I was curious about other mediocre/poor seasons from recent defending champions and these were the two worst records in the past 20 years:

2006-2007 Miami Heat

44-38

4th Seed

Swept in the 1st round. Wade missed 30 games, Old Shaq missed 40 games and the rest of their roster was old, injured and washed up

2011-2012 Dallas Mavericks

36-30

7th Seed

Swept in the 1st round; Everyone in their starting lineup was old, banged up and missed 20+ games

"old shaq" lol I guess he knows what it feels like to be injured/washed from personal experience.

Draymond going 3-10 while being left open all night really doesn’t get talked about enough, dude five feet in from

the three point line and AD is still sitting under the basket.

How does someone with such a high bbiq allow something that’s so detrimental to an offense without curry become a habit

Expand full comment

He had a really rough game. And he thinks he’s going to get a big contract… he’s just not himself lately… I think he may be dealing with some stuff. A month ago, Jerome was on the podium and unprompted talked about Dray fighting through a back injury, one that’s never showed up on the injury report.

Neither AD nor LeBron hurt us that much offensively, although AD did have 3 offensive boards. It seemed to me that Draymond's defense was a big part of that. But I agree with your main points.

Expand full comment

Idk how expects to get a decent contract if he has constant nagging injuries and can barely be a positive without curry on the court, idk what his on and off numbers are without curry but it seems we need him to step up more

Expand full comment

We absolutely do need him to step up... but he's one of many who aren't "stepping up" this year. Steph and Andrew aren't stepping up because they're unavailable, Dray, Klay, & Jordan aren't stepping up defensively and with consistency, JK and MM haven't stepped up their impact, DiVincenzo & JMG haven't had the impact we would have wanted either... everybody in the rotation, outside Looney, is just in a funk this year and doesn't have it. Heck, even when Steph is available, he turns into a heroball/turnover machine pumpkin with 5 minutes left in the game. We can single out Dray as much as we want, but he's one of many, imo.

And from the channel 'I am telling you so, now' here are yesterday's stats for Jayce Johnson, SCW:

32 min, 19 pts., 7/13 1/1 3p. 2/2 FT, 22 Reb. (!), 4 ast., 0 TO, +23

22 REB!! Looney like.. who is this JJ?

A snow-white seven footer to whom apparently Sensei Miyagi told 'you clean board, movement right, movement left'. The prize being a two way spot for the rest of the season.

Shout out to my daughter Heidi who called dibs on the tube and had us all watching animated film Moana. Thanks to her, I didn't have to watch the Warriors game. I mean, I'm not even mad anymore. You ever drop a fully cooked turkey, just pulled out of the oven, on the kitchen floor? That's pretty much what this season feels like. Well, we can all get upset about about a Thanksgiving dinner of cold cut ham sandwiches and Ritz crackers, or we can do what we, my friends and I, did when it happened to us. The turkey juice on the linoleum kitchen floor was real slippery. So we went with it. A ton of alcohol, eat what's left of the turkey, and we all spent the night turkey skating in the kitchen. We even dumped an extra bottle of cooking oil on the floor to ensure smooth sailing on every square inch of the kitchen floor. Sure, we may have come out of that with a few bumps and bruises, but it was a Thanksgiving to remember and a ton of fun. Look, Poole is already there, slipping and sliding all over the place. We just need Kerr and the rest of the team to get on board.

Sorry to pour salt on your wounds, but yesterday Italy bt. Ukraine 85-75, with Nico Mannion 28 pts. (career record with national team), 6 ast., 4 stl., 10/10 FT.

Damn.

Is it a good moment for a bitter 'told you so'?

Expand full comment

?Told us what? That Nico would be saving the W's season right now? Do you really believe this?

Expand full comment

The 'told you so' refers to the fitting for the NBA. If Fontecchio can play, certainly does Nico. Especially in a team where a two-way pg plays 30 min.

Expand full comment

Would he have saved the season? We'll never know. Will Jerome? Certainly not.

No use pointing the finger at any players and/or Kerr. EXPERIENCE = CONSISTENCY, for young players, even lottery picks; rare the exception. This year Kerr does not have NEXT MAN UP on the bench. NUFF SAID, except for WELCOME BACK, DUBY....

I’m just glad the Lakers have 0 chance of getting Wemby. New Orleans have rights to a 1st round pick swap with them 2023.

For Wemby if he can stay healthy long term, he will terrorize the league the same way Lebron, Giannis, or KD has been doing. I don’t know his comps but he looks like a Rudy Gobert on interior defense with KD handles n an unblockable jump shot. Looks like he can Dunk without jumping. In the Euroleague he often draws double teams. The skills are there. Maybe someone can speak on his BBIQ, and motor/conditioning.

I really hope he goes to the East. It’s already a bloodbath out here in the West.

Wiseman will neutralize him, for sure.

Totally agree with you, and, then, some. Unfortunately, in my thinking, the Wolves, Blazers, and, Thunder may be toss-ups, assuming Steph is still out. The safest time/to my thinking for Steph to be 100 percent, is Monday, Mar 20th VS Rockets, six weeks/42 days, after injury on Feb 4th. Knowing Steph, he may try to go in limited minutes, a week earlier, in the midst of stiff/playoff-contender competition. Frankly, if I were Kerr/FO, I would not risk a return prior to March 20th. I also think, either after 5 or 6 weeks out, Steph return may not make much difference to the DUBS' Playoffs aspirations, as their fate may already have been decided for this season, even if they run the table on the remaining games he plays.

Expand full comment

Medical decisions are not up to Kerr and the FO — they’re 100% on the medical/training staff (with input from Steph, of course). With no access to Steph’s medical imaging or Steph’s own words on the subject, it’s pointless for us as fans to speculate about what return date is better than any other.

Agree....I am not speculating...it is a medical staff-clearance decision, first. Regardless, as I stated, if I were Kerr or the FO, I would not let my franchise player go earlier than March 20th; too risky, as the standard of care for athletes to heal/rehab from this type of partial ligaments tear is 6 weeks, minimum. Nonetheless, let us see where we are two weeks from now in terms of our playoffs aspirations. Meantime, Steph continues his rehabilitation activity.

Expand full comment

That's going to place us out of the play-in. I'm not disagreeing with you, however Curry will probably make his appearance after the Blazers or we really will be toast. I also think Poole will bounce back. He's a bouncy kind of baby.

Do you like your toast well-done...lol...agree on Poole as the mark of young players is inconsistency, particularly in variable roles/rotations...

Yikes. r/warriors being toxic once again after a loss. This time, their anger is directed towards Lamb and Kerr for playing Lamb over Kuminga, PBJ, and Moody.

As soon as they brought back Steph Curry
