klay plays, he’ll have to keep doing that,
Dray giving Ben Simmons ten foot of shooting space on his drives, nice contest at rim. Previously, D Lee and Dray executing decent D on the pick and roll, with a show and recover, D Lee hustling back to contest the 3...
Dubs with good shooting splits (.477/.500/.714), wiht a 7-of-14 clip from beyond the arc. But they're not getting stops. Sixers with .548/.333/.778 splits and 30-16 bench point edge.
Yeah, it's not a matter of effort. They are trying, it's just that most of them are either not cut out to be good defenders, have habits that are hard to eliminate, or still don't have enough reps out there. Also, defense is ultimately a team effort, so communication is key. They still aren't close to being perfect in that aspect either.
That’s part of it, I think. Another part is that O and D are synergistic; and the defensive focus starts to wane when the scoreboard is going the wrong way other team is repeatedly getting defensive rebounds and run-outs off turnovers as opposed to taking the ball out under their own net.
Haha. Love our Draymond, but I think he and the Warriors brass have missed on this one. Of course hitting on a pick that low is always a crapshoot, and the Ws have done better than expected with their low picks (by and large).
Two things I hope out of this game both short term and long term: short term I hope DLo goes for 50 tonight. Burks for 30. Long term I hope the Sixers flounder in the second round and they look to turn around and trade Embiid for DLo and our draft pick. I know people want Simmons but @). I don't think DLo and our pick gets it done and b). They have Horford under contract
33-second moment of silence here in Philadelphia — Kobe’s high school number at nearby Lower Merion. Video of his final introduction in Philadelphia then shown on big screen.
Long time Warriors fan, former Bay Area and Philadelphia resident, in Chicago watching the game on NBA League Pass. I would have thought the NBA would show the video and the big screen all the way through....but no League Pass shows one second and cuts to commercials. Back and forth from the floor to commercials until tip off which thankfully they showed.
⚡️⚡️I’m now calling marquises and Wiggins the slash brothers ⚡️⚡️⚡️Steph and Klay make it rain Wiggins and Marquises bring the thunder
Post-game thread now up. You all can tell us if you want these fresh, clean, post-game threads, or if the game thread is enough.

Yeah, if SoL can get something up relatively soon, I’ll format it in the main post, complete with Pony
GSW (10-38) 104
PHI (31-17) 115
==== FINAL ====
DLo 28-5-7, 10/22 fg, 6/12 3s
GRIII 20-5-3, 7/11 fg
Draymond 9-9-12
Chriss 15 pts, 6/10 fg
Burks 12 pts, 3/8 fg
Embiid 24 pts, 10 reb, 9/13 fg
Neto 19 pts, 3/5 3s
Simmons 17-4-5
6 Sixers in double-figures
Top players:
1: Russell
2: Robinson III
3: Chriss
HM: Green
Green should be #2. Portions of the game with good D was all him.
Hack A Ben?? By the way, I had zero doubt that GSW would get this back to single digits
YES, refs give Chriss the “you’re losing by 15” mercy no-call on the goaltending.
Booo, I thought D-Lo had his second 4-point chance of the quarter...
Just don't have enough offense. All that changes with Steph back (March 1st).
Steph will be re-evaluated Mar 1, probably will need days of practice before he’s back
I thought he was going to be revaluated Feb 1st
Oh yeah, you’re right, my brain was reading and writing Mar 1 as Feb 1. I better get my noggin checked out
As long as you keep creating E1P, I got no beef with your noggin 😀.
Talking of E1P - one of the downside of having very few wins is very few E1Ps. Rest up - we gonna need it all next season 😉.
BREAKING: Apricot in concussion protocol. To be re-evaluated tomorrow. Kerr says he should be okay.
So Apricot going on load management?
I feel fine, so both of you stop spinning around like that
Haha, Dray prejumped that block beautifully.
D'Lo is currently 38.4 percent on threes for the season on 9.6 attempts per game. Not too shabby.
This guy Thybulle is a real menace on D, and is quite competent on O.
