Not condoning it, but if we really wanted to go all in on the rebuild, Steph for Maxey would be kind of interesting for all parties involved. Klay could bolt to Philly for the MLE…
Look what they’ve done to us: Yesterday we were charting paths to a fifth title; today I’m burning up the trade machine for Caris LeVert and you’re sending Steph to Daryl Morey’s 76ers. Is this what rock bottom looks like?
Trying to be at least semi-realistic, any chance Cleveland would bite on Wiggins for LeVert and Niang?
I know it's sorta gross, but at least Caris (6.4 AST/36min last year) would give us another, taller player capable of dribbling the ball. We ran Steph into the ground for lack of secondary creation last year, and that was with Chris Paul on the roster...
Yeah, if this closes the book on the OKC trade, can we officially say it was a disaster for them? I understand it was maybe a prerequisite for getting Kawhi, but SGA and five picks is... rough.
Just like Houston did. Maybe after the inevitable tear down and rebuild we can not dislike the team as strongly as also with Houston (for many if not all of us).
I never had anything against Houston before the Morey-Beard era. I was a Hakeem fan and further back a Calvin Murphy fan. I am fine with them now as long as they have the good sense to lose when they play us.
The Clippers are a different story. I would be pleased to see them fall on their face and stay there.
Woj and Shams: BREAKING: Free agent F Paul George has agreed on a four-year, $212 million maximum contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN. George committed in a meeting with Sixers officials and returns East to join Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in pursuit of an NBA title.
Yeah. I think getting under the 2nd apron is a really big deal for the Clippers
And basically, they swapped George at $50 mil for Harden at $30 mil as Kawhi's second fiddle. Overall, that's probably OK for them. I haven't watched them much, but I'm guessing it's hard to get all three guys enough touches when they are all healthy.
And if George can stay healthy. They reportedly re-signed Oubre as well. I believe they have a lot of FAs yet to sign so their bench is an open question.
Two gigantic IFs. I wouldn't bet on both Embiid and PG13 being healthy for the playoffs. And if only one is, its another $212M for pretty much nothing.
When you have a Batman like Embiid, I just do not understand the logic of adding an injury-prone Robin.
yeah that too. East certainly won't be the cakewalk of the last few years. Along with Boston, the Knicks should be really good, plus if Milwaukee manage to get any sort of wing defense they could get back into the mix.
If the East next year is going to be as weak, relative to the West, as it was this playoffs, it seems like as good a time as any for Philly to go all-in.
This does not impact a Paul George contract. The Sixers are seemingly signing Oubre to the room MLE, which means it does not eat into their cap space. They simply have to use the cap space first and then sign Oubre afterwards. Still very capable of signing George to his max deal.
Free agent G Kelly Oubre Jr., has agreed on a two-year, $16.3 million deal to stay with the Philadelphia 76ers. Deal includes a player option on the 2025-2026 season for Sixers’ starting two-guard.
The expectation from those around the NBA is that Paul George is expected to walk away from his meeting with the 76ers tonight in California with a 4-year, $212M contract offer
From what I've seen, Denver really doesn't earn enough in ticket revenues to continue to fund a team as good as the one that won the championship in '22-23.
Admittedly ticket prices aren't everything and Golden State's are especially inflated (still!) but I think across the board even during their championship season it was about 5x as expensive to see the Warriors in their home arena compared with Denver in theirs. That's not including price of food and drinks in the arena, which are probably also higher in San Francisco... still can't get over a pint of Sierra Nevada and a bottle of Starry adding up to $37+tax...
They also don't have a local TV contract, so there's something to that. But, the owner is Stan Kroenke, who also owns the Rams and built Sofi stadium with his own money. They could spend if they wanted to.
Which just makes you realize how special Lacob really is. I don't fault him for wanting to reduce the tax burden now.
Free Agency is far from over. So far, the Warriors will be headed for a financial reboot, not the ALL IN option some thought should happen. This could be for the best and after all, we still have Steph & Dray. The Warriors will probably not retain Klay by the looks of things. There is no clear path for trading Wiggs so they will probably plan for him playing along with most of the other team members. I still feel they can put a competitive team on the floor and also emphasize development of the younger guys. I think it's clear that older players are not as coveted as they once were. Hopefully, MDJ sees the new NBA clearly and doesn't let sentiment cloud his decision making like it clouds the fans. $11Million for Chris Paul is the new reality, not the vet min.
MDJ does not seem like the sentimental type. He seems like a cool-headed businessman who will do what he needs to do to the extent Lacob will back him. If he were sentimental, he'd have done anything to sign Klay, at any price (which happily he did not do).
Any sentimentality was erased when he and Troy Murphy were traded to Indiana. Not sure if "all business" is a good practice but we shall see. At least Meyers inspired loyalty and pretended to feel bad when a player had to be traded.
