Oubre, Baze, Wiggins, Draymond, Paschall, Chriss, Loon, Steph, (Wiseman?), Wanamaker.

This team has some ball hawking dawg in it.

Not sure about the shooting, but they can go get it.

I enjoyed watching that game. It was like an early Christmas present because they added it to the tv schedule so late. Watching the guys have no idea how to use Curry’s off ball movement was a bit rough, but watching the movement on D was awesome! This might be crazy but it seems to me that Draymond needs to lock in and be a positive part of the team to speed up the Offensive reads even more than the D.

Wiggins and Chriss were just plain bad. Hopefully that’s just a one off.

Seeing Paschall with the starters was a huge eye opener for me with the way he moved on D. He was guilty of not getting Steph the ball, but overall he could be part of the closing 5 if he’s truly that good on D consistently.

Bazemore was awesome and one might wonder if he might be part of a new death lineup of Curry, Oubre, Bazemore, Wiggins, Green. That’s alot of activity on D and cutting on O. Dreams.

Mulder replaces Klay’s no dribble 30 point possibilities. They have to keep him don’t they????

And Poole made all his shots and still seemed like a let down after all the hype of how hard he’s worked to improve.

So much possibility on this roster and the commitment to D was completely lacking from the jump last year.

Overall impression: this year is going to be freaking FUN (as long as they pass Curry the dang ball.)

There are so many reasons on to be excited about this team, including so many guys that are easy to like.

I was really excited about Oubre before the game, now I’m irrationally excited about him. He really makes his presence felt on both ends and you’re very aware when he’s on the court. He’s a goddamn cheetah out there.

I really liked Wanamaker in the bubble. He’s a perfect lunchpale workhorse and showed it vs. Denver.

So much length and athleticism on this team and it looks like there will be a ton of effort to go with it.

I saw him as s a vet presence, but had forgotten how much better Bazemore is since we last saw him a Dubs jersey. “He’s all groweds up!”

EP’s defense and JP’s offense both looked better than I expected.

Seeing Looney look like the guy we know warmed my heart. How can we not be happy for him?

Steph....enough said.

I\can’t wait for Dray and The Big Kid to join the fun.

Great summary Duby. Excited about this team and about Mulder. We've got to get that guy, not just a roster spot, but some PT to see how far his talent can go. Also love what we saw out of Baze, Wanamakek and Oubre. Paschall and Wiggins played ok, but their shooting was as we remembered it, and that's not a good thing. Paschall's tunnel vision in that context is all the more inexcusable.

Speaking of Wiggins, as it is, much rides on the Wiggins experiment. Whatever happens to our season, the future of the dynasty may come down to how good he is. If he can improve a lot, we'll go far this year and into the future (and might be even be able to trade him for another max salary guy without too much draft capital thrown in). If he's the waste of space everyone says he is, his contract will be immovable and it will really be a challenge for Lacob to believe in our hopes as a contender even when Klay returns (though seeing Durant and Wall look ok so far has to help in that regard). If Lacob changes his mind and decides he's not ready to spend hundreds of millions in lux taxes, we're toast.

I am concerned about the 5. Jokic destroyed us, and that wouldn't be sustainable in a real game. If Wiseman is too green to see the floor, we'd be forced to go small to compete, which would put a lot of wear and tear on Dray's tires. Might be forced to cut bait on Smiley and get a decent vet with the remaining TMLE or DPE. Smiley was everything the naysayers said about him, i.e. there's more wrong there than youth and inexperience. I thought he'd look like he developed some from last year, but he looks the same to me.

I'm skeptical about Wiseman's readiness out of the gate but if he can be a good rim protector right away, I don't see why a healthy Warrior team can't be top 5 defensively. Looney, Wanamaker, and Bazemore are great defensive reinforcements to have off the bench. Paschall too if the first preseason game is a sign of things to come.

Not sold on the offense though. I think adding Mulder to the roster makes a lot of sense, and perhaps they can get JTA for the last two-way spot. I'd love to see how effective a Curry/Mulder/Lee/Draymond/Looney lineup could be, that seems to me like their best bet for "running the old stuff".

Great recap! I got a couple of points to add:

Jordan Poole looked really steady on offense and appears to have jumped Damion Lee in the rotation. Best of all, he made all his shots! Defensively, he was a step slow and looked attackable. If he plays on the second unit alongside Wanamaker, they should be passable on both ends of the court.

Steph played at what looked like 70% (I hope). He wasn't attacking on offense in the way that we would expect. He missed a layup which it looks like he just needed to jump a little harder and he would have made it.

The defense looks miles ahead of where we were at the beginning of last year. Oubre's on ball defense got me feeling things I haven't felt in a while. The offense looks ROUGH but that's to be expected. Plays weren't too crisp, lots of open passes missed, lots of players having to create out of broken plays. On the positive side though, more players showed the ability to create than I expected. Bazemore and Poole stood out in that regard.

MIKE MULDER CAME OUT TO SECURE HIS SPOT ON THE TEAM. He rolled out of bed on fire. Great attribute for a bench role player.

I only watched the highlights, not the game, but I'm not that worried that Jokic had a good game. It's preseason, Jokic was playing live games not that long ago and the Warriors weren't, Wiseman and Green weren't on the floor as you point out, a lot of new Warriors were as well as a rusty Kevon Looney, and for the most part, the Warriors managed to stay in his face. The guy is just too good to shut down completely. It's pretty clear that to beat the Nuggets, you can let Jokic get his points as long as you make life difficult for everybody else and this is the type of Warriors team that should be able to do that. I still think the Warriors are a 6th seed at best, but you never know.

Good summary, and some choice videos to illustrate. Definitely this team is going to have an uphill battle winning any game when Steph is cold or (fingers crossed) not available for whatever reason. Hopefully a strong defense, transition game, and some progress from the young guys will make up for that.

Great recap - a fun read since I missed the game. As for the season’s goals - I’m not Ring or Zero. Yes a ring would be (very!) nice but I’d be delighted with a competitive team that wins more than loses, can beat anyone on a good night, and makes a decent playoff run. Even though I got some pleasure out of last season, I didn’t have the enthusiasm to watch every minute.

Best recap I’ve read! I’m happy to find out I was wrong about Oubre which will be an entry in your next “When Were You Wrong?”
