One question for the folks on here: in the first half the second unit looked fine with Wannamaker running the point, but the second time they came out it looked like they had trouble initiating any kind of offense. Did Denver make an adjustment, was it just circumstance, or was I seeing things?
I'm allowed one preseason overreaction. Here it is: Man the Dubs should have traded back a few spots, picked up an asset, and selected Deni Avdija or Okoro.
On the flip side (especially if the Dubs end up inside the botton 20) that is three top tier draft picks you'll be adding in Wiseman, Evan Mobley (please dear God 🙏) and Jalen Johnson. That's a heck of a draft haul if the cards just fall into place.
Too early. I'm actually getting MORE excited about what they might have in Wiseman. Remember they got to see him in action up close in Curry's basketball camp a year ago and must have really liked what they saw to pass on some of the other talent.
I mention Wiseman for next year because I honestly believe he's Raw-er than Raw and will need this year as an extended training camp/summer league seeason. If he offers even what some posters are suggesting as being a regular rotation contributor then I will be pleasant surprised.
Okongwu was my pick this draft and actually coincidentally I am higher on Mobley (USC) next draft than even Cunningham. So much so that if the Warriors miraculously end up 6th or 7th and Mobley is there, I'd take him. I think Mobley going 2nd or 3rd before everything is done. He is a shade below Wiseman in raw physical talent BUT is years ahead in passing, shooting, instincts, and feel for the game. Wiseman IMO is a traditional Center. Mobley is what you desire in a modern big man. But I may be wrong on all counts, and hopefully I am in regards to Wiseman's development timeframe.
Wiseman and Mobley played in high school and I watched the highlights after Wiseman got drafted and Mobley certainly seemed to be the smarter basketball player of the two to me. Wiseman did have one pretty nasty dunk in there though.
Me too! I am a Dubs fan first and foremost and I hope Wiseman develops. I also hope they handle Wiseman with kids gloves this year I really do. I don't think he is your prototypical rookie. I really believe that he is what Kent Lacob thought Smailigic was supposed to be lol. Raw project but a sky high ceiling and a high floor to fall back on.
Nah, he's surrounded by Curry/Draymond (2 All Stars) and Wiggins/Oubre + he'll get to learn from Ron Adams/Draymond/Looney. He'll do fine, toss him to the wolves.
You can start him off the bench, but by midseason, he should be getting starter minutes so that he can play through the mistakes and get better. Playing time is one of the main ways young players improve and get better.
Thanks for the nice dive into the game! So much better to watch than last year’s beginning. Plenty of room to grow, but everyone seems committed to both ends of the floor and they looked pretty darn good at times.
Eric: so glad that we are finally back to basketball. Let me pay you the biggest compliment: back when I was a big baseball fan, hearing Jon Miller and Kruk and Kipe on the radio meant that life was worth living again because Spring Training had started and we had baseball. EOP kinda feels like that for me now, so the pressure is on kid - make it a great season!
Really liked what we saw last night. Even though we obviously lost a ton of top end talent, the rest of the fixes that Myers brought in are decidedly improved on some of the team's previous benches.
Idk who ends up starting, but that bench rotation with Paschall, Baze and Wanamaker is nice!!
Also Curry and everyone else just clearly need more reps. EP missed a wide open Steph at one point, and Steph threw one outta bounds when somebody cut instead of dipping back out for a 3. Once they all get familiar with each other, this should all clean up
I really enjoyed the swarming defense that we had out there. Once Draymond gets out there, that starting 5 of Looney/Dray/Wiggins/Oubre/Curry should actually be quite nice defensively.
Looney looked about as good as he can look. GSW has recently come out of the blocks firing vs Den. They're supposed to be overmatched. Good to see they're still doing it. Glad we are not playing the Lakers yet.

Am I the only one who is happy that the LETSGOWARRIORS game thread nearly tripled the GoldenStateOfMind game thread? I guess it shows that hard work and quality writing sometimes wins out.
Dunno if it needs to be a competition. I'm loving the high level writing and discussion here, hope we can maintain that and not let the threads devolve into the blathering threads that you often see on GSOM. Want them to succeed at their level, and LGW succeed at this.
Yeah, I understand the exodus, but blame Vox, not anyone associated with GSOM then or now. Plus, I like Brady and his writing, so won’t abandon him completely.
Speaking of food, I’d rather have my namesake on the menu at Mickey D’s again rather than the mcRib, especially if that mcRib is the wack version they had brought out before that was not the original. (I think I’m old when I’m talking bout old menu Mickey D’s. One more for the trifecta: the McDLT. I don’t really have an opinion on that one though). Sorry, I saw food being mentioned, and it’s the best contribution I could make. Looking to seeing this version of the Dubs grow together this season into a well oiled machine that i think can do real damage! Lets go Warriors, and Let’s go LetsGoWarriors!
My wife has a colleague from Turkey. He and his wife tried the McRib because it seemed very American and ended up with indigestion. We promised to get them actual good American food sometime...
(They liked the fries, because of course McDonald's fries are great).
Indigestion sounds about right, though unfortunate. I’m sure you’ll give them a better experience when they get some authentic American. Maybe even authentic ribs or a sandwich. That thing is really weird when I think about it, if it’s not really rib meat, which the internet is telling me.

Weren’t the going further down the depth chart in the 2nd half?
It looked like the rotation went starters, backups twice through, and then bench mob after that.
So the starters didn’t play as much in the 2nd half. That might answer your question.

yea, i'll wait on Advija. going 6/6 from the field is impressive...but he's still very raw.
Okoro is who i liked the most in this draft...he and Vassell. so yea that one might end up hurting if JW is just another big body.

This is as good a place as any to say I can’t wait to see what we have in Wiseman!!

He’ll also be learning from Zaza and Collins...and on the broadcast, Fitz and Myers were talking about Looney being a great person to mentor him.

gulp, make life worth living... that's a lot of pressure! I will try to make basketball more interesting, how about that? :D
Smiley needs to trust in his teammates to rotate to his man and contest those shots.

Steph was short all night. Not off just short. That's really encouragint when you talk about early preseason Steph misses lol
Yep, a lot of front rim clangers. As much as you train, can't replicate game speed, even preseason game speed.

Not the only one. The difficulties here seem to be mostly formatting. Most of the GSOM crew of old has found LGW and participates :)
Haha, I'm just glad for all of you that participate here.
I'm just here for the free food.