I don't think Kerr likes Ingram's play. Plus, Wiggins is not exactly being chased by any teams. Warriors seem in an unleveraged position to do much trading. No one is hounding us for any of our players.
The way Kerr played him in the Euro Cup last season. Ingram complained a lot about it. Kerr has said he is committed to Wiggins and thinks he can help. I don't see many teams chasing Wiggins. I certainly wouldn't touch him the way he has handled things in the last two seasons. My opinion means nothing, though. I also don't like Ingram.
Until it’s over, it’s always possible cooler heads can prevail… as all the cap space gets eaten up, and the S&T opportunities turn into $17-18M offers, there’s a chance to make up and bring him back…
OK, so Klay is sounding out the free agent market….
Good for him, he has earned that right with his great play over many seasons with the Warriors.
As I understand things…and I think there is more I do NOT understand than what I do…
Here come a lot of “ifs”…
If Klay really has said a few cordial goodbyes to GSW people… he has his decision to make…
If he wants more/most money he has several teams (Sixers, Pistons, Magic, Spurs, Thunder, Jazz) under caps or taxes so they can sign Klay outright and can offer him a large contract.
If he wants to go to a championship contender his options are limited…
If he wants to go to an LA team he can choose one of those teams over the $$…
If the teams most interested in him are Dallas, Denver, Clippers, Lakers- they can only offer a limited NTPMLE or must negotiate a sign and trade…
If a sign and trade would be a good thing for Klay, the Warriors, and his preferred new team, then I think it will take some complicated negotiations to make salaries match and keep all parties happy.
So….
If he really does want to go to an LA team or Dallas and get a better contract… does that mean that the Warriors have some leverage in who they will ask for in return with a sign and trade?
Could they say we will not take certain players, or refuse to trade with a certain rival team? Would they want to play hardball in dealing with their long time successful employee?
A lot of wheeling and dealing for Warriors management and ownership and other GMs to try to assess what are the best options with free agency in a very completive NBA.
A lot to think about for Klay, who says he just wants to play ball, and swim in the ocean.
If Klay actually does decide to resign with the Warriors can he earn more than the NTPMLE since GSW has his “Bird rights” ?
Since so much of what I have been reading is just rumors… and keeping in mind what Apricot wrote to start this article ….
I don't think FO is gonna play hardball in regard to what they get back in S&T. Keeping that salary spot is important. They will help Klay get his deal, with in reason.
I don't think it is going to be possible to keep a $43M salary spot. No team is going to offer Klay $43M (unless the ownership is so bonkers its time to take the keys away).
I don't know how the FO is thinking, but if shedding the $43M gets them out of the tax, if it were me I'd get out of the tax. JK and Moody are up for extensions next year, and ducking the tax can reset the repeater. This is a golden opportunity to re-set the finances and gear up for the next title runs and the expenses those will entail.
The FO has a financial incentive to get lose that salary slot, which could get them below the first tax apron or even out of the tax. But if they can get some young talent and picks, or maybe a trade exception, it can be an advantageous deal. If they're offered dreck, to hell with it, let Klay fend for himself. He is choosing to leave, and they don't owe him help getting his deal if it doesn't help the team as well.
The Dallas Mavericks fully guaranteed the $2 million salary of guard Jaden Hardy for the 2024-25 season, league sources told @hoopshype. Hardy appeared in 73 regular season games for Dallas last season and averaged 7.3 points.
In 22 I promised God that if we won the title, I wouldn't ask for anything else and would live with the consequences.
I've been paying the piper ever since.
No regrets.
Not condoning it, but if we really wanted to go all in on the rebuild, Steph for Maxey would be kind of interesting for all parties involved. Klay could bolt to Philly for the MLE…
Sixers: Steph, Klay, Oubre, PG, Embiid
Warriors: Maxey (23), Podz (21), Moody (22), Kuminga (21), TJD (24), Santos (22).
Maybe let Dray get with LeBron (for Knecht, Hachimura, and future assets?), send Wiggs somewhere for nothing, and let’s goooooo…
😃 😞
Warriors should trade Steph for every pick they can.
It Will be Better for kuminga and the kids.
Just enter rebuild mode
The atrocity… 😂
Look what they’ve done to us: Yesterday we were charting paths to a fifth title; today I’m burning up the trade machine for Caris LeVert and you’re sending Steph to Daryl Morey’s 76ers. Is this what rock bottom looks like?
lol, pretty much. Always darkest just before the dawn…
Generally, I’m good with Steph, Dray, and the kids.
LOL ... and then some.
Niang would be a nice pickup.
I don't see any traction on Wiseman signing with another team.
Pretty sure he's a low-priority signing for anyone interested.
Clippers have given up a lot for first round playoff exits.
Yeah, if this closes the book on the OKC trade, can we officially say it was a disaster for them? I understand it was maybe a prerequisite for getting Kawhi, but SGA and five picks is... rough.
Unmitigated disaster. They don't own any of their picks till 2030.
https://fanspo.com/nba/teams/Clippers/13/draft-picks
They went ALL IN™ with honor, even though I still dislike that team strongly.

