On Site Comments and Politics
Reminder that I do not want DNHQ to become a political discussion. Politics and what is happening in MIN is much more important than basketball. These events should be discussed widely and people should call their Senators and Congresspeople, and organize locally, but there are much better places than here. This is a little corner of the internet to get away from that.
On to the next one…

Short but substantial update from Slater:
* GSW basically say they aren’t pursuing Andrew Wiggins or Michael Porter Jr
* GSW basically have given up getting Trey Murphy III
* Note that yes GSW can trade the 4 1sts but they can only trade 1 swap (not 3) because MIL have no picks to swap in the other years.

By the way, I still can’t get over how times have changed. Back in the day, GSW couldn’t land ANY free agents… they finally had to overpay to reach and barely get David Lee (good guy but sub-All-Star) and also dump good players only to be rejected by DeAndre Jordan…
Since then, to get Andre and KD and now to be completely legit contender for Giannis… shows you the power of Steph and good ownership.
Apricot’s Rule of Trade Masochism is that for a homer (like me and probably you) to properly judge trade value, you have to come up with a trade that is honestly fair but painful and then throw in another 1st round pick.
The Giannis trade scenario is the first one where every legal trade I can think of seems worth it. (I know the majority of Dub Nation doesn’t feel this way.)
The logical conclusion, if you believe in the ironclad laws of Masochism and psychohistory, is that since a painful trade is not possible, that no trade is possible. That is, MIL would rather not trade than do a GSW trade because there just isn’t enough.
The only things that I can see might tip things to GSW are:
- MIL might feel rushed to trade before Giannis has to decide on an extension
- Giannis might veto better options in favor of playing with Steph
I know there’s some hopeful thinking about comparative advantage and how Jimmy’s contract is attractive because his absence will make the tank easier, and how GSW will eat all bad contracts etc. But MIL should *want* a young promising star plus all the picks and contract eating. And they probably can get that over the summer, and GSW can’t do that.
