Milwaukee looks like they phoned it in compared to Sunday

How is it possible that giannis is 1-10?

Expand full comment

No, he's taller than that. About 6-10.

Expand full comment

I think it's because the Celtics defense is crowding the paint and forcing him to take jumpers.

Expand full comment

But in theory his teammates would be open from 3 then. I think he's just been lethargic and making bad decisions.

Expand full comment

Because he missed nine of his shots.

Despite that, the Bucks are still in this game. But they have a high hurdle to climb since it’s basically a must-win for Boston.

This is the type of start I expect from the Grizzlies as well at some point in the first half. Doesn't mean the Warriors can't win but I expect the A Game from the Grizzlies tonight.

The homer in me says "I'm not expecting anything".

Ja looked pretty shaken at the end of the last game as the reality of losing home court to a team you've been clowning for a year sunk in.

No Bane, no pain.

Good thing the Warriors have gotten very used to playing from behind in the first quarter! This has been Kerr's plan all along by all the terrible stops!

Light years!

Yep, I’m expecting the same. But hopefully the Dub’s veteran savvy we keep hearing about helps us weather the storm and gets us in position to steal a second game on the road.

Expand full comment

One thing I don't want to see tonight is us jumping out to a big lead way too early like in the first half. I'll take a 27-2 run at the beginning of the 4th though.

Expand full comment

Wow, I really don't pay attention to other teams outside of the Warriors. Didn't even know Brad Stevens was no longer Boston's coach LOL

Expand full comment

Dude, where you been? Ime Udoka's story is absolutely compelling.

Yea I guess he promoted himself to GM or something lol

Or he turned, ya know, 21 .

21?! I thought he was a 14 year old prodigy

I've been fully confident this entire year esp after how we started. The rest of the season had so many injuries that it wasn't even worth taking into account.

For The Athletic subscribers, MT2 has nice piece on Wiggins and his buying in to the unglamorous challenge of playing the 4 and banging with bigger players: https://theathletic.com/3291041/2022/05/03/warriors-andrew-wiggins/

Expand full comment

wiggs has been doing really well fighting for extra possessions on the offensive end but he's still too small on defense. aaron gordon and now jaren jackson are killing him down there

Expand full comment

Yea, he's nearly 20 lbs lighter than Klay

Expand full comment

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm worried about the Grizzlies youthfully exuberant athleticism injuring someone in the name of "being physical and giving 110%" and "putting everything on the line to have a chance to win again tomorrow".

Expand full comment

I don't think this team has guys who have that reputation, for what it's worth.

Expand full comment

Agree, they don't have the reputation, nor should they. But they're also young and new to this "fighting for your life in the playoffs" thing, and may throw themselves around a bit recklessly as they come up against elimination.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I don't think any of them are dirty. Clarke seems like the clumsy type to me though. Like Apricot said, he can't stop falling! Just don't fall on one of our guy's legs

Expand full comment

Maybe not. But what could be worrisome is that their playing physical 110% could result in them being reckless and ,eventually, hurting our guys.

Expand full comment

I dont see why this would be more of an issue now than in any other matchup in the playoffs… or are we just looking for things to worry about ? :)

Expand full comment

99.9% of NBA injuries are not caused by an intentionally dirty play.

The Grizzlies are big & athletic, and they trust their athleticism to overcome disadvantages. In Game 1, Ja tried to jump over two Warriors and got himself falling straight on his back from 6 feet in the air. I can easily see Brooks diving on the floor through Klay's leg to secure a loose ball, or JJJ/Clarke rotating late to block Steph's layup and landing straight on top of him. Not dirty plays, but plays that end up being dangerous because people are trying hard.

"6:30(ish)pm"

That 'ish' is the stuff of nightmares for international fans. I'm so glad this series doesn't have starting times as late as the previous one, ending at 2.30am on a working day is something I can't keep up with at this age...

it's so crazy. This isn't a music venue trying to get people in the door buying drinks. Just tell as the real time please!!