Hey y'all. All y'all who've wanted the Dubs to go "All-in," this is what most "All-in" moves end up producing.
How in the world is PG worth $212M? LOL! Good luck, Philly.
Obviously the Cippers were under no obligation to deal with us, but still I'm glad they're losing him for nothing now.
Seriously, screw those guys!
Though it is possible they saved us from a terrible mistake... but they weren't TRYING to help us!!
I'm super-annoyed Milwaukee hasn't traded Giannis to us yet. Who do they think they are?
Some of their fans are saying they were also avoiding the second apron and repeater penalties by not agreeing to sign and trade with Warriors.
> Overall, that's probably OK for them
Disagree; when Kawhi inevitably goes out, Harden can't carry the team like George was doing.
It's relative. getting under the 2nd apron is a win for them. I did say OK, not ideal
Here is the breakdown of the Paul George contract in Philadelphia:
2024/25- $49.2M
2025/26- $51.7M
2026/27- $54.1M
2027/28- $56.6M

< pucker face >
It was around 12:30am when Clippers got Kawhi and PG. It's around 12:30am when PG signed with the 76ers.
3:30am in Philly!
If Embiid can stay healthy this might finally be his year
And if George can stay healthy.
And paying Robin Batman money.
yeah that too. East certainly won't be the cakewalk of the last few years. Along with Boston, the Knicks should be really good, plus if Milwaukee manage to get any sort of wing defense they could get back into the mix.
The Cavs, Pacers, and Magic might not make the Finals but they could be improved and make the East tougher.
If the East next year is going to be as weak, relative to the West, as it was this playoffs, it seems like as good a time as any for Philly to go all-in.
So, whatever happened to the Wiggs for Jarrett Allen rumors?
I realize we've guaranteed Loon's contract, but I'm still not sure if that's just to use his contract in a trade.
This does not impact a Paul George contract. The Sixers are seemingly signing Oubre to the room MLE, which means it does not eat into their cap space. They simply have to use the cap space first and then sign Oubre afterwards. Still very capable of signing George to his max deal.

Good gawd almighty!
$53M per year!? That’s asinine 🤣
It's a boatload of dough. This is reportedly the same deal he was asking the Clippers for.
Philly is going for it. Good for them, even if it doesn't work out.
Compare that to Denver, which seems to be doing a 'death by small cuts' teardown of a really good team.
From what I've seen, Denver really doesn't earn enough in ticket revenues to continue to fund a team as good as the one that won the championship in '22-23.

Denver is over the second tax apron, aren't they? If so, unless and until they can get below it and stay there, they can only sign vet min FAs.
No, Denver is below the 2nd apron (per spotrac), but only by $15 mil.
Even if over, though, they could at least keep their own free agents with Bird rights.
KCP walked for $22 mil/yr., which seems like a reasonable number to have re-signed him to the Nuggets. But, it would have put them over the 2nd apron.
The supermax is now devastating to team building.
They also don't have a local TV contract, so there's something to that. But, the owner is Stan Kroenke, who also owns the Rams and built Sofi stadium with his own money. They could spend if they wanted to.

If a big player becomes avail via trade, wigs could def be part of it… my hope is Ingram in that case
I don't think Kerr likes Ingram's play. Plus, Wiggins is not exactly being chased by any teams. Warriors seem in an unleveraged position to do much trading. No one is hounding us for any of our players.
There would be young players and picks attached to it, wigs to make the salaries work
What makes you think that Kerr doesn’t like his play? The USA team lineups? Wigs plays much like Ingram does FWIW
Is it really too late for a heartfelt giant gathering of Dubs fans + Steph and Dray to change Klay's mind and make him realize what he's leaving? 🥺
Yeah? Well, damn. Go to the East then, dude - why would you wanna stay in the infinitely harder conference...
Until it’s over, it’s always possible cooler heads can prevail… as all the cap space gets eaten up, and the S&T opportunities turn into $17-18M offers, there’s a chance to make up and bring him back…
It's over...😬
Also, doesn't Klay genuinely love riding his boat to practice? Good luck finding that in one of these other team's arenas...
OK, so Klay is sounding out the free agent market….

If only we could rent Steph to OKC for one year to get his ring #5, tank for Cooper Flagg, then recall Steph back for ring #6