One thing I will give the FO credit this year is that there was noise that the Dubs were targeting Thybulle and Windler and a couple of other players. All their supposed targets we're off the board before the Warriors were set to pick. I almost can't fault Myers for reaching a bit.
Look at that, Lee made a shot!
Poole with good hustle on the loose ball. Paschall’s jumper form looks like more and more like someone shaking gunk off boots. Going to work on that in the off-season...
I never have wanted anyone as far away from this team as Burks since Richard Jefferson's missed free throws in the playoffs against the Spurs.
Interesting viewpoint. I would say most Warriors fans don't share your opinion, though. Care to explain?
Maybe not in the 'most despised' department. I saw WCS take worst heat earlier this year mostly undeservedly. Burks will have some nice moments even limited to an explosive quarter here or there but Everytime I see the Warriors be competitive and I see Burks coming in, he's like the Buzz Killington of this team. Fans have already heard my rant about Evans the moment he was drafted over on GSOM but I don't despise his play I just don't think he's a good NBA player.
I think you’re going to get your wish... but what is setting you off tonight?
Tonight specifically he's a team low -28. He consistently settles for some of the worst shots. The offense comes to a halt every time he comes on the floor. His defense is abysmal. He's a very low iq defensive player and I see the progress this team had made as a whole INCLUDING the recently departed WCS and Burks is just out here doing his own thing
Since Dubs can’t score, they should stop scoring @ 81 not 82pts!
looks like the sixers decided to conserve energy until the 4th. not surprising
GSW playing some good hard D, forcing Ben S to become Tall Controlled Westbrook to keep PHI ahead. Playing hard, but GSW is... JUST TOO SMALL ERNIE
Some stats...
GSW 82
PHI 86
END OF Q3
DLo 22-3-7, 8/17 fg, 5/9 3s
Draymond 9-10-8
GRIII 13-4-3, 5/9 fg, 2/4 3s
Chriss 13 pts, 5 reb, 5/8 fg
Burks 11 pts, 3 reb, 3/6 fg
Embiid 20 & 8
Neto 19 pts (DNP Q3)
Simmons 11p, 4/11 fg
Harris 10p
FGs and FTs:
Warriors: 30/67, 12/28 threes, 10/12 FTs
Sixers: 33/64, 8/23 threes, 12/17 FTs
Warriors won another quarter by a point.
Lol! Burkes knows how to draw fouls.
Haha, what a cheap ass foul draw. But we take those I guess
D’Angelo has gotten better at the catch and shoot off on the move. He was already good at it in BRK from a standstill. But to run Klay plays, he’ll have to keep doing that,
Yeah, noticed that too. Looked like a natural shooting off of pindowns.
Dray giving Ben Simmons ten foot of shooting space on his drives, nice contest at rim. Previously, D Lee and Dray executing decent D on the pick and roll, with a show and recover, D Lee hustling back to contest the 3...
Dubs absolutely on track to make this a close game they blow in some weird way
Bench laying an egg in 4th quarter will do it
< tank chess . Gif >
League Pass -- I mean, TANK -- Alert!!! 😂
Dray playing with energy is such a difference maker. Contrary to his rumored decline, his help D is still elite as long as he is engaged.
Warriors at half vs. PHI:
ORtg: 108.5
DRtg: 118.6
NetRtg: -10.1
eFG%: .557
TS%: .573
Dubs with good shooting splits (.477/.500/.714), wiht a 7-of-14 clip from beyond the arc. But they're not getting stops. Sixers with .548/.333/.778 splits and 30-16 bench point edge.
The not-getting-stops part is getting soooo tired 🙄 Are they just not talented/athletic enough on defense?
Yeah, it's not a matter of effort. They are trying, it's just that most of them are either not cut out to be good defenders, have habits that are hard to eliminate, or still don't have enough reps out there. Also, defense is ultimately a team effort, so communication is key. They still aren't close to being perfect in that aspect either.
