I know the Knicks wrecked us badly the last time these two teams played, but I don't expect us to break the "non-streak" with a loss tonight. Especially after those last two games, with two days of rest, and one or both centers likely coming back, I expect this squad to get out there and punch a hole in the Knicks' hot streak.
New York's defense is legit and they're certainly a better team than anyone gave them credit for to start the season, but that'll just make this victory sweeter. Steph Curry is overdue for a big game, Oubre has been on a hot streak, the defense is really starting to click, and we're finally not going to be running a tiny squad that can't grab defensive rebounds... right?
My biggest question is how many minutes does JTA get if both centers are back? Juanito's been huge for the team in the last few games, but a lot of that has been in his ability to defend bigs respectably. So far this season Kerr has generally had either Looney or Wiseman on the floor at any given time, so that their combined minutes are almost exactly the full 48 for any game in which both are available. That's a lot of playing time that probably comes out of Paschall's and JTA's budget when both are all the way back. If the team is going to try to drag out his 2-way contract as long as they can maybe he gets a couple more DNP's for that reason—but with how well he's been playing, I have to figure they're already committed to giving him a playoff-compatible deal so maybe it doesn't matter.
If both Looney and Wiseman are back, the balance between the two of them will also be an interesting question to watch also.
If JTA is suited up for the game but gets a DNP, does that count against his 50-game availability? My understanding was that if the player is suited up, it counts whether or not the player gets any playing time.
I think so yes. They have to designate beforehand, but if he's listed as active, it counts as a game.
On a related note, both Mulder and Damion Lee have their guarantee dates coming up (I think tomorrow) so if the Dubs are looking to make a move on JTA, this is one of the more rational windows for action
I don't know if anyone watches anime here, but there's a great volleyball series called Haikyuu!! and in the latest season there was a really interesting arc that's been on my mind with regards to Wiseman's development.
The main character goes to a special training camp but is forced to watch the whole thing rather than participate. In the process, he ends up noticing some things about how the other guys there play that he wouldn't have seen otherwise, which ends up helping him develop his mindset and defensive technique in a way that he wouldn't have if he'd been actually participating in the practice games and drills.
I've got high hopes that Wiseman's recent "time off" may work out the same way!
Lol saw somewhere that the Mavs are reaching out to the Warriors and dangling the Unicorn. No thanks. They'll probably want either Wiseman or the Minnesota pick and that's a no no.
Lol. The only reasonable deal that I can see for Porzingis with us is a virtual straight swap with Wiggins (maybe we throw in a lottery protected future first) which they obviously won't do. We sure as hell aren't giving up Wiseman/Minn pick for Porzingis.
Big 3rd quarter, sit the 4th quarter. Puh-leease.
The next 2 games we're just hoping they come out of there with a win and in one piece. Going to be a dog fight.

Is there defense legit? IIRC, they've been the luckiest team in the league with regards to open shooters missing 3s.

Mulder picked a bad day to have a poor game in Charlotte given Steph's absence and the upcoming guarantee date.
I feel like there's a possibility that Wiseman has learned quite a lot during his off time. We'll see!

Mama look at that D. Yikes. Some of those are pace-related, but some are definitely not.

Are they after Wiggins? They spent the whole off season looking for a defensive wing
I'd consider it, if they threw in that "Luka" guy to sweeten the pot.
Yeah, correct on all counts. Not even worth the time lol. I doubt that "discussion" got very far at all
That comment makes me especially happy, considering how much I once coveted Porzingis.
nice! I'll short form it and make it the game thread!!
lol Damion Jones, Quinn Cook and DeMarcus all waived within the last week or so. The Warriors really were scraping by
I'd take Quinn over Wanamaker
At this point, I'd prefer to have S Dot come out of retirement to take Whataburger's spot.
... With a special shout-out for 25th birthday boy D’Angelo Russell! :-)
Yah interesting coiniciDence thathatrade included players w/same birthdays...