Expand full comment

Does that happen over there as well? When I was young, we knew that underground gigs (do you call them 'underground'? I mean, small venues, punk-related kind of music) would start two hours later than announced. It wasn't annoying because it was fixed, we all knew it and mostly because I was young 😂

yeah, there's a saying "no such thing as punk time, show up on time"... or they keep trying to make it a saying.

General rule is opener goes on an hour after doors, and the standard is headliner from around 10:30-midnight. But venues are still secretive about advertising set times for each band

It just sucks when they do weird time slot changes and don't tell you. The worst thing is missing your opener or whatever though

Expand full comment

It’s based on the previous game and if it goes into overtime. As well as reserving time for the talking heads and ads.

Yes, and introducing the teams and the Anthem. I know. But that doesn't change my 6am alarm, sadly. 😁

From Game 1:

> 🔺 Actual Score: Warriors 117-116 Grizzlies

> 🔺 ShotQuality Score: Warriors 110-104 Grizzlies

> Based on the quality of shots taken:

> 🔺 Warriors win 74% of the time

> 🔺 Grizzlies win 26% of the time

https://twitter.com/Shot_Quality/status/1520919403587506176

Also perhaps notable if their metric is worth anything at all, they had the Mavericks at 65% to win Game 1 and the Sixers at 65% to win Game 1.

Expand full comment

Suns hit a ton of tough mid ranges while the mavs were generating a lot of open 3s

Expand full comment

People are saying Grizzlies will be more aggressive in game 2 but IMO I thought they were TOO aggressive in game 1 especially on the defensive end. They were jumping the gun on almost every play and we made them pay for it

Expand full comment

Could be but I think there's good reason to expect their "best shot" tonight and that will include a lot more physicality. This team should not be getting outrebounded by the Warriors if they want to win.

Look at how Memphis responded last series after going down 1-0 at home and everyone talking about how there was a ton of pressure on them, I think they ended up winning by 30. Or in the Warrior series, remember how much more force Aaron Gordon responded with after largely seeming MIA in the first two games?

Road teams going up 2-0 in a series is rare, I'm thinking the Warriors are going to have to "steal" another one unless perhaps Bane doesn't play.

Expand full comment

Yup. I'm anticipating the grizzlies tying up the series tonight but I'm also watching to see the warriors go up 2-0 lol

Expand full comment

For sure. Before the series started I would have said 2-0 was unlikely but now that the Warriors actually somehow pulled out Game 1 (still not quite sure how lol), it's very possible that they take a commanding 2-0 lead. Warriors are 2 point favorites from what I'm seeing.

And if Bane is actually out tonight, I'd expect a Warrior win regardless.

Expand full comment

Damn, if Bane is out, the warriors should be looking to steal this one too🤞

Expand full comment

Yeah, that's the thing with aggressive teams. The answer is always to be more aggressive! Eventually it just leads to hurting people.

Expand full comment

Exactly, I expect the grizz to come out over aggressive since they lost game 1

OT: I just uploaded another video featuring whales, but this one is from our four days on Vancouver Island. It was our first time seeing Orcas in the wild and they came up real close to our boat. We were thrilled. (Also saw other whales, a sea otter, bald eagle, lots of seals and sea lions and various other birds. Check it out if you’re so inclined. (As always a “thumbs up” if you have a YouTube/Google account would be appreciated.) https://youtu.be/kGku-PUiedM

Glad you enjoyed! Should be the heat of whale season for you! We highly recommend the Salish Sea whale watching for the orcas 👍🏼 If you’re ever in Maui between mid- December and mid-April, let me know and we can take you out on kayaks or standup paddle boards to hopefully meet some humpbacks up close.

May very well hit you up on that request at some point. We sold our place in Maui (because the beach was getting eaten by the ocean and some of the front units were going to fall in soon) but have been talking a lot about heading back out there because we all miss it so much