That’s part of it, I think. Another part is that O and D are synergistic; and the defensive focus starts to wane when the scoreboard is going the wrong way other team is repeatedly getting defensive rebounds and run-outs off turnovers as opposed to taking the ball out under their own net.
Halftime stats:
Warriors:
46.5% shooting (21/44 FGs)
7/14 three pointers
5/7 FTs
20 rebounds (4 off.)
16 assists
7 turnovers
76ers:
54.8% shooting (23/42 FGs)
6/18 three pointers
7/9 FTs
18 rebounds (1 off.)
13 assists
6 turnovers
DLo floater at 0.4! That's Draymond's 8th assist of the first half:
GSW 54
PHI 59
HALFTIME
DLo 14 pts, 4 ast, 5/11 fg, 3/6 3s
Chriss 11 pts, 4/5 fg
Draymond 5-8-8
Burks 6 pts, 3 reb
GRIII 6-2-3, 3/5 fg
Neto 19 pts, 7/8 fg, 3/4 3s
Embiid 13p, 5r, 5/7 fg
Every game, we seem to make one bench player look like a All-Star.
Not bad Dubs!! LGW!
Lee - Psst! Can you go back to hitting shots again.
Even layups are a challenge for him these days. It’s puzzling.
within 2 weeks lee has gone from solid young up and coming player to evans level. 2 wide open klayups
Lee needs to go to G-League *sarcasm*
lee's contract is non-guaranteed right? can we get him back on the 2-way?
Nope, he's on the first year of a 3 year, $4.5mil contract
I think next year is partially guaranteed, and then the year after is not
Would be nice if Damion Lee actually played like the supposed shooter he is
been saying that all year, even more so recently
Lmk if you want more of these "livetweets" from Twitter...
Raul Neto 3rd triple. Kerr calls a timeout:
GSW 39
PHI 44
6:43 Q2
Sixers: 7/11 fg this quarter. Same symptoms for the Dubs, except at least they're scoring at a better clip: 15/30 fg, 5/10 on 3s.
Evans/Poole in and we loose the lead. Poole has now gone too conservative in taking jumpers.
Some Q1 stats:
GSW 27
PHI 26
END OF Q1
Chriss 8 pts, 3/3 fg
GRIII 6 pts, 3 ast, 3/4 fg
DLo 6 pts, 2/4 fg
Draymond 3-6-3
Embiid 9 pts, 3 reb, 4/6 fg
Harris 7 pts, 3/4 fg
FGs and FTs:
Warriors: 11/22, 3/7 threes, 2/2 FTs
Sixers: 10/20, 1/7 threes, 5/5 FTs
Trade Burks and Evans to someone for a 13th round pick.
Evans not hustling after that loose ball is exactly why he sucks and will never make it in the NBA.
16 game player according to Draymond. Just wait till the playoffs, he'll ratchet up the intensity
Haha. Love our Draymond, but I think he and the Warriors brass have missed on this one. Of course hitting on a pick that low is always a crapshoot, and the Ws have done better than expected with their low picks (by and large).
The Warriors looking good .... I wonder if it's going to last the entire game? 😏
Maybe I should have said I wonder if it'll last the rest of the quarter.
sixers not sharp to start. not surprising
Oh? Lakers-Clippers game tonight has been postponed.
lee's still in one of the worst slumps i've ever seen
Fun fact: the first ever NBA championship was won in Philly ... by the Warriors.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/194704220PHW.html
An actual unironic fun fact. Will wonders never cease?
In Charlotte, Hornets took a 24-second violation, while the Knicks took an 8-second violation.
Two things I hope out of this game both short term and long term: short term I hope DLo goes for 50 tonight. Burks for 30. Long term I hope the Sixers flounder in the second round and they look to turn around and trade Embiid for DLo and our draft pick. I know people want Simmons but @). Sixers take an 8-second violation. Warriors take a 24-second violation.
Pretty neat - the violations!!

gonna be an emotional one
LGW!!! Looking forward to a beat-down. Please not another game where we loose in last 3 minutes.
